Being the one who gets sh*t done is the very thing stopping you from getting the business of leading done.
Here’s the truth they don’t tell you in leadership training (if indeed you actually got any!)
➡️ What made you a rockstar individual contributor will burn you out as a leader (and guarantee that any A players on your team move on...)
I see it every day:
Brilliant women burning out because they're operating from 3 key identity myths that worked before but are sabotaging them now.
# 1
💡 The Indispensable Problem-Solver: The first port of call for every "emergency" because you're good at solving issues.
Here's why it's a problem: Though it feels great to be so useful, your value as a leader isn't measured by how many fires you put out.
It's measured by how few fires start in the first place.
# 2
💡 The “I’ll Just Do It Myself” Martyr: You tell yourself it’s faster and more effective to take care of it yourself rather than leaving it to the right person.
Here's why that's a problem:
It IS faster today. But tomorrow? You're just solving that and 3 more problems that cropped up.
Now you don't have time for what you should actually be doing.
Leadership is 80% strategic planning, people and processes, 20% doing. Not the other way around.
# 3
💡 The Secret Doubter: You have a quiet voice whispering, “Am I really cut out for this?” and you are starting to believe it.
Here's why that's a problem:
That voice isn't reporting the news. It's fear mongering.
Leadership isn't about being perfect.
It's about being human enough to inspire other humans to be their best.
Breaking free isn't about learning another productivity hack.
It’s about shedding an old identity to make space for a new one.
