Southampton Public Health Nursing Service

Southampton Public Health Nursing Service The Public Health Nursing Service for Southampton This page is for the Public Health Nursing Service, formally known as the School Nursing service.

The service provides health and well-being support for children and young people ages 5 to 19 years old. This can be through direct work with the child or young person as well as supporting the wider family. The service has Public Health Nurses who have an additional qualification and are the lead for a team covering different clusters of the city. Within the teams there is a mix of school health

nurses, who are trained nurses, and school nurse assistants. The first contact you will have with the service is when your child first starts school in Reception where a entrant health check is offered for your child, which is a height, weight, vision and hearing check. If there are any problems we will let you know and can refer onto other health services if needed. Through out the time the child or young person is at school or college they can have access to the service. In secondary school and colleges young people can self refer themselves into the service. In secondary schools and colleges we have emotional health and well-being workers that support young people with emotional needs. If you are a parent and want support for your child please contact us. Do you feel we could improve things or are you unhappy with the service? Please tell us so we can try to make things right. Call, email or message us.
