Why regular exercise is NOT easy!

Everyone knows looking after your body becomes easier when exercising is already second nature – but building the habits to get you to that point? THAT often feels impossible.

Turns out the old chestnut “it only takes 21 days to build a habit” is a big fat MYTH. But before we feel too disheartened, there’s loads to be inspired by in this – and I’ve just finished writing a short blog explaining why.

If you want the truth about how long it really takes to build an exercise habit, read it!

Are you holding back because you’re worried about how others view you?

I was, I don’t recognise the Lou of 18 months ago. Same face, same body, but when I look at pictures or videos of me back then, it’s glaringly obvious that something wasn’t right.

At least it would be if there were any pictures or videos!

You might be getting used to seeing my face on camera now but this time last year there was no way I’d have shared stuff like this. Thankfully exercise and Pilates has helped me feel completely different.

You see, exercise isn’t just good for your body, it’s good for your mind too. Just like it’s done for me, moving your body more will increase your confidence.

My skydive was a celebration of all that work on myself and a great way to demonstrate ‘no holding back’!

If you want someone to keep you accountable and to help you get more flexible and confident, why not try Pilates classes with me?

Our groups have a fantastic time together every Monday evening and Thursday mornings and I’d love for you to join!

I stepped into Sainsbury’s this morning to an onslaught of clashing red and pink hearts, chocolate everywhere, ALL the roses… Can’t BELIEVE we’re already nearing the middle of Feb.

If you feel like time’s flying too and you’ve realised you STILL haven’t really got round to that resolution you made nearly six weeks ago now, I’d love to help you throw yourself in.

We’re all guilty of putting things off until we’re in the “perfect” situation.

You’ll do a workout once you’ve cleared that room out and bought all the kit…
Or once you’ve got enough hours of sleep in the bank to feel up to a bit of activity…
“I’ll get to it as soon as the housework’s sorted and the kids are at school…”

The thing is, life is busy, it’s messy, time goes quickly, and if you wait for things to be “just right” before you start, it’ll never happen.

So why not forget waiting for the right time and give my latest video a try? It’s NOT perfect, it’s a little rough around the edges but you can give it a go right now – all you need is a bit of space on the floor. Here’s the link: https://lb-physio.co.uk/how-to-just-get-started-with-pilates/

Over the last few years I’ve noticed both men and women seem to just accept incontinence and loss of bladder, bowel and s*xual function as normal…

“It’s my age…”
“I’ve had three kids – I expected this…”

But the truth is, it ISN’T normal.

It takes an average seven years for someone to seek help for an incontinence problem, whereas our treatment to reverse that problem usually takes just a few months.

So if you’re in a position where you need to go to the loo several times a night – or you always need to be close to a toilet… If you’re worried about pain during s*x, constantly wearing pads or afraid you’ll leak or prolapse if you go for a run…

Pelvic health treatment can help you enjoy life more again.

Often, pelvic floor exercises form a part of the plan – for both men and women. But you can’t see inside down there and it can be tricky to feel the muscle. So here’s a quick video to help you find and contract your pelvic floor. Give it a watch and let me know how you get on? (Feel free to private message!!)

I’m sharing some news today – after four years of practising privately on my own, I’m sooo happy and excited to welcome Aedin Finn to LB Physio.

We used to work together while I was with the NHS, so I’ve already witnessed the amazing work Aedin does first hand.

She brings loads of experience to our team, including chronic pain, back and shoulder pain. Like me she also treats Pelvic health too 🙌

If you’ve been suffering with shoulder pain, back pain or chronic pain or you know someone who’s currently battling physical problems like these, please point them in our direction.

To celebrate Aedin joining LB Physio, we’re offering 20% off your first session with her when you book it during her first month.

Have a great weekend!

P.S. Please do spread the message about Aedin – more than happy to share that 20% discount with anyone you know!

I had to swallow my pride and go to see another physio recently.

It’d been months since I tore my ACL playing netball and I was still experiencing pain (despite helping countless people recover from this exact injury in the past, plus I’d been doing my exercises very diligently!).

The problem seems obvious now.

I needed eyes on that weren’t mine. Someone to pick up where my timing was off. Someone to show me where I was weakest, where I was losing form, where I had less control.

I came away from that first session buzzing. It felt amazing not to be carrying all the responsibility myself, to feel supported and heard.

After just 3 sessions I’m finally confident in my knee again, back lifting heavy at the gym – and I’ve even been skiing this weekend!

With NHS waiting lists SO long, and my colleagues in outpatients being deployed back to the wards, the value you’ll get from a private physio will outweigh the cost no end.

If you’ve got an injury and you need support, don’t let money be a barrier to you seeking help – please get in touch and we can work something out!

Hello you, welcome to my first post in a VERY long time…Confession included.

Last week was my first week back in the clinic and it feels GREAT to be back, sharing what I love again.

I’d needed a break you see, a bit of time to deal with my inner critic because – here’s that confession – I’m definitely one to suffer from imposter syndrome.

In the past, I’ve spent a lot of time comparing myself to other people, worrying I haven’t got the perfect set-up, the perfect photos or the perfect videos to share.

But… Perfection isn’t everything, so I’m refocusing on what’s most important – and that’s giving you all the help and value that I can so that you can make this year fantastic – injury-free, body-loving and exercise-loving too.

So please expect to see authentic me, Lou, in front of the camera, on Zoom, at the blog and, of course, in clinic.

And enjoy all the tips and tricks I’ll be sending in your direction along the way!

Speak soon,

Lou x

Totally inspired and humbled by today as she came for her with me. I love her heart and passion to see Women in the postnatal stage supported and empowered to help their own physical recovery and journey. The fact that she was humble enough to include me (a fellow women’s health physio) in her journey blew me away. We are on a mission to provide better postnatal care to the women in our area and the is the perfect comprehensive appointment to do that. Find her report on our session in her feed...suffice to say she’s a very compliant client and started her rehab exercises immediately!
You may wonder why she even needed to come- surely she knows it?! For us Physio’s though it’s often hard to step back and be objective. We tend to over analyse some areas of our own postnatal journeys/even injuries and miss other key parts. Sometimes it’s accountability and structure that’s most helpful...knowing someone has checked in and given you a plan. Taking the overwhelming nature of postnatal recovery for mother’s and breaking it down into smaller individualised steps.
It’s always a privilege to be part of a postnatal journey, this one just extra special 🥰 go team !!

raising awareness of the impact incontinence has but also the help for those suffering.
If you leak (even a little) with jumping or running then you have what’s known as stress incontinence. When under too much stress from the impact through the body of these movements- the pelvic floor cannot support the bladder and leaking occurs. Maybe you can run for a bit or get through 1/2 way through a bounce class? Maybe then the pelvic floor is struggling with endurance? Although it’s common it isn’t normal and we should pay attention and get help. If you aren’t doing regular pelvic floor exercises then start! 3 x a day - lift as if you are trying to stop passing wind (without squeezing your bum muscles!!) repeat x 10 holding for 10 secs.
Can’t feel it? Not sure you are doing it right? Check in with a pelvic health physio. It won’t get better by itself, we need to stop normalising bladder leaking.

Repost post of her MUMMY MOT 🌸 with me yesterday! Such a joy to have Ellie in for this session- Here’s what she said....

Last night I went to my Mummy MOT with Louise (something i never did after having Luna). My intention was to film all the steps so I could give you an insight of what to expect. However the award for the most inappropriately dressed client goes to…. 🙋🏻‍♀️🤣🤦🏻‍♀️ - i didn’t appreciate how in depth it was and how much movement I’d have to do for her to assess me. So my first tip for anyone going to their first mummy MOT - wear something you can move in so you don’t end up doing the whole thing in your teeny tiny pants 🤣

Anyway, aside from my wardrobe malfunction the whole experience was eye opening and amazing and something i truly wish all post natal women received as a given.

Step 1 - you receive a really thorough consultation so they know the ins and outs from pre pregnancy, pregnancy and then your birth experience.

Step 2 - you are assessed on loads of simple functional movements such as: squats, lunges, hops, jumps, leg raises etc

Step 3 - a full assessment of your abdominals. Mine aren’t functioning well at all. This is something if i am super honest am struggling to come to terms with. A double knee fold for me, right now is too much. This is a hard pill to swallow when I’m used to doing the advanced reformer and core work is my job. However…. I’m seeing it as a good lesson for me and it will make me an even better more understanding teacher so…. Every cloud 🙌🏼✨

Step 4 - full pelvic floor internal examination. I am very happy that my pelvic floor is very functional so I’m chuffed to bits with that.

Step 5 - you are shown home work and tips to do at home plus you are sent a full report the next day.
I cannot recommend the amazing enough! Super professional and understanding and really easy to be with. I felt relaxed and at ease the whole time. I’ll be back in 4 weeks for a further assessment and see what the next steps will be for recovery 🙌🏼.

I’ve had a few new followers recently so I thought it was about time I properly introduced myself!

⭐️I’m Louise and I run LB Physio 😀
⭐️I worked in the NHS as a Physio for 11 years and then opened my own practiced just over 2 years ago.
⭐️ I have 2 children aged 7 and 5 who bring adventure, chaos, fun and exhaustion 🤣!
⭐️ I love to play netball, exercise outside, read, eat with friends and LEARN anything and everything!
⭐️ My passion is to help others get back to what they love- not limited by pain or dysfunction. I specialise in women’s health which means I help women who have concerns about their bladders/bowels. I see lots of women postnatally and around menopause who experience incontinence, pain, tummy separation, prolapse and back pain.
⭐️ I love my job and I’m so happy i became a physio!

Got a question for me or think I might be able to help you- get in touch 😀.
