Thursday afternoon we hosted our Dementia Café at Wilton Manor. Residents gathered around to enjoy a good cup of tea while playing games 🧩🎲 It was nice to see everyone relaxed, chatting, and having fun together. Our Mediterranean Cruise has also set sail. Flags and displays are up, and our residents are ready for a month of activities, good food and adventures as we visit each country along the way!

To make sure everyone could join in, our wonderful Chef created a soft version of cheese and crackers, meaning all residents could enjoy the experience together. On Thursday we celebrated National Thoughtful Day! We asked our residents what being thoughtful means to them, and created a lovely display filled with their words of encouragement. πŸ’•

Our residents also enjoyed making little thoughtful gifts , which we left outside in the community for people to find. 🎁✨ The idea was to surprise someone, brighten their day, and spread a little kindness wherever we could. 🌼

Chris always goes above and beyond to make sure every resident feels included at mealtimes. Recently, he created an IDDSI Level 4 purΓ©ed version of a classic favourite, a sandwich with vine tomatoes - so that our residents on a purΓ©ed diet don’t miss out on the foods they love. πŸ₯ͺπŸ…

Sleep is as important for our health as our diets and exercise, yet we often cut it short.

Follow these 5 tips to get the most out of it:
1. Whilst the length of sleep is important (aim for 7-9 hrs a night) but quality of sleep is important too. Improve sleep quality by removing distractions from your bedroom, avoiding caffeine late in the day.
2. Sleep consistency is important - going to bed and waking up at the same time each day (even on weekends or kids’ holidays) can improve how restorative your sleep is. Keep lie-ins less than 1 hour.
3. Stop snoozing! Each time you fall back to sleep, you initiate a new sleep cycle which takes 90 mins to complete, so breaking it by another alarm 10 mins later is added stress on your body
4. Keep your bedroom cool - your body needs to drop its temperature to initiate and maintain sleep
5. Screen time before bed has similar effects to drinking coffee on the brain. Avoid screens and blue light in the hour before sleep.
