Tots Play combines the benefits of massage, yoga, music, signing and sensory exploration into one fun-filled programme to boost all round development, as you enjoy special time together. Three different classes for the different ages of your little ones. The Baby Development course is designed especially for our youngest babies, and provides new parents with a range of skills and activity ideas to give your baby a head start in life. Classes are from suitable from birth to 6 months old. Discovery Tots classes are fun, interactive weekly play session that you and your baby will both enjoy. A HUGE congratulations to our newest Baby Development graduates.🎓🎉 We've had so much fun together learning baby yoga, sign language, tummy time activities, sensory play ideas and more! It's been such a pleasure watching them all grow and blossom over the last six weeks and I can't wait for them all to join me in our Discovery Tots class!🩵🧡

Gathering a selection of instruments for them to explore is a great way for our Tots to experience different sounds, we can also help them to identify the sounds of different instruments in the songs they hear.💖

Can you help your tot play the instrument loudly and then softly? Can you play it together fast and then slow? Can you make the instrument sound different by playing it in different ways?

You can have so much fun at home with your little one just using simple musical instruments to engage them, and help them learn about all these different concepts, supporting their brain development too - and you just thought they were making a noise! xx

Play is essential for your child’s development, which is why everything we do at Tots Play is based around it (it’s even in our name!) ❤️

The urge to play begins when a child is born and lasts until adulthood. Babies, toddlers, children and teenagers have a natural instinct to play and be playful 😁

Children need different types of play at different times to match their development stage and ability though. A play experience might be easy for one child but challenging for another, but the process of play allows creativity and problem solving skills to develop.

As your baby grows into a toddler you might be wondering, what’s the best way to play with them?

Well, there are lots of ways, and this is such a fun time to really get involved in their playful world. 🥳

Children begin to really explore and discover their surroundings when they’re between one and two years old. Most will take their first steps and add movement to their play during this time. They enjoy repetition and are very curious about the world around them. While they’re able to play a little by themselves they prefer playing with parents or other adults.

Some great activities for children around this age include:

- movement games, singing, dancing, action rhymes
- push along and push and pull toys,
- posting games, filling and emptying containers
- exploring natural materials
- using fat crayons or chalks to write on large pieces of paper on the floor
- jumping in puddles, water play, messy and sensory play

As they get a little older, and more independent they'll want to climb, balance, run and test what they can do. By supporting and encouraging your child to do things for themselves, in a safe environment, they develop self-confidence and resilience, as well as honing their new skills.

Things to try with older toddlers and pre-schoolers could include:

- balancing, jumping, hopping, stopping and starting,
- music and dancing
- playing match, sort and find games
- using crayons, paints and chalks
- baking, gardening, hanging out washing
- ride on toys

Introducing your toddler to lots of different types of play and seeing what engages them the most, is a great way to learn more about their unique personality, and then support them in developing those interests the next time you play.

We had lots of Tummy Time fun this week in our Baby Development Course as well as exploring different smells.😁👃🏻

Babies are social creatures, and they love to make friends!

Bring them to classes are a great way for your baby to meet other around the same age and experience those first interactions with them - it’s an experience they gain so much from. ❤️

It's Natural Wonders Week!🌱🌼
We'll be exploring lots of natural objects this week in class.
A great idea for playing at home is making a natural objects basket, using lots of items you can find around the house or out on a walk!🌳
Babies can hold, smell, and examine the objects as they learn about different weights, sizes, textures, colours and more. Not only is it fun for your baby to explore, but it's also fun for older children to find things together!
Some simple ideas to include are pine cones, sponges, wooden spoons, leaves and sticks.
Why not have a go at making your own?🌻

Our Story

And of course lots of bubbles at the end of every session! Three different classes for the different ages and mobility of your little ones. The Baby Development course is designed especially for our youngest babies, and provides new parents with a range of skills and activity ideas to give your baby a head start in life. Classes are from suitable from birth to 6 months old. Discovery Tots classes are fun, interactive weekly play session that you and your baby will both enjoy. Come and join us at Discovery Tots for physical, social and sensory development through play. Classes are suitable from 8 weeks to crawling/early walking. Social Tots classes are similar to Discovery Tots but adapted for the greater mobility and developmental stages of your growing toddler. Your little one will love the physical, social and creative development through play. Classes are suitable from active crawling to 2 years old. Available for parties too! Please ask for more details! We run classes in Shirley on Wednesdays at the Scout Hut opposite Shirley swimming pool and on Thursdays in Netley Marsh, Totton, at St Matthews Church Hall.
