Imbolc Blessings 🌼✨☀️💚 Let us awaken slowly & carry the light back into the world like the first snow drops.
In Yoga & Mindfulness Club this week we touched on the idea of Imbolc & noticing how the Earth energies, cycle, nature is stiring & awakening.
I asked the children of any signs they may of observed in nature & can they feel any changes within them?
Green shoots, birds song is more active, slightly lighter evenings, a couple of warmer sunnier days! A great time to plant those seeds of intention.

We used the feathers (start from@the shoulder & tucked down arm to fingers to exhale & back up to shoulder to inhale) to breathe in (inhale) new beginnings & exhale to let go. ✨

For relaxation I guided them into an earth journey using my drum & rattle. An awakening journey down into earth & witnessing the energy of coming out of hibernation mindfully, like the first snow drops carrying the light back into the world. ✨☀️

A little family update ✨

Sheldon (my hubby) has been here in the Uk now for just over 1 month. A dream we wanted to come true for the last 7 years.
We have much gratitude for this journey together & all the love, encouragement & support we’ve received.

It’s been a huge life change for us all, a shift in dynamic in our family rhythm. I’m super proud of us all. The last month has been a ride, supporting Sheldon to integrate into the uk system. It’s taken over a month & we’re nearly there. Obstacles continue to come but the greatest thing is we face them together, it’s very strengthening.

The immigration system is very complex and made hard for a reason, but we refuse to give up hope & be defeated. I wish for us the pathe the way for others who may find themselves on a similar journey.

Sheldon has a Spouse Visa, this is valid for 2.5 years & we have to reapply. It’s a huge financial strain every time you reapply. It’s easy to get caught out as no one tells you anything or they all tell you different things.
So far they increased payments then took away income, it’s been insane. Survival! It’s a very controlling & stressful system with little or no support.

Despite all the above we continue to journey through stronger ☀️

Sheldon is slowly adapting to the colder weather, quietness (compared to Jamaica’s outdoor living), faster pace & fulfilling a role of husband & father💚.

Proud of the girls for adjusting & being open to change. Zaiyah has her daddy here now & Seli her bonus parent. ❤️

Me, I’m also adapting to all sorts & holding space for everyone. Although it’s had intense moments I’m so grateful for the journey we are all in together. 🙏🏻💛

We started our New Year, Yoga & mindfulness club with a practice for focus from book ‘Shine’ by . A sequence of postures (asanas), affirmations & breath to support our focus into the New Year.

I really value positive mindset work, daily affirmations & setting determinations/goals. Setting determinations as an SGI Buddhist is a big part of my practice. Taking quiet time to feel into what I wish to create in my life & how I wish to contribute to humanity & the planet. I then build steps to these determinations, chant for them, set dates & take action steps.

In yoga afterschool club I gave the children the opportunity to feel into what are they grateful for in the year just past, how have they grown & what determinations do they have ahead of them. 🌼

We ended this session with a beautiful ‘smile meditation/visualisation’ during relaxation from the wonderful book ‘The Wonder of Stillness’ by Michelle Sorrell. 😊 A lovely guide to letting a smile expand within & expand out of you. ✨

Ps the children are all snuggled under their coats to be cosy. 💛

Back to school means back to yoga & mindfulness club! ✨

This week we will be sharing our seeds of intention for the New Year ahead and reflecting on gratitude for what has been.
✨How have we grown?
✨what have we learnt?
✨what are we grateful for?
✨what wishes do we have?

A reminder it’s still winter and we need to rest and take care of ourselves so we can flourish in the spring. 🌷🌼

Im@ currently teaching at two local schools and have space for one more class. If you feel your children’s school/community group would benefit I’d love to hear from you.

This the last photo we took together in
February this year after our last visit to see Sheldon.
It’s at Kingston Airport one of the happiest & saddest places for me. I like arrivals, not departures, I sob myself through security & luggage check, I can never pull myself together.
This is our dream come true, Sheldon will be at this same airport soon, departing saying goodbye to all his Jam Fam but on his way to us.
In less than 48hrs our generous
community/loved ones raised £350 for us to book Sheldon’s flight, 19 donors.
That’s insane!
Now 27 donations & soo close to target!
Honestly can’t really put the energy we feel into words. We’re overwhelmingly grateful. To take the time to donate & in such tricky times, it’s beautiful to witness the pulling together.
We’re so close to our target! Amazing xx

All the support feels super validating to our story which has at times felt isolating.

Community kindness & compassion is everything. 🫶🏻

Zone Pebbles of regulation ❤️💛💚💙@ yoga & mindfulness club ✨

Last week I introduced the children to my ‘pebbles of regulation’. It’s something they are familiar with in school, presented as a worksheet on the classroom . In true Forest school style (my other job I love) my wonderful colleague converted into pebbles.

With a focus last week on ‘Respect’. We discussed as a group;
what does respect mean to you?
How do you give & wish to receive respect, including self respect?
The children shared some lovely ideas ie kindness, listening, caring, good communication.

Starting with the pebbles. It’s an opportunity to discuss the range of emotions we may feel/experience as a human. Naming the emotions can be helpful for processing and supporting what we might need in different moments. All as part of a ‘wellbeing kit’.
Green Zone: 💚
Happy, ready, calm, regulated, content, energised, connection, focused, balanced nervous system.

Blue Zone:💙
Sad, poorly, tired, bored, low energy, unmotivated, heavy, not connected, shut down. Possibly nervous system ‘freeze’.

Red:❤️
Anger, out of control, rage, annoyed, triggered, scared, mad, fiery, heat. Nervous system: fight.

Yellow:💛
Restless, anticipation, frustration, fidgety, upset, agitated, anxious. Nervous system: wanting to ‘flight’.

By recognising what zone we’re in & naming it can help us ask ‘what do I need?’.
We can give the emotions colours, names, feelings, name where you may feel them in the body.

For example: feeling in the blue zone. Movement could help, natural light, better posture, fresh air, rest, nourishing food, hydration, chat to someone, cuddle with a pet, social media breaks.
This can help re balance the nervous system and guide us back into Green Zone.

Mindfulness practices like yoga, breath awareness, affirmation can really empower children/young people to self care choices.

We then shared the ‘white string of peace & respect’ which we thread in sessions & created a web sharing ‘what respect means to us.’
