No pressure EVER to sign up for courses of treatment. We are trained in a range of approaches and understand the need to be very gentle in many circumstances or firmer when the need arises. We will always note your preference for the type of treatment you wish to receive.

Visiting an osteopath:
• This is similar to visiting any Registered Medical Practitioner
• We will want to know how the symptoms began and factors that affect them
• Please bring a list of any medications you take
• After a full case history is taken you will be given a postural examination and possibly asked to perform a simple series of movements
• This is followed by a structural examination to identify any problems
• You may also be given orthopaedic, neurological or circulatory examinations (e.g. to aid the diagnosis

We will explain the findings, the appropriate course of action and treatment for your specific requirements. We can also suggest exercise programmes to both improve and maintain flexibility, strength and core stability as well as advising on work space ergonomics and working practices. These measures are designed to help prevent a recurrence of your problem.

Sciatica can be caused by many things, eg a disc bulge, bony spur etc. One potential cause is the piriformis muscle. An accurate evaluation and diagnosis leads on to the correct and appropriate treatment.
