We hear this a lot.

When your baby gets frustrated, wriggles away or cries during tummy time, it can leave you wondering if something’s wrong, or if you’re doing it right.

But here’s what we want you to know — sometimes the tension in your baby’s body is making it harder than it needs to be.

We’ve supported babies with tight necks, flat spots, arching backs and more — and gentle osteopathy has helped them feel more settled, freer in their movement, and more comfortable on their tummy.

If you’re feeling unsure, let’s chat.

You don’t need to figure this out alone.

Just come back from holiday? Keep reading.

Holidays are a great time to relax, reset and enjoy some sunshine,
but the travel, carrying bags, different beds and routines can take their toll on your body.

We recently saw a patient who had just returned from her break.
She came in with an aching neck, shoulder tension and a headache that just wouldn’t shift.

It had been creeping up for days and she felt drained.
After one osteopathy session, things began to ease.
Two days later, she felt like herself again.

If you’ve come back from your summer break feeling stiff, tight or sore, you’re not alone.

Long drives, flights and hotel pillows can really affect how your body feels.

If you’re one of our existing patients and know travel can leave you feeling off,
you might find it helpful to book your appointment for just before you go, or for when you’re back.

And if you're new here, we’d be happy to support you too.

It’s hot and getting hotter.

Don’t forget your water 💦 when you’re running and jumping around!

“She’s turning her head so much more now…”

This parent came to Align because their little one had a noticeably flat head and was struggling with tummy time.

They’d heard about osteopathy at their baby sensory group, and after just two sessions, their daughter was moving more freely, lifting her arms with more strength and comfort, and showing real progress during tummy time.

It’s not about forcing change, it’s about working with what your baby’s body already knows how to do — helping them move, settle and grow with more ease.

Never been to an osteopath before? You’re in good hands. We’ll explain everything as we go.

Nighttime pumping when you're separated from your baby? Let’s talk about why it matters.

If you’re expressing milk in the early days after birth, especially if your baby is in the NICU or unable to feed directly, nighttime pumping can feel exhausting.

But here’s the truth many new mothers haven’t been told:

Milk supply is built in the early days, and night feeds or pumps are part of that foundation.

Why? Because prolactin, the hormone that drives milk production, is highest at night.

That means when you stimulate your breasts between 1am and 5am, you're helping to establish a fuller milk supply, and that can make a difference weeks later.

Of course, rest matters too. And no one can do everything. But understanding this window helps you make the choice that’s right for you and your baby.

Gayle, our infant feeding counsellor, is here to help you work out a plan that feels realistic and supportive for your situation.

A powerful benefit of skin-to-skin contact you might not know…

It’s not just about bonding,
Not just about warmth,
And not only about breastfeeding.

Skin-to-skin contact helps wire your baby’s stress response system.

Dr. Nils Bergman calls this buffering.
The oxytocin and dopamine released during skin-to-skin reduce cortisol levels in your newborn.

This isn’t just short-term soothing. It supports emotional regulation and resilience for life.

Protecting this early contact at birth and in the weeks that follow isn’t always easy,
but it matters.

If you want to learn more about how skin-to-skin supports newborn development and what’s possible even after a challenging birth, get in touch. We’re here to talk.

You’ve had your baby… but no one really told you what happens after.

What happens to your pelvis?
Your bladder?
Your cervix, pelvic floor and everything else that was carrying and birthing a baby?

These structures stretch, shift, compress and bear load in ways they never have before. And while your body is incredibly smart, recovery doesn’t always just “click back” on its own.

At Align, our Mummy MOT postnatal checks give you a safe, thorough space to understand how your body is recovering.

We take time to assess how your:

✔️ pelvis is aligning
✔️ bladder and pelvic floor are functioning
✔️ abdominal wall is healing
✔️ whole body is adapting to motherhood

And we gently guide you toward rehab that fits your life and stage, whether you're six weeks postpartum or six years.

No pressure. No judgement. Just the support you deserve.

If your body doesn’t feel quite right after birth, even if it’s been a while, it’s not too late. Send us a message or book in for a check.

Nitric oxide: the gas you’ve probably never heard of, but your body needs every day.

It’s involved in circulation, breathing, blood pressure, immune response, and even sleep — and your body makes it naturally.

But here’s the thing... modern life gets in the way. Mouth breathing, low movement, poor diet, stress, all of it can shut down nitric oxide production and affect how your whole system functions.

The good news? Small shifts help. Here are 5 simple ways to support your body’s nitric oxide production:

💙Breathe through your nose – It’s not just about oxygen. Nasal breathing stimulates nitric oxide production, which helps get that oxygen where it needs to go.

💙Hum – Yes, really. Humming can increase nitric oxide levels in your nasal passages up to 15x. It’s also calming for your nervous system.

💙Get sunlight – Just 20–30 mins of sunlight or red light exposure can boost nitric oxide, support circulation, and lower blood pressure.

💙Move gently and often – Movement stimulates your blood vessels to produce more nitric oxide. Think walks, resistance bands, or light cardio.

💙Eat leafy greens and beets – These are high in natural nitrates, which your body uses to make nitric oxide. But gut and oral health matters too.

At Align, this is why we care about how you breathe, move, and recover — not just where you feel pain.

Osteopathy supports your body's natural ability to regulate itself. Whether it's helping you return to calm breathing, improving rib or diaphragm mobility, or supporting your vascular and lymphatic systems — your body is designed to work with itself. Sometimes it just needs a little help.

Curious about how osteopathy could help? We’re always happy to chat.

Craving sugar or carbs before your migraine hits? It might not be a coincidence.

Many women tell us they crave chocolate, Coke, or comfort foods right before a migraine sets in — then assume the food triggered the migraine.

But here’s the twist: it might have been a warning sign, not the cause.

The prodrome phase (aka the lead-up to a migraine) can include increased hunger, fatigue, cravings, mood shifts, and even food fixations — especially for sugar or carbs.

Why? Your brain may be trying to self-soothe or stabilise itself long before the pain begins.

But there’s a catch.

Some of those sugary “quick fixes” can lead to a spike, then a blood sugar crash — and that crash can become a trigger all on its own.

So what can you do instead?

🟡 Eat small, consistent meals throughout the day — don’t wait until you’re ravenous.
🟡 Balance your plate — include protein, fat, and slow-release carbs together.
🟡 Don’t skip meals — especially breakfast.
🟡 Be kind to yourself. Cravings don’t mean failure — they’re feedback from your body.

You don’t need to eliminate sugar completely. But if you’re regularly navigating migraines and feel stuck in a cycle, this could be a place to start making gentle shifts.

If sugar is a key part of your migraine pattern, it’s something we can talk through together in a consultation — calmly, clearly, and without judgement.

Migraine care is never just about pain. It’s about what leads up to it, too.

We talk a lot about hormones — but we need to talk more about what makes symptoms harder.

Because for many women, it isn’t “just” perimenopause.

It’s the stress of caring for others while holding your own life together.

It’s grief or trauma your body still carries.

It’s exhaustion that no supplement seems to fix.

Recent studies show that menopause symptoms are often worse in women who are also managing intense caregiving, financial hardship, or long-term stress. These are not just emotional experiences. They leave biological markers. Inflammation. Sleep disruption. Hormonal imbalance.

At Align, we hold space for the whole story, not just the symptoms.

If you're in this season and it’s feeling heavy, you’re not doing it wrong. And you don’t have to “push through”.

Sarah Thomas, our Menopause Expert, offers a holistic approach to perimenopause and menopause. She works with the body’s whole system — nervous, hormonal, emotional, to help you feel grounded, supported, and informed.

Because understanding what your body is going through is a powerful first step in changing how you experience it.

📍 Sarah is in clinic on Mondays. If you'd like to book a session or have questions, we’re here.

What’s in your milk? Let’s talk about vitamins.

You might already know that breastmilk adapts to meet your baby’s needs, but have you ever wondered how it supports their early development so powerfully?

Here’s a little behind-the-scenes science on the fat-soluble vitamins found in breastmilk — vitamins A, D, E and K — and why they matter:

💙Vitamin A: Supports eye health, the immune system and healthy skin. Colostrum, that early golden milk, is especially rich in this one.

💙Vitamin D: Essential for bone health and preventing rickets. While breastmilk contains small amounts, health guidelines recommend supplements — either for baby or through increased maternal intake.

💙Vitamin E: An antioxidant that helps protect cells from damage and supports red blood cell health, especially important for preterm babies.

💙Vitamin K: Crucial for blood clotting. Newborns are routinely given a vitamin K injection after birth to prevent complications, since breastmilk doesn’t provide enough on its own.

The takeaway? Breastmilk is designed to deliver these vitamins in a highly absorbable form, offering powerful protection in the early days of life.

And while not every family breastfeeds, understanding how human milk works helps us support every feeding journey with accurate, evidence-informed care — free from pressure, full of compassion.

If you’ve got questions about feeding, supplements, or how to support your baby’s development — we’re here to help.
