Zone Pebbles of regulation ❤️💛💚💙@ yoga & mindfulness club ✨
Last week I introduced the children to my ‘pebbles of regulation’. It’s something they are familiar with in school, presented as a worksheet on the classroom . In true Forest school style (my other job I love) my wonderful colleague converted into pebbles.
With a focus last week on ‘Respect’. We discussed as a group;
what does respect mean to you?
How do you give & wish to receive respect, including self respect?
The children shared some lovely ideas ie kindness, listening, caring, good communication.
Starting with the pebbles. It’s an opportunity to discuss the range of emotions we may feel/experience as a human. Naming the emotions can be helpful for processing and supporting what we might need in different moments. All as part of a ‘wellbeing kit’.
Green Zone: 💚
Happy, ready, calm, regulated, content, energised, connection, focused, balanced nervous system.
Blue Zone:💙
Sad, poorly, tired, bored, low energy, unmotivated, heavy, not connected, shut down. Possibly nervous system ‘freeze’.
Red:❤️
Anger, out of control, rage, annoyed, triggered, scared, mad, fiery, heat. Nervous system: fight.
Yellow:💛
Restless, anticipation, frustration, fidgety, upset, agitated, anxious. Nervous system: wanting to ‘flight’.
By recognising what zone we’re in & naming it can help us ask ‘what do I need?’.
We can give the emotions colours, names, feelings, name where you may feel them in the body.
For example: feeling in the blue zone. Movement could help, natural light, better posture, fresh air, rest, nourishing food, hydration, chat to someone, cuddle with a pet, social media breaks.
This can help re balance the nervous system and guide us back into Green Zone.
Mindfulness practices like yoga, breath awareness, affirmation can really empower children/young people to self care choices.
We then shared the ‘white string of peace & respect’ which we thread in sessions & created a web sharing ‘what respect means to us.’
