It has been such a busy weekend for us celebrating my eldest daughter’s birthday (hence the delay to my weekly email)! Doing all of this in the heat has left me needing to recharge and refresh.

For me, recharging sometimes looks like true rest and relaxation. But at other times it looks like energising myself through movement and connection to my breath. And after a few weeks of slowing things down for the heat, it is time for us to enjoy our last class before the summer break together with some more energetic movement!

And so we will be enjoying an all round yoga flow together, with sun salutations, standing flows and some good old balance work which will build strength and mobility, as well as focus, breath connection and moments of rest and pause.

I would love you to join me for our last class for July. We will be back again in August!

Hooray the plants have had a reprieve from the heat and so have we! I hope that everyone has had a chance to feel a little cooler this weekend and that you haven’t be too soaked in the downpours! We certainly appreciated the cooler weather for our weekend away in London.

Although we have had a couple of days of cooler weather, it looks set to be a scorcher again as the week goes on and so in Yoga this week, we will be continuing to take classes which allow us to be slow and mindful and manage our energy as the temperatures rise.

This week’s class will allow us to take some time to explore the theme of creating a sense of space, flexibility and mobility within our body, mind and breath. We will be working through poses to find space and mobility within our muscles in the front and back of our body, exploring how to ‘stretch well’, tuning in and listening to our bodies as we do so. We will be taking longer holds to pause, rest and slow down in order to remain cool.

We will explore the theme of finding mobility within our body and muscles, as well as within our thoughts and actions; allowing ourselves to let go of stuck thought patterns and behaviours which no longer serve as. Change within body and mind takes time and is a journey which can begin on the yoga mat and spread into our lives.

I would love for you to join me!

It’s been another hot weekend and we have been trying to get some jobs done around the house and garden, which is easier said than done in the heat! And I don’t know about you, but trying to get a good night’s sleep when it’s hot and humid can also be a real challenge.

One of the key tools that we always have at our disposal to help us to settle and pause in the heat is our breath. It is also a great tool to help us to settle our body and mind when sleep feels elusive. and so in yoga this week we will be taking a class which focuses upon our breath.

Breath connection and combining breath and movement is a key part of yoga practice. but what does breathing well look and feel like? When we are busy, we can sometimes forget all about our breath and taking a moment to connect and notice can sometimes make all the difference to how we feel in our body and mind.

Breathing well has so many positive benefits including (but not limited to); reducing anxiety and stress, improving sleep, reducing pain and headaches, improving the function of our pelvic floor, reducing blood pressure, reducing feelings of breathlessness and improving athletic performance.

Why not come and take an hour to pause, cool down and connect with your breath and leave class feeling more connected with your body and calmer in your mind?

I would love for you to join me!

What a scorcher it has been this week! I hope that you made time for yourself to pause and embrace some rest in the heat! We had a lovely afternoon and evening at the beach on Saturday; so many jobs to be doing at home but it was so important to give permission to relax.

In class this week we will be focussing on the theme of…well focus! One of the fundamental principles of a Yoga practice is the control of your focus; bringing yourself away from external stimuli and allowing yourself the time and space to concentrate mindfully on your yoga practice on the mat.

In today’s modern world there are so many constant distractions which can tempt us away from our focus - whether it’s an alert on your phone, a delivery at the door or an email pinging up on the screen while we are focussing on a project at work. It is so tempting to become caught up or hooked by these distractions and Yoga is a fantastic tool to help us to practice maintaining focus.

One of the forms of focus within a Yoga practice is Drishti, or our gaze point. This is the point of focus for our gaze when we are moving through each posture, or asana. In Vinyasa Yoga there are specific gaze points, or Drishti, associated with the different postures and this week in Yoga we will be exploring these. By doing so, we will practice focussing and quietening the mind on the mat, and perhaps these lessons can journey with us off the mat and into our lives, bringing a greater sense of productivity and value to our tasks.

I would love for you to join me!

Wow summer is back again! I hope that you have had a wonderful weekend enjoying some of the sunshine! We are still working on things inside the house which meant that we spent Sunday indoors; but I did treat myself to some time in the sun to write this email.

What’s a bit crazy is that next Saturday 21st June is the Summer Solstice; that mid point in the summer when the days are at their longest and the nights are at their shortest. Summer is often a time of doing more, which can be pretty energy draining when the weather is hot.

And so in this week’s class we will be honouring the summer Solstice with a class to slow down. We will be celebrating the sun with some sun salutations before we slow down into some longer holds to give ourselves space to rest and cool down! You will leave class feeling calm and settled and ready to take on anything in your week ahead!

I would love for you to join me!

Please note that due to sports day this Thursday there will be no class at October Books. I will be in touch with any students with bookings to arrange for your booking to be moved. Huge apologies as I hate to cancel any class!

After a busy half term, this weekend has been a little bit more about slowing down and doing a little less. This has given me space to be productive, as well as spending quality time with friends.

In last week’s class we explored the importance of rest alongside activity, the importance the pause, alongside productivity. And in this week’s class we will be continuing this theme and thinking about the Gunas. The Gunas are part of Ayurvedic thinking and represent the matter or qualities which make up the world. These are darkness and stagnation (Tamas), action and movement (Rajas) and the state of harmony and balance (Sattva).

To explore this theme, we will be working with the idea of balance, both physically and emotionally. We will be working through balance postures, focussing on the balance of muscular activity (Rajas) and stillness (Tamas) required to achieve them, as well as the thought and quietness in our minds while we undertake a balance posture.

It will be a fun class where you can practice some balance challenges and think about how we bring the concept of balance and harmony (Sattva) off the mat and into our lives!

I would love for you to join me!

It has been a very busy week for us this half term; spending some wonderful time with friends and family, getting stuck into some DIY projects and celebrating some Birthdays! I am ready for another week off now!

However, far from it feeling like time to take a pause, at this time of year it always feels as though things are ramping up as we head into the high energy and activity period that summer brings us. To meet this energy will will be taking a class which balances movement and activity with pause and rest to create that essential balance that is needed for our body and mind; balancing effort and ease.

We will be taking a ladder flow, building a familiar sequence through the class to allow us to move fluidly, mindfully and with purpose. To balance these periods of activity, we will also settle into generous pauses in restful postures. On the mat, as in life, it is important to find balance for our energy levels and this will be our focus this week.

You will leave class feeling both energised and recharged and ready to tackle these busy summer months ahead!

i am really looking forward to getting back on the mat and sharing classes with you this week and I would love for you to join me!

19/05/2025

We are rearranging bedrooms for the girls at the moment which is a logistical juggle. And this weekend saw me manoeuvring a whole lot of furniture around - including manhandling a giant wardrobe up the stairs.

Now I’m not claiming to have a huge amount of upper body strength and I was very much support crew (in reality) but the importance of having a sense of stability around my shoulders and ability to understand how to optimise my core strength was essential for this to prevent a very easy injury!

And so in yoga this week we are going to be exploring the idea of creating mobility and connecting with strength and stability within our shoulders. Having had a special request for Crow pose (Kakasana) this week from one of my students, this feels like the perfect peak pose to explore this concept and to connect with our bodies.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t take off in Crow, the benefit is in the journey, whether this is better understanding how to connect with your shoulders, shoulder blades and core, or developing the courage to explore transferring weight into your hands.

It will be a fun, playful class and we’ll throw in a few more bird related poses to leave you feeling stronger, steadier and better connected with your body, mind and breath.

I would love for you to join me!

What a beautiful weekend it has been! I have loved having the time to be in the garden enjoying the late Spring flowers and trying to keep the weeds under control!!

In yoga this week, we will be taking a Flower Moon inspired flow, to reflect the May full moon which will be in our skies on Monday and Tuesday night. May’s moon is called the Flower Moon because May is the month of the year when the Spring flowers are in full bloom, with beauty all around us! May’s full moon will be a micro moon, as the moon is currently at it’s furthest point from Earth and will appear at its smallest in the sky.

We will be taking a full moon inspired flow, which will include Chandra Namaskar, the Moon Salute. We will also be working with the idea of abundance and plenty, as reflected in the natural world at this time of year but working through poses which allow us to take up space.

Our movements will be gentle and mindful and the energy of spaciousness will be balanced with opportunities to be quiet and peaceful. We will leave class, with a sense of space within our body and quietness within our minds.
I would love for you to join me!

I hope that everyone has had a lovely Bank Holiday weekend! Ours has been really busy, hence the slightly delayed weekly update! We had a fab street party on Saturday and it was wonderful to connect with our community and to share and enjoy delicious food together!

It was a real weekend of two halves - from the fiery heat at the start of the weekend to the cool weather and rain at the end; what a difference a week makes! And the cooler weather means that I don’t feel quite so mean to share a fiery core focussed class this week!

This week, we will be taking a flow which focusses upon our core line to create a feeling of engagement, strength and stability. We will be focussing on the front and back of our body, as well as our gluts and the powerhouse muscles of our legs. We will also be exploring how to optimally balance our breath with muscular engagement and movement.

Core focussed classes can be challenging and so we will be tapping into a little Tapas, which relates to the concept of self-discipline and courage, as we move through class. I will invite you to consider how we might take what we learn, or reflect upon, in class off the mat and into our week.

I would love for you to join me!
