๐Ÿฅฐ Our residents often feel like family, but in Jane and Sally's case it was actually true! ๐Ÿฅฐ

Devoted sisters Jane and Sally reunited at Down Hall in May last year, spending the last year of Janeโ€™s life together before she sadly died earlier this month.

Sally made Down Hall her home in September 2024, and when Janeโ€™s dementia meant that she needed additional care, the two were reunited more than 50 years since they lived together as children.

For individuals living with dementia, revisiting stories from their childhood can be an important link to their past, evoking emotions and moments that may otherwise seem lost. Sometimes, all it takes is a picture or an anecdote to unlock a memory and bring a moment of clarity and joy ๐Ÿ’š

Sally says: โ€œIt was beautiful to be able to be together again in our later lives. From our childhood, our best quality has always been how much we looked out for each other. If either of us felt a little down, the other one would cheer her up.

โ€œWe encouraged each other to stay active and take part in the activities here at Down Hall with our friends, and we both especially enjoyed the seated exercise classes that Louise the activities lady leads.

โ€œI love the outdoors, walking and feeding the birds. Often Jane and I would sit watching the birds at the feeders in the garden, we both found it very relaxing.

โ€œJane loved her musicals, so I would sometimes pop to her room and watch them with her. She was a buyer for Selfridges when she was younger and still adored talking about anything to do with fashion!โ€

The sisters would meet up for lunch each day and then head to our library to chat and read.

Louise, our activities organiser, adds: โ€œThe sisters loved to reminisce about old times and chat about their childhood years. They both shared a love of books so would meet up in our new library room."

โค๏ธ๐Ÿฉท LOVE is in the air at Down Hall Residential Care Home ๐Ÿฉทโค๏ธ

To mark ๐Ÿ’• Valentine's Day ๐Ÿ’• we have gathered together old and beloved photos of some of our residents with their partners for a game of Guess Who!

Whoever correctly matches the photos with the residents will win a bottle of Buck's Fizz ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿฅ‚ So if you are a regular visitor to Down Hall and would like to take part, collect an entry form from the senior's office. The winner will be selected on Feb 21st.

We just love looking at old photos ๐Ÿ“ธ with our residents and hearing their stories and memories. Getting to know our residents and discovering their wonderful lives is honestly one of the best parts of our job! ๐Ÿฅฐ For those residents living with dementia, it allows us to support them to retain their sense of who they are and what they love.

For our residents who live apart from their husband or wife, we support them to spend quality time together as a couple โค๏ธ They can have meals together, spend time in the garden, and join in with lots of the activities together.
