A little introduction about me and Ohana.

My name is Trish and I am 48. Born in Portugal, been in the UK since I was 11 and moved to Lincolnshire in 2006. I established Jello’s in 2008 where my main focus is now holistic treatments like tailored massage and recently added Hypnotherapy when I qualified as part of my studies of Psychotherapy (not a qualified counsellor, yet).

I am a huuuuggge Stitch fan from the Lilo & Stitch film.

“Ohana” means family. Family means no one gets left behind or forgotten.

That includes “you”! Hypnotherapy is a very helpful way to explore your beliefs and the values that we inherited in childhood, as a process of evaluating how those impact your life now.

For example:

“You must clear your plate, don’t waste food” bypasses your internal awareness of when you are full, which can lead to over eating.

Hypnotherapy for weight loss is not a nutritional plan to lose weight. Most people know if you eat less and exercise more, you can lose weight.
In identifying the reasons why you might over eat or self sabotage you can recognise your history with food and with hypnosis reprogram your subconscious mind to be aligned with your goal.

This can be applied to other areas in your life, like anxiety/ stress / sleep difficulties/ quitting smoking or va**ng and much more…

If you would like to find out more, pls send me a message and I offer a free 15min consultation ☺️

A little reminder for us all ☺️

Just popping up to say hi! 🐋

This wonderful whale picture reminds us that a huge thing can exist but not take over the space around us. This could be stress, grief, a habit you want to quit, or anything you hold with you every day. Whilst those feelings can be huge and feel all-encompassing up close, by creating a little distance and stepping back from the situation, you can see there is more space in your world for more positive, happy moments. 🐋

Take a moment to assign those feelings to this whale, as it dives back into the ocean, allow those feelings to swim with it. They may surface from time to time, and it is important to acknowledge them, say hi to your whale, take a deep breath, and allow those feelings to swim away again. 🐋

Allow yourself space to feel happy, joyful and grateful. You deserve it. 🐋

Preparing for a hypnotherapy session - what do I do?

So, you’ve made a big step towards investing in your well-being. You’ve realised you need some help, reached out for support, and booked a hypnotherapy session. If this is your first time trying hypnotherapy, (or any type of therapy) you may feel a little daunted. So what do you do now?

This article will help you to prepare for your session with a hypnotherapist, and to know what to expect, to get the most out of your time together.
Maybe you are seeking hypnotherapy for anxiety, for a phobia, or to overcome limiting beliefs. Maybe you have tried other types of therapy and they didn’t work, or you are on a waiting list for more ‘traditional’ approaches. You might be at the end of your tether, or perhaps you are seeking help as a preventative measure before any potential problems get worse.
Whatever your reasons for choosing hypnotherapy, here are some dos and don'ts to keep in mind when preparing for a hypnotherapy session.
________________________________________
Do...
Ask questions
It's absolutely ok to make a list of questions to ask your hypnotherapist - because it's incredibly important that you can build a solid foundation of trust with them. Any therapist worth their salt will welcome questions and will be 100% honest, transparent and authentic when answering. Questions you could ask include:
• What’s been your experience of dealing with X?
• Which assessments do you use to measure my progress?
• What motivates you to do what you do?
• How do you think you can help me?
Building trust, also known as rapport, is the number one most important indicator of success in any form of therapy regardless of the type of therapy, the length of practice, or the qualifications the therapist has. So asking questions, and being happy with the answers, is a great way to build trust in your therapist. It's ok to make them earn it!
Think about what you’d like to get out of the session
Having an idea of your goals, whether it's in therapy or any other aspect of your life, makes it more likely to reach them. Even if your goal is just wanting to be more clear on your goals! Some suggestions for you to consider are:
• What are you going to hypnotherapy for?
• How would you like to think and feel afterwards?
• What are your expectations of therapy?
• How would you like your life to change, longer term?
By being clear on what you want to get out of the session, and communicating those goals to your therapist, they will be in a better position to tailor their approach to help you and your unique situation. Don’t forget - everything you tell them is confidential, and they are bound by a strict code of ethics to protect, respect, and honour the information you share with them.
Keep an open mind
Hypnotherapy is different from other forms of therapy in that it works with the subconscious mind. This differs from your logical, thinking brain because our subconscious thought processes are hidden under the surface. So some of the techniques we use may seem a bit ‘out there’ compared to CBT or other talk therapies, for example:
• We may ask you to visualise certain places, people or memories.
• We may invite you to create imaginary scenarios.
• You might be asked to draw your attention to relevant parts of your body.
• Your hypnotherapy session may also include tapping on specific body parts, or certain eye movements, depending on the training of the hypnotherapist you choose.
Accessing your subconscious mind is an integral part of hypnotherapy but please don’t feel daunted by that. You 100% cannot, and will not be made to do anything you don’t want to. You will be in control at all times. You only need to go into memories that you are willing to go into, and it will be for a reason, with a particular intention. The right therapist will put your mind at ease beforehand about the work they are going to do with you.
________________________________________
Don’t...
Disclose anything that you aren’t ready to yet
Rapport takes time to build, and it's time well spent. If there is stuff you aren’t ready to share, for example, painful or traumatic memories, you are not obliged to go there if you aren’t ready yet. Working with the present moment, your ambitions for the future, or other less painful memories will be more effective, for now.
Rush to get everything ‘fixed’ straight away
Often when we are in pain, whether it's mental, emotional or physical pain, we want it to just. End. Now. This is entirely understandable! But although hypnotherapy can often be effective in a remarkably short space of time, it's also best to allow healing to happen at an unhurried pace.
When we feel rushed, it can put the brain on high alert - not exactly conducive to healing. Understanding that healing is a process, and giving yourself grace, and enough time to do so, will encourage and reinforce the feeling of safety that is such an important part of getting better.
Feel guilty for taking time for yourself
Work, money issues, looking after family - it's so easy to put ourselves last. Often if we feel time or money pressure, the first thing to go out of the window is self-care. And let's face it, therapy can be expensive! Does this mean you need to feel bad about looking after yourself? No!
Think about it this way - if your best friend was in a bad place, and wanted to try therapy, what would you say to them? Would you hold them back, or encourage them?
Or this way, if you don’t get help now, and your problem persists, where will you be in 10 years time? What will the effect be on those around you? If you do get help, and your problem resolves, what would your life look and feel like instead? How will this positively impact those around you?
Now compare the two future scenarios. See how they are completely different?
Therapy is an investment and often the one that you will thank yourself most for in the future. So you can walk into that session feeling grateful to yourself, for putting in the effort, time, and resources to look after yourself. And you may be thanking yourself even more when you walk out!

Other practical things to consider when preparing for a hypnotherapy session
• Tell people that you won’t be contactable, and turn off your phone for the duration. It's important to be able to relax and focus during your hypnotherapy session - you don’t want to be disturbed by your phone ringing or pinging with notifications when you are with your therapist.
• If you are working online, make sure you are in a room with a good internet connection, enough light, and somewhere comfortable to sit. Ask other people in the house not to come in. You may need to arrange for someone to look after your children or pets so they don’t interrupt you when you are with your hypnotherapist.
• Schedule in a few minutes to relax and regroup after your hypnotherapy session before going back to your day. Giving yourself a buffer of 5-10 minutes before going back to your busy day-to-day life will allow you an opportunity to reflect on and integrate the work you have done together.

Going for therapy can be scary, especially if it's your first time, you are out of your comfort zone, or you have problems with trust. But good therapists are very caring by nature, and by definition, they are there to help you. By feeling prepared, and knowing what to expect, you will feel empowered to get the most out of your time in hypnotherapy. You have got this!

The complete guide to hypnotherapy

By Kat Nicholls,

How does hypnotherapy work? Here we take a closer look at what hypnotherapy can help with and what to expect in a session

Hypnotherapy is one of those therapies that seems to be shrouded in mystery. Many of us have heard of it and may even have preconceived notions, but often we don’t know exactly what it is and how it can help. This sense of the unknown can stop us from looking at it as a viable option, which is a shame.
The beauty of the therapy world is that there are so many different options: from traditional talking therapies and life coaching to complementary therapies and hypnotherapy.
We always recommend discussing therapies with your doctor if you’re looking for support with a physical or mental illness and following their advice. In some cases, hypnotherapy can be used alongside counselling or other therapies, or you may turn to it when other approaches have failed.

To start with then – what exactly is hypnotherapy? It’s a therapy that works on the subconscious, the part of our mind we’re not consciously aware of. The subconscious is responsible for a great deal of thought processes and behaviours; the aim of hypnotherapy is to encourage positive change by communicating with it.

How does hypnotherapy work?
In order to communicate with your subconscious, you’ll need to be put into a hypnotic state. This may sound a little scary, but really it is just a very deep relaxation. You will still be completely aware of what’s happening around you.
Speaking with us to dispel hypnotherapy myths, hypnotherapist Lorraine McReight explains: “In hypnosis, a person will be more open to suggestion and therefore able to change patterns of behaviour that are unhelpful, but no one can make you do anything you don’t want to do.”

When you are in this state, your hypnotherapist will use suggestion techniques to talk to your subconscious. The idea is to help you uncover the root causes of issues, change thought patterns and ultimately change behaviour. There are different tools and techniques hypnotherapists can use here, depending on what you need support with.
You may need multiple sessions or just one – again this will depend on what you’re seeking help for. Many hypnotherapists will also teach you self-hypnosis techniques so you can continue the work outside of your sessions.

What can hypnotherapy help with?
Hypnotherapy can be used for lots of different concerns. Any issue that could have roots in the way you think and behave may be addressed. Having said this, there are certain conditions that are believed to not be helped by hypnotherapy, including psychosis and personality disorders.
The most popular ways hypnotherapy can help is by changing habits, helping with stress-related conditions and easing anxiety. Here we look at some common issues that can be addressed with hypnotherapy.

Changing habits
Habits become hardwired into our subconscious which can make them difficult to change using willpower alone. If you have habits or behaviours you’re looking to alter, hypnotherapy may be able to support you. By suggesting different reactions and more positive behaviours, many people find success. Two areas people often turn to hypnotherapy for are changing eating habits and quitting smoking.

Eating habits – If you’re unhappy with your eating habits and your relationship with food, hypnotherapy could help. Many of us have a complex relationship with food and we may turn to it as a source of comfort. If this relationship becomes unhealthy and you’re looking for support with weight management, hypnotherapy can help you make positive and healthy changes.

Quitting smoking – There are several different methods to try and quit smoking, from going cold turkey to using ni****ne replacement therapy. Hypnotherapy can be a great complement to these or a stand-alone method to quit smoking. The aim of hypnotherapy is to break the thinking patterns associated with smoking.

Hypnotherapist Gavin Roberts explains, “Through hypnosis, your unconscious can generate healthy alternative behaviours which you will carry out automatically. In effect, your stop smoking hypnosis session will reprogram your unconscious mind to produce the same positive intentions that you believe ci******es have given you but in far healthier and normal ways. The human body was never designed to smoke, it is not a ‘normal’ behaviour.”

Stress-related conditions
When stress builds up it can really affect us, both physically and mentally. Hypnotherapy for stress looks to change negative responses to stress and offer a more healthy alternative. As well as helping with stress in general, hypnotherapy can help with many stress-related conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and sleep problems.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) – The link between our digestive system and our brain is becoming more and more apparent. IBS, for example, is known to be triggered by stress. So by easing stress, symptoms can be reduced. Learning how to manage stress through hypnotherapy can therefore be very helpful for those with IBS.
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) even recognise hypnotherapy as a treatment option for IBS.

Insomnia – Stress can often lead to problems sleeping and may lead to insomnia. When you struggle to sleep, the cycle of not sleeping and worrying about not sleeping can become a pattern in our subconscious. This is where hypnotherapy can help – by speaking to the subconscious and changing these thought patterns.

Anxiety-related conditions
Another area hypnotherapy is proving to be powerful in is anxiety and anxiety-related conditions. Encouraging relaxation and new responses to stress, this approach can, in some cases, reach parts of the mind other therapies can’t.

Anxiety – The suggestions used in hypnotherapy to help with anxiety will depend on what specifically triggers you. Penny Ling spoke to us to explain why hypnotherapy for anxiety can be so powerful.

“Hypnotherapy works exceptionally well for anxiety. Many hypnotherapists find progressive relaxation very useful to help a person go into a trance state. We are allowing a person to be aware of the tension they’re carrying around with them, and to relax those muscles. By the time we work on the issue, the person is in a lovely relaxed state. It's like having a mental massage.”
Phobias – Phobias generally live in our subconscious, making them ideal to approach with hypnotherapy. Your sessions may include understanding what first triggered your phobia and offering positive suggestions to change the way you think and feel about the phobia in question.

What happens in a hypnotherapy session?
If you’ve made the decision to try hypnotherapy, having a clearer idea of what will happen in your session can be helpful. It’s important to note that hypnotherapists may differ in their approach and sessions will vary depending on your individual circumstances.
With this in mind, hypnotherapists will typically begin with a consultation. This is where you can discuss what you’re hoping to gain from hypnotherapy and they explain how it will be able to help. You’ll be able to discuss here how many sessions you’ll need and ask any questions you may have about the process.

After your consultation, many sessions will follow this pattern:
• An initial chat where you can ask any more questions and get comfortable.
• Induction. You will be led into a state of deep relaxation by your hypnotherapist.
• Once you are in a state of hypnosis the 'change work' can begin. Various techniques and approaches will be used here to help you achieve your goal.
• Once this is complete, you will be gradually brought out of your trance.
• At the end you can ask any more questions you may have, chat through a summary of the session and progress made so far.

Hypnotherapy isn't the right approach for everyone, but it can be worth
exploring.
