Back pain and tense muscles are prevalent health concerns that impact individuals' quality of life and productivity. The causes of these conditions are multifaceted, encompassing physical and psychological factors. From a holistic perspective, addressing the root causes of back pain and muscle tension requires a comprehensive approach considering the interplay between the body, mind, and lifestyle.
Poor posture is one of the primary contributors to back pain and muscle tension, particularly in sedentary occupations where individuals spend prolonged periods sitting in front of computers or engaging in repetitive tasks. Slumped sitting can increase the strain on the spine, leading to increased thoracic-lumbar-pelvic angulation, forward head posture, rounded shoulder position, and increased cervical erector spynae activities. These postural deviations can result in muscle imbalances, increased fatigue, and histochemical changes, ultimately causing pain and discomfort.
In addition to poor posture, individual factors such as age, gender, and body composition can also influence the development of musculoskeletal disorders. Furthermore, psychosocial factors, such as stress, anxiety, and depression, can exacerbate the perception of pain and contribute to the perpetuation of muscle tension.
Addressing these multifaceted causes requires a holistic approach that combines physical, psychological, and lifestyle interventions.
