Breathwork is a Game Changer. And you don’t have to be spiritual to do it!
I’m part way through a book that continues to transform my view of trauma. Not a self-help book by any stretch of the imagination, The Body Keeps the Score is an academic text dealing with trauma as a science. It is a deep dive into how trauma impacts individuals, and our society. It includes many suggestions on how to heal from these life changing events, with scientific research and studies conducted over decades, proving their effectiveness.
Breathwork, particularly somatic techniques like the conscious connected, is one such suggestion. By directly affecting our body’s nervous system, increasing oxygen levels, and decreasing carbon dioxide in the blood, we can shift ourselves from a state of flight or flight (sympathetic) to rest and digest (parasympathetic), triggering the release of stuck, pent-up energy. This physiological shift leads to a release of endorphins, lowering our emotional defences and allowing us to feel bottled up and forgotten emotions.
Some people cry, others laugh, feeling the weight of long carried burdens disappear. There are those that are finally able to let go of unprocessed grief, mourning losses they hadn’t consciously acknowledged. All without re-living any of the trauma or pain from the past.
If this has sparked some curiosity, a desire to begin or transform your healing journey, join me on Friday 13th June at , under the full moon, to explore the conscious connected breath.
