Broadlands Birth Centre

Broadlands Birth Centre Alongside midwife-led birth centre within Princess Anne Hospital Broadlands is on E level – one floor above labour ward.

Broadlands Birth Centre is suitable for women wishing to have a physiological birth in a home-like atmosphere. It is a midwife-led unit, with midwives taking primary responsibility for your care during labour and birth. Choosing to birth here is only recommended if you have had a straightforward pregnancy, without concerns about your wellbeing or that of your baby. Based within the Princess Anne H

ospital, Broadlands Birth Centre is defined as an ‘alongside midwifery unit’ or a ‘co-located birth centre’ because obstetric, anaesthetic and neonatal services are available within the same building should they be required. We have four birthing rooms, two of which have ensuite facilities. These rooms are equipped with comfortable birthing aids such as balls, beanbags, special chairs and stools and provide a relaxed environment for you and your partner. In addition, there are two spacious pool rooms equipped with adjustable lighting that can be used during labour and/or birth. Visiting hours:

Partners can visit anytime from 9am to 9pm. (Negative Covid-19 screening required prior to postnatal visitation).

As we come to the end of World Breastfeeding Week, we wanted to share some information about this years theme which is ‘Prioritise Breastfeeding; Create Sustainable Support Systems’, which focuses upon the environmental impact of breastfeeding.

By prioritising and supporting breastfeeding, this will help to reduce the environmental impact of formula feeding supply chains. However, breastfeeding can be challenging when families are not well supported. This campaign aims to build a ‘warm chain’ of support, made up of national and local support networks, healthcare professionals and members of the community, who are all providing consistent and supportive messages for parents who are breastfeeding their babies.

We at UHS aim to be a vital link in this chain and are here for you for advice and support.

For more information about World Breastfeeding Week, please visit the website.

World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) is a global network of individuals and organisations dedicated to the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding worldwide.

In addition to community midwives, maternity support workers and health visitors, did you know there are also a variety of other sources of breastfeeding support in our local area for you to access for free?

This leaflet shows all the current available breastfeeding support groups in the local area. They are run by a variety of organisations, are all free to attend, and are available to support you with your ongoing breastfeeding journey for as long as you need them. They are all run by trained breastfeeding specialists and peer supporters who would love to meet you.

There are also hotlines where you can access 24/7 breastfeeding support whenever you need it over the phone.

Did you know we run a free monthly ‘Preparing to Breastfeed’ online workshop?

This workshop is 2 hours long and is held live online from 1830-2030 once a month, to ensure that you and your partners are able to attend without having to miss out due to work or other commitments. We recommend attending this workshop from 32 weeks, but you are welcome to attend at any point in your pregnancy, as many times as you like.

Our workshop covers how breastfeeding works, what to expect, how to attach your baby to your breast effectively and how to overcome and manage challenges.
