An exhilarating day out on the Solent was enjoyed to the full by these winning bidders from last year's Gala Dinner auction.

The full day charter aboard the 38 foot Princess motor cruiser, Fenland Dancer, had been generously donated by Mendez Marine, and owner/skipper, Paul, and crewman, Martin, treated our winners to a truly memorable day.

It began with a gentle cruise down the Hamble River before crossing to the Isle of Wight to explore Newtown Creek. A tasty lunch followed at The Terrace, in Yarmouth, and then onward to capture this spectacular view of The Needles, before returning to company's base at Swanwick.

Huge thanks to Mendez Marine for their incredibly generous support, and of course to our winning bidders 🙂

On the 28th February 2022, Lee Serjent underwent surgery for a brain arteriovenous malformation (AVM - a tangle of blood vessels in the brain, which causes blood to bypass the network of capillaries, and flows directly from arteries to veins), which had been discovered on a routine head MRI for tinnitus.

Although daunted by the prospect of an operation on his brain, Lee elected to have surgery to eliminate the risks that came with leaving the AVM untreated, and underwent an 8 hour operation at the Wessex Neurological Centre.

Now, a year on, Lee is fully recovered and back at work; but he hasn't forgotten the wonderful care he received from all the specialist staff at the Centre, and wanted to give something back.

So, on the 25th February, Lee will be shaving his head for febBRAINairy, to raise funds for Smile4Wessex, and support others undergoing brain surgery.

On the 21st February, Police Constable Sean Burridge and Paramedic Aaron Bennett will brave the shave with a very special 'Blue Light febBRAINairy' in aid of Smile4Wessex!

Aaron underwent surgery at the Wessex Neurological Centre last year, having been diagnosed with a 7cm brain tumour, following a routine eye test. Sean is a good friend, as well as a fellow emergency service colleague, and having seen what Aaron and his family have gone (and continue to go) through, wanted to take on the febBRAINairy challenge to support him.

Sean is a serving Police Constable of 24 years, with Surrey Police , whilst Aaron has been a Paramedic for 26 years, currently with the South East Coast Ambulance service. They both believe strongly in the 'Blue Light Family' supporting each other and will therefore both shave off their hair later this month to raise funds and awareness.

We wonder whether they will actually find a Firefighter to complete this emergency response 🤔
