Florentien Leurs, Chiropractor Practical tips for getting you out of pain and moving better. She saw a chiropractor with excellent results and has never looked back since.

Florentien’s first experience with chiropractic was as a teenager when she was suffering from knee pain and headaches. Originally from Belgium, she came to the UK to study chiropractic and graduated with merit from the AECC in Bournemouth in 2009 and joined the St James clinic in 2012. She is continuously expanding her treatment technique in the fields of Sacro-Occipital Technique, Applied Kinesiology, medical acupuncture, Webster technique (pregnancy care), paediatrics, craniopathy, functional medicine and nutrition. A typical treatment for an adult includes spinal adjustments, soft tissue releases, cranial work, correction of movement patterns through exercises and nutritional advice. As well as helping little ones have the best start to life, she enjoys assisting older patients with managing their aches and pains in order to live life to the fullest. Florentien also has a strong interest in treating sports injuries and helping to increase athletes’ sports performance. When Florentien is not at the clinic, she can be found reading geeky books, going for a run, doing crossfit or any outdoor activity. Family and friends are very important to her – she loves the time with her two young boys.

Sprouted seeds are an incredible source of nutrition, only take a matter of days to grow and are inexpensive too. It's such an easy hack to upgrade your health!

Humans don't have the enzymes to break down phytates, but the sprouting process (which we humans have done for thousands of years, until recently) helps the plant release minerals that otherwise can't be absorbed easily. 💪

1 cup of sprouted broccoli seeds has the same nutritional benefits as 50 cups of broccoli. Incredible, no?!

I quite enjoy the process of soaking the seeds overnight, putting them in a tray, flushing them with water a few times a day, and then 3-4 days later, voila, ready to eat 😎 ! Go on, give it a go!

After several decades of wearing pretty but narrow shoes 👠 , my feet need some TLC! I wear my toe spacers during all strength training and when I put my feet up in the evenings. I have noticed better balance during single leg exercises, squats, lunges etc. My goal is to reduce risk of bunions, improve mechanics of the whole lower limb 🦵, and also reduce the risk of spraining my ankle during running on uneven terrain. Most of the shoes I now wear have a lovely wide toe box 👌

Whether you’re trying to improve blood sugar control, because you experience sweet cravings or get jittery when you haven’t eaten for a little while, or whether you’re prediabetic or diabetic, a little apple cider vinegar goes a long way.

1-2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar, diluted in a glass of water or other beverage, taken on an empty stomach or before a meal.

Make sure your apple cider vinegar is raw and that it’s fermented or contains live mother. Start with 1/2-1tsp and build up to 2tsps as your body is getting used to it.

A similar but more expensive option, is taking a bitter melon supplement before a meal.

Having your work desk set up ergonomically is great, but movement and variety of sitting positions is even more important.

Have you ever thought about the way you breath? It really does matter! Breathing properly affects immune function, energy levels, sleep quality, aches and pains and a whole lot more.
The first step is figuring out which way you breath - through the mouth or through your nose?
If you think you're a mouth breather, we need to figure out why. Is it a blocked nose, is it "narrow sinuses", is it a stress or anxiety response or just a habit you developed? Bring it up next time you're in for some advice!
