I have had a lovely weekend catching up with friends and having a little down time which has left me feeling rested and refreshed! I hope that you have all had some time to relax this weekend too!

In yoga this week we are continuing with our exploration of yoga postures (Asana), concentrating more on the physical aspects of a yoga practice. Building on last week when we focussed upon the open hip standing postures, such as Warrior 2 (Virabhadrasana II), this week we will be focussing upon our closed hip postures, such as Warrior 1 (Virabhadrasana I). These are postures where our hips and pelvis continue to face the top of the mat, rather than externally rotating through the back leg to face the side of the mat.

We will be using these postures to build strength and stability in the hips and knees, as well as exploring balance. We will focus again upon making the postures work for us and our individual bodies, while drawing our attention to effective muscular engagement, mindfully using our muscle strength to support us in postures.

I would love for you to join me as we go back to basics and mindfully explore our yoga practice!

Please note that my Wednesday in person class at St James Road is currently very busy, which is lovely but means that I am currently running a waiting list for any new students. If you would like to try a free first class please get in touch so that I can add you to my waiting list. I really look forward to welcoming new students into class when a space becomes available.

If you are a current or regular student and are having trouble booking a spot in class please do get in touch and let me know!

I hope that everyone has had a great weekend and enjoyed being back on the mat together last week. We have had quite a relaxed weekend catching up with family and friends and starting to make some plans and set goals for the year ahead.

This week in class, we will be going back to basics and exploring alignment, engagement, and connection within our poses. These three layers weave through almost everything we do in our practice.

Alignment isn’t just about stacking joints or perfect shapes; it’s about finding the place where your body feels clear and supported and makes the pose yours. Engagement helps us stay present and mindfully connected to our strength, using our muscles to support us. This sense of connection to our boy’s in the thread that ties it all together - it is the awareness that links breath, body, and mind.

We’ll explore these ideas through familiar poses and movement patterns, such as Surya Namaskar A and warrior poses. Moving through what’s known gives us space to refine the details: to feel how subtle shifts in alignment change the quality of engagement, and how mindful awareness transforms repetition into connection.

You will be invited to explore these ideas as you move through your week; how do you align with what matters most? What does engaged presence feel like in daily life? Where do you feel connection?

I would love for you to join me!

Happy New Year to everyone! It feels such a long time since we were last on the mat together. I hope that you have all had a lovely, relaxing few weeks.

As we move further into January and into 2026, this transition can sometimes be a time to reflect upon the year just gone, as well as the year ahead. It can be a time to re-focus and set intentions after the busy festive period.

These intentions don’t need to be profound, one of my aims for 2026 is to read more outside of holidays; the new year can traditionally be a symbolic time to bring our focus towards the things which are valuable and important to us and re-evaluate.

In yoga this week we will be taking a class to look ahead. You may like to set an intention for the class, for the month or for the year or just use it as a time to refocus upon what is important and valuable to you. We will be taking poses which create and feeling of openness in our chest and shoulders as well as strength and stability within our back body and core. We will leave class ready for the week, and year, ahead.
I would love for you to join me!

Please note that my St James Road class on a Wednesday is currently full, but you can still access the class via the livestream or by coming along to October Books on a Thursday morning.

I can’t believe that we are here again at the last class of the year - it feels like it has gone so quickly! Thank you so much to everyone who has joined me for Yoga in 2025, it has been an absolute pleasure to share time on the mat with you!

In yoga this week we will be starting to wind down, slow down and ease into the festive break. The class will include a bit if everything. We will start with some familiar movement sequences to warm up our bodies before we slow down and ease into some poses for deep rest and relaxation.

If you would like to, you are invited to bring pillows and blankets to class to make the relaxing poses and Savasana feel a little more luxurious.

You will leave class feel rested, reset and ready for the busy festive period!

I would love for you to join me!

Things are starting to feel a bit more festive in our house! We have put the tree up, some decorations out and we spent a wet Sunday at Glow Marwell enjoying the animals, lights and meeting Santa.

This time of year can feel exhausting. There is always so much to do; presents to buy, food to stock up with, the rush to get things done before the end of the year, Christmas parties to attend. For me the list can feel a bit endless and drains my energy levels, making it tricky to stay on top if it all.

And so in yoga this week we will be taking a class to inject a bit of last minute December energy for a mid month pick me up. We will take some sun salutations and poses with lots of twists to build a feeling of power and vibrancy. We will combine this with energising breath work and a restorative Savasana to get us ready for the last push before Christmas.

Don’t forget, there is only one in-person class this week as our October Books class will not be running on the 11th December.

I would love for you to join me!

This weekend has been a busy family focussed few days as the girls had an inset day on Friday! It has also been a weekend of getting ready for Christmas and facing the craziness of Christmas shopping.

At this time of year I always find myself drawn into the panic of making sure that all of the gifts are bought. And as you walk around the shops or shop online, or check your email, you are inundated with special offers and pressure to buy, buy buy. From toys and clothes to food and drink, it is a time of excess and pressure to lean in to this excess.

In yoga this week, we will be reflecting upon this concept by taking an Aparigraha focussed flow. Aparigraha is one of the Yamas, the fundamental principles which underpin a yoga practice, and is the ethical principle of non-hoarding. I always think that this is a really important theme to focus on as the Christmas pressure ramps up.

We may consider the idea of non-attachment to material goods, the need to have and buy more and more. Or we may think about letting go of expectations and pressure in life, as well as on the mat. Aparigraha teaches us to be mindful and present and to feel gratitude for what we have, bringing us a sense of peace and contentment, rather than grasping for more.

On the mat we will be exploring this concept through heart opening poses which create space in our front body and strength in our back body. We will explore mobility within our shoulders and hips, as well as engagement within our core. You will be encouraged to focus on the present moment and let go of the desire to take your body in to a particular pose or balance, as well as letting go through your breath.

I would love for you to join me!

What a cold and wet start to the weekend! We have done a lot of hiding inside from the rain and enjoyed spending time with friends and family.

In yoga this week we will be exploring the theme of finding strength in stillness. Often in life we think of building strength as something we do through action, challenging ourselves physically by doing something forceful. However, sometimes strength can be found in the quiet moments, in the stillness, the steadiness and persistence.

We will be taking poses with longer holds that allow us to anchor and to be present. Some of these poses might be challenging, allowing us to build that mental strength and resilience through our focus and presence. Through quietness, we are able to turn inwards and gather our inner strength.

You will leave class feeling a sense of quiet strength, both physically and mentally, as well as more focussed and ready to take these lessons off the mat and into your week. Through quiet moments of stillness we can learn to ground ourselves to maintain a sense of balance and perspective.

I would love for you to join me!

17/11/2025

It has been another family focussed weekend for us, which included spending time outdoors and today I really noticed a change in the temperature outside after a very mild November so far.

And so in class this week we will be warming up with a fiery core focussed flow to build a little heat and leaning in to the Yoga principle of Tapas. Tapas is the third of the Niyamas and teaches us the importance of discipline, courage and focus on and off the mat.

Tapas can be about discipline and challenge in our physical posture, but it can also be about creating discipline and commitment to other aspects of a yoga practice, such as returning to the breath on and off the mat or developing a consistent meditation practice.

As we move into the busy festive period, a little discipline can be quite helpful to allow us to balance all of the demands upon us while also ensuring that we continue to make time for ourselves.

This class will contain poses which focus upon building strength within our front and back body, as well as creating energy within our breath and focus and challenge within our mind. You will leave class feeling energised and ready for the weeks ahead.

I would love for you to join me!

10/11/2025

It has been a lovely weekend for us, spending time with family and time outdoors - even if we did get very wet watching Fireworks on Friday night!

This week I feel inspired to explore a yoga flow with simple, familiar movements and poses, with some repetitions to allow ourselves to feel familiar with our flow.

When we create a feeling of familiarity in our movement, it allows us to settle into our practice without wondering what is coming next. This creates a more relaxed and meditative feel to our practice and may allow you to focus your attention more on your breath, physical alignment or upon quietening the mind.

This will be an all round yoga flow, including poses to strengthen and mobilise our body, as well as elements of balance and breath work and you will be invited to move in a way that feels right for you and your body.

I look forward to sharing this class with you and I would love for you to join me!
