🌟 Have You Done Your NHS Bowel Screening Test Yet? 🌟
Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK β€” but screening helps detect it early, often before symptoms appear. Early detection means treatment is more likely to be successful.
βœ… Who gets the free kit?
β€’ Ages 50–74: You’ll be sent a home test kit (FIT kit) every 2 years.
β€’ 75 or over: Call 0800 707 6060 to request yours.
πŸ§ͺ Simple home test: Collect a tiny poo sample and pop it in the post β€” that’s it!
πŸ” Even better accuracy
The NHS has improved test sensitivity, meaning hundreds more cancers can now be spotted earlier each year.
πŸ’™ If a kit arrives, please use it. It could save your life.

Bowel Cancer Screening: A Vital Step for Early Detection

Bowel cancer screening plays a crucial role in identifying signs of cancer at an earlier, more treatable stage. Screening uses the faecal immunochemical test (FIT), which detects small traces of blood in a stool sample. This can indicate early bowel changes before symptoms arise. https://www.nhs.uk/tests-and-treatments/bowel-cancer-screening/
Eligibility:
β€’ Individuals aged 50 to 74 are automatically sent an NHS bowel cancer screening kit every two years.
β€’ Those aged 75 or older may request a kit by contacting the helpline on 0800 707 6060.

Recent improvements:
The NHS has recently increased the sensitivity of the FIT test to improve early detection rates. This enhancement is expected to identify approximately 600 additional early-stage cancers each year, supporting better treatment outcomes. https://www.england.nhs.uk/2026/01/nhs-detect-prevent-thousands-more-bowel-cancers-more-sensitive-screening/

Action:
If you receive a screening kit, completing and returning it is strongly encouraged. Your participation helps ensure timely diagnosis and, where needed, early intervention.
