Do you know anyone with Fibromyalgia (FM) or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)? I recommend trying a Gluten Free diet to many of my patients who have either one.

And this type of research study gives the reason! A small study but very well designed, patients with FM – who did not have Coeliac Disease – who followed a completely gluten free diet had dramatic improvements in symptoms. Every single one of them experienced the disappearance of chronic widespread pain, indicating remission of FM. Every single one returned to work or ‘normal’ life, which they had been previously unable to do. In addition, levels of fatigue, depression, gastrointestinal symptoms, migraine and use of opioid painkillers also improved. In addition, 2 patients in the study, who also happened to suffer with inflammatory arthritis conditions (psoriatic arthritis and spondyloarthritis), also went into complete remission for them!

If your body is sensitive to gluten, it sets up low levels of systemic inflammatory problems, which in turn have huge effects on health. Let me know if you'd like to understand how - I may dedicate a podcast episode to gluten for the upcoming Season 3!
