A Graduate Sport Rehabilitator (GSR) is a graduate level autonomous healthcare practitioner specialising in musculoskeletal management, exercise based rehabilitation and fitness. Sport Rehabilitators have graduated with a degree or Masters degree in Sport Rehabilitation, a course of study suitable for them to be recognised as a graduate member of the British Association of Sport Rehabilitators and Trainers (BASRaT), the United Kingdom professional body for Graduate Sports Rehabilitators. The Sport Rehabilitator offers the individual unique skills to allow continued optimal participation in their chosen activity. BASRaT graduates are trained solely in Sports and Exercise Medicine, with an emphasis on the design and implementation of exercise and rehabilitation programmes in both health and disease. In addition to being qualified in Sports Rehabilitator, I am also a fully qualified Sports Therapist. Sports Therapy is an aspect of health care that is specifically concerned with the prevention of injury and the rehabilitation of the patient back to optimum levels of functional, occupational and sports specific fitness regardless of age or ability. It utilises the principles of sport and exercise sciences incorporating physiological and pathological processes to prepare the participant for training, competition and where applicable work. Within the clinic, we are also really pleased to have another Graduate Sport Therapist (Kieran Mote) and a Chartered Physiotherapist (Ben Croxford). Between ourselves we aim to provide a first class, fully up to date, evidence based treatment plan to suit and help correct whatever your condition may be.

A lot of people wait until an injury becomes painful and have often had for sometime before doing anything about it.

The earlier you understand what’s going on, the easier it is to manage.

Waiting usually means longer recovery and more frustration.

Most warm ups fail because they’re not specific.

A few stretches and light movements might feel productive, but they don’t prepare your body for the actual demands of training.

A good warm up should:
• prepare the exact movement patterns you’re about to use
• gradually increase load and intensity
• improve how your body feels before you start

If your warm up isn’t changing anything, it’s not doing enough.

📩 If you’re dealing with recurring issues, it’s worth getting guidance on how to prepare properly.

When something feels tight, stretching is usually the first thing people try.

But tightness is often the body’s response to weakness, overload or poor control.

That’s why stretching sometimes feels good temporarily but doesn’t solve the issue.

Fixing the cause matters more than chasing short term relief.

A common reason injuries return is because symptoms improve but capacity never changes.

Pain settles.
Training resumes.
The injury returns.

Rehab should do more than reduce pain.
It should make the body stronger and more resilient than before.

That’s how you break the cycle.

Pain can be confusing.

You can have pain without damage.
And you can have structural changes without pain.

Pain is influenced by many things including load, stress, sleep, recovery and movement patterns.

Understanding what your pain actually means is the first step in solving it.

If something has been bothering you for a while, it’s worth getting clarity.

Persistent tendon pain isn’t something you should just “push through.”

Tendinopathy is one of the most common issues we see in runners, gym-goers and athletes, and it often sticks around because the treatment approach isn’t quite right.

The good news is that most tendon problems can improve with the right rehab plan, proper load management and a bit of patience.

If you’re dealing with ongoing tendon pain, we’ve put together a new blog explaining:
• what tendinopathy actually is
• why it happens
• how it’s treated properly
• and when to get help

The full blog is now live on our website.

The biggest mistake we see after injury is stopping everything.

Complete rest can feel like the safest option, but most injuries actually improve with the right level of movement and loading.

Doing nothing often leads to stiffness, weakness and slower recovery.

The goal isn’t rest.
The goal is progressive rehab that rebuilds capacity.

If you’re unsure what you should or shouldn’t be doing with an injury, getting guidance early makes a huge difference.

A lot of people try to manage injuries by guessing.
More stretching. More rest. Random exercises from social media.

But without understanding the cause of the problem, recovery becomes slower and more frustrating.

A proper assessment looks at how you move, how strong you are, and what loads your body can tolerate.

That’s how you build a plan that actually works.

Rehab rarely looks dramatic.
Most of the progress happens in the small, consistent steps.

Better movement.
More confidence.
Stronger foundations.

Over time those small changes add up to real recovery.
