I hope that you have had a lovely weekend and enjoyed some warm Spring sunshine on Saturday! We have enjoyed a weekend relaxing at home and even spent some time in the garden - hooray!

In Yoga this week we will continue with our theme of welcoming Spring with a heart opening flow which embodies the idea of welcoming the new, as well as building on our core focussed work from last week.

This class will be a gentle invitation to create space in the chest, release tension in the shoulders, and reconnect with the breath. In yoga, the heart space can be associated with openness, compassion, celebration and emotional balance.

In day to day life we often spend long hours sitting, working at computers, staring at phones or holding emotions within our bodies which can result in the shoulders rounding forward and the chest feeling closed. Our practice this week will focus on reversing that pattern through mindful movement and breath.

Together we’ll move through poses such as Cobra, Bridge, and gentle backbends, gradually awakening the muscles of the back body while allowing the front body to soften and expand. These shapes encourage the chest to lift, the breath to deepen, and the heart space to feel a little lighter as we lift our gaze and our heart to meet the Spring sunshine.

I would love for you to join me!

We have had a pretty quiet weekend getting jobs done and spending time with friends! Our Spring sunshine seems to have got lost again but it’s only a matter of time before it finds its way back.

To encourage the sun’s return, in yoga this week we will be taking a class that is all about the core and building a feeling of warmth and heat. And when we speak about ‘the core’ we are not just taking about the abs, but about an integrated system which involves multiple muscle groups, including the deep stabilising muscles that support the spine, improve posture, and help us move with strength and control, but also our gluts, pelvic floor and our breath. Everything which brings stability to our bodies.

We’ll begin with a gentle warm-up to wake up the breath and connect to the centre of the body. From there, we’ll build heat through sun salutations and move into a flowing sequence designed to activate all of the components of core strength. Expect a mix of slow, controlled movements and a few holds to build stability and awareness.

Throughout the practice we’ll explore how the core supports everything we do on the mat; from balancing poses to transitions between postures. A strong, responsive core can help protect the lower back, improve balance, and make the whole body feel more integrated and connected.

We will end with a gentle relaxation to release any tension and allow the body to rest.

I would love for you to join me!

I hope that you have all had a lovely weekend. I have had a relaxing time and spent some wonderful time with friends and family.

Did anyone have a chance to look up at the sky this weekend and notice that we are almost at the March full moon? A little tricky in cloudy skies! This will occur on the 3rd of March and is the last full moon of winter and the first full moon of Spring and it has inspired me to take a full moon themed flow in class this week.

March’s Full Moon is known as the Worm Moon. This is because it occurs at the time of year that the ground thaws, and the worms reappear in the earth at the start of Spring. This continues the theme of transition and change that we explored last week; recognising the stirring of new life under the surface of the earth.

This class will include the moon salute; Chandra Namaskar, which represents each phase of the moon and focuses upon hip opening poses and side body mobility, while we continue to think of the theme of Spring and what the new energy and life that Spring brings means for us as we move forwards into March.

I would love for you to join me!

I hope that you have all had a lovely week! Mine has been quite busy with a few days of work alongside enjoying time with the kids.

And in between dodging the rain we have glimpsed some clues that Spring is on the way; lighter mornings, longer days and even a couple of rare sightings of the sun!

And as we end February and move into March and the promise of a new season and warmer, lighter days, we are going to take a class in yoga this week which focuses on letting go of the old and stale and welcoming the new and fresh.

Our practice will move between quieter, mindful moments and more energetic flows with twists to release and energise. We will use breath work to reflect our theme and take moments to reflect upon what the idea of release and renew means to us.

I would love for you to join me!

09/02/2026

After a busy couple of weeks, this weekend has been an opportunity to slow down and be bit lazy! And with more wet weather to enjoy it felt even easier to hide inside!

As we come to our final week of exploring our back to basics theme, we will be slowing down, drawing our attention inward and practising quietening the mind. It is normal for our brains to be busy - they love to find something to do and as soon as we try to quieten our mind, this is often when our busy monkey brain likes to get started, trying to distract you from peace. Quietening that noise and distraction is a skill to be practised and that is what we will be focussing on this week,

When we are practising yoga, it’s easy to get caught up in perfecting the postures — the alignment, the balance, the stretch. But at its heart, yoga has always been a practice of presence and this week we shall explore this through mindful movement and breath.

Mindfulness invites us to notice what’s happening — in the body, in the breath, and in the mind — without judgment. It’s about being fully where you are, whether you’re flowing through sun salutations or sitting quietly in stillness.

Meditation, meanwhile, is the stillness at the centre of that awareness. It helps to calm the fluctuations of the mind and reconnects us with a sense of inner steadiness.

In our practice this week, we will slow down. We will notice the breath in postures and between transitions. We will observe the sensations in our body as we move and we will encourage ourselves to stay present on the mat. And we will do all of this without judgement through repetitive movements and opportunities for stillness.

I would love for you to join me!

We have finally made it out of January and into February and I have already started to notice that the days are starting to slightly lengthen as we move towards a very welcome Spring!

Until our half term break, we will be continuing our theme of going back to basics. After focussing on the physical aspects of yoga for the last 2 weeks, this week we will be taking our attention to another component of yoga practice, connecting to our breath.

As those of you who have been practising with me for a while will know, every one of my classes involves moment of breath connection. This routed in both my natural bias due to my job, but also in the knowledge of the importance of optimal breathing to our overall health and wellbeing. Alongside good quality sleep, breathing well is one of the most important things that we can do for our overall physical and mental health.

In class this week we will be drawing our attention to our breathing pattern, exploring how breath can impact upon how we feel by practising a variety of Pranayamas and using movements and postures that allow us to find space and comfort within our breath.

This is my favourite kind of class to teach and I would love to share it with you!

For any students who have already had their free first class with me, there are spaces available for you. I look forward to welcoming new students to join us once space becomes available :-) Please drop me an email with any booking queries!

I have had a lovely weekend catching up with friends and having a little down time which has left me feeling rested and refreshed! I hope that you have all had some time to relax this weekend too!

In yoga this week we are continuing with our exploration of yoga postures (Asana), concentrating more on the physical aspects of a yoga practice. Building on last week when we focussed upon the open hip standing postures, such as Warrior 2 (Virabhadrasana II), this week we will be focussing upon our closed hip postures, such as Warrior 1 (Virabhadrasana I). These are postures where our hips and pelvis continue to face the top of the mat, rather than externally rotating through the back leg to face the side of the mat.

We will be using these postures to build strength and stability in the hips and knees, as well as exploring balance. We will focus again upon making the postures work for us and our individual bodies, while drawing our attention to effective muscular engagement, mindfully using our muscle strength to support us in postures.

I would love for you to join me as we go back to basics and mindfully explore our yoga practice!

Please note that my Wednesday in person class at St James Road is currently very busy, which is lovely but means that I am currently running a waiting list for any new students. If you would like to try a free first class please get in touch so that I can add you to my waiting list. I really look forward to welcoming new students into class when a space becomes available.

If you are a current or regular student and are having trouble booking a spot in class please do get in touch and let me know!

I hope that everyone has had a great weekend and enjoyed being back on the mat together last week. We have had quite a relaxed weekend catching up with family and friends and starting to make some plans and set goals for the year ahead.

This week in class, we will be going back to basics and exploring alignment, engagement, and connection within our poses. These three layers weave through almost everything we do in our practice.

Alignment isn’t just about stacking joints or perfect shapes; it’s about finding the place where your body feels clear and supported and makes the pose yours. Engagement helps us stay present and mindfully connected to our strength, using our muscles to support us. This sense of connection to our boy’s in the thread that ties it all together - it is the awareness that links breath, body, and mind.

We’ll explore these ideas through familiar poses and movement patterns, such as Surya Namaskar A and warrior poses. Moving through what’s known gives us space to refine the details: to feel how subtle shifts in alignment change the quality of engagement, and how mindful awareness transforms repetition into connection.

You will be invited to explore these ideas as you move through your week; how do you align with what matters most? What does engaged presence feel like in daily life? Where do you feel connection?

I would love for you to join me!

Happy New Year to everyone! It feels such a long time since we were last on the mat together. I hope that you have all had a lovely, relaxing few weeks.

As we move further into January and into 2026, this transition can sometimes be a time to reflect upon the year just gone, as well as the year ahead. It can be a time to re-focus and set intentions after the busy festive period.

These intentions don’t need to be profound, one of my aims for 2026 is to read more outside of holidays; the new year can traditionally be a symbolic time to bring our focus towards the things which are valuable and important to us and re-evaluate.

In yoga this week we will be taking a class to look ahead. You may like to set an intention for the class, for the month or for the year or just use it as a time to refocus upon what is important and valuable to you. We will be taking poses which create and feeling of openness in our chest and shoulders as well as strength and stability within our back body and core. We will leave class ready for the week, and year, ahead.
I would love for you to join me!

Please note that my St James Road class on a Wednesday is currently full, but you can still access the class via the livestream or by coming along to October Books on a Thursday morning.
