🐝 When a queen dies, a decision must be made.
Not in panic. Not in fear.
But with purpose.
The hive doesn’t collapse. It adapts.
From a sea of ordinary larvae, a few are chosen. Not because they’re special. But because they could be.
They’re fed something extraordinary: royal jelly—the nectar of transformation.
And that’s where the magic begins.
This isn’t fate. It’s nurture.
One larva, fed with care, becomes what no one expected—a queen.
Not born. Made.
She’ll live longer. Rebuild order.
And where there was silence, she’ll bring rhythm again.
Because in a hive, crisis doesn’t create chaos—it creates leadership.
🧡
And maybe there’s something in that for us, too:
That greatness isn’t always a matter of blood or title.
It’s what happens when someone ordinary is given extraordinary support.
Let’s feed each other better futures. 🍯
Let’s raise more queens.

So why do we practice yoga?

What is it that encourages us to get on to our mats time after time, regardless of whether or not we have time, energy or motivation?

Is it because of the numerous benefits we experience? Including reduced stress, depression and anxiety; improved emotional and physical health; better sleep; and increased levels of contentment? (in case you had forgotten!)

Or is it the joy of spending time 'alone' on our mat in a sacred space that we create just for ourselves?

Could it be the simple pleasure of sharing space with like-minded people?

Or maybe it's that feeling of pure peace that descends at some point during the practice?

Whatever gets you onto your mat, spare a moment to be grateful, because every time we get roll out our mat and do our practice, we are gifting ourselves enhanced health on every level - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

Yoga really is magic! 🪄✨🕉🙏

What a fabulous book this is! Loaned to me by one of my student friends, this book teaches how to be present with, and accepting of, our demons - the stuff that is hidden in our shadow Self - that hold us back and subconsciously control us. When we can identify something by bringing it into the light, we can then work with it rather than battling against it.

Very apt for this week, as we shall be working towards acceptance in our practices. Have a good week everyone! 🙏

Good morning everybody!

This term our Practice is coming from the Heart Space, as we focus on different qualities and energies that reside within this space. Last week, we focused on courage, since courage gives us the energy to change, grow and evolve, and to follow our Dharma (life's purpose). This week, throughout our yoga practice, we shall be focusing on presence. When we are present, we are able to let go of the disappointments of the past, forget the anxieties of the future and enjoy the moment just as it is, in peace. Being present also enables us to lean in to experiences, rather than running from them. From that quiet space, change happens 🙏

Have a lovely week!

What’s Happening This Week in Class?

For mat-based students, the first part of this term is all about Pawanmuktasana (energy block release).

In the highly regarded, seminal book “Asana Pranayama Mudra Bandha” by Swami Satyananda Saraswati, we are told that “the Pawanmuktasana series is one of the most important groups of practices that has a very profound effect on the human body and mind and is thus a most useful tool for the yogic management of various disorders and maintenance of health.”

As with all three Pawanmuktasana practices, this week’s practice – The Digestive Series – encourages us to better understand the meaning of asana by developing an awareness of the movements of the body and the subtle effects these movements have on all our layers of being.

Meanwhile, in chair yoga, we shall be focusing our attention specifically on opening up the side body in order that we might create more space in the lungs to breath, and encourage energy to flow more freely throughout the body and mind.

Our Story

Enabling and empowering students and clients to better understand their mind and body, and encouraging "self healing" wherever possible, using Yoga Therapy and/or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy modalities. Working with clients on a one-to-one basis to resolve presenting issues such as: stress, low self esteem, anxiety, depression, phobia, addiction, anger and poor body image. Working alongside conventional health practitioners to ease the pain stress and trauma caused by physical medical conditions, combining eastern wisdom with western science.

Teaching and sharing the many elements of hatha yoga: asana (physical postures), pranayama (breathing practices), mindfulness and meditation, relaxation, nidra (therapeutic yogic relaxation), yin, restorative (for rejuvenation and therapeutic purposes), mantra, pawanmuktasana (energy block release) either in classes and workshops or on a one-to-one basis.

Working to encourage everybody to de-stress, relax, heal and calm down! Free to think is a privately owned business that works with clients on a one-to-one session basis, or with groups through classes, courses and workshops. The primary aim is to discover and explore ways in which we might all find ways of confronting and challenging negative issues (whether they be physical, mental, emotional or spiritual), in order that we may re-assert control over our lives, learn how to live in the moment and find and maintain the peace and happiness that we all deserve. My approach is holistic, recognising that we are all individuals and that we all experience our life differently and that we need to deal with challenges in an individual way in order to develop our own future.
