Had a lovely afternoon undertaking a Celebration of Life in the basement bar of Saks.

A touching introduction by the two daughters of the deceased, followed by my tribute, a song performed by the deceased's partner, a choir, home-cooked food, then a live steel drum band.

The deceased gentleman didn't want a traditional funeral, so his family arranged this incredible Celebration instead. Just goes to show that saying goodbye to your loved one doesn't have to be sombre and upsetting - it can be a joyous, entertaining time. What a privilege!

What a year 2024 was. I've been so lucky to meet a range of people going through some truly terrible times. To be able to help them celebrate the lives of their loved ones has, as always, been an absolute honour.

One of the funerals I led was for my own stepdad, Bob. Such a privilege to talk about him and celebrate his fascinating and varied life.

This work I do is so important and it's incredible to be able to help people during their darkest time.

Death is an inevitable part of life, but remembering those who've passed with fondness, respect and even joy is such a wonderful thing.

The life of a funeral celebrant is a rewarding one. This week, my stepfather, Bob Beaumont sadly passed away. Whilst this is, naturally, a difficult time, it's made easier by the fact that he asked me to conduct his funeral service. In a few short weeks, I will have the absolute privilege of leading a celebration of his life. What an honour. Safe journey, Bob.

I was fortunate to be asked to perform a memorial service last Sunday at The Anchor Pub in Hullbridge.

What a wonderful venue. The weather was glorious, and a good number of people attended (some travelling from as far away as France) to say goodbye to Fred Gray.

It was a lovely celebration of his life and I was honoured to be able to help his family and friends to celebrate his life in the place that he called home for almost 60 years.

I received a lovely piece of feedback from a family recently.

"I was looking for a local humanist funeral celebrant for interment of my son Gordon's ashes and am so glad that I found Dan. We worked hand in hand to prepare a service with reflection music that perfectly celebrated Gordon's life and his passing. Dan's delivery was both professional and compassionate in equal measure. So much so that family and friends commented afterwards on how pleased they were. We highly recommend Dan for such occasions."

Such a pleasure to chat to Gordon's dad and get an insight into the lovely man his son was. Now interred in his Mum's grave, just a few miles from where he was born. It's such a privilege being able to help families during their most difficult times.
