My Slimming World Journey

Why did I join slimming world?
Well I joined basically because I didn’t like how I looked or felt. All through my childhood, my teens and into my adult life I was always over weight. So many faddy diets I tried, all got me a weight loss, but I never understood why it always went back on. So I finally realised, enough was enough, no more yo yo dieting, I had to learn how to eat healthy and to keep the weight off.
I joined slimming world in Godmanchester on the 26th February 1996, weighing 12 stones 9 lbs reaching my first target of 9 stone 9lbs on the 23rd September 1996, and then dropping my target to 9 stone 3lbs a few weeks later. This weight, I have managed to maintain, give or take a few pounds to this present day. Going from a size 16 to a size 8
2026 will see me being at target for 30 years !!!
I did find the plan quite easy, in the days of Red & Green, I normally stayed with Red, eating plenty of meat and veg. I am not a very good cook, not one of these people who can throw things together, so I think it is good for others to know, that if like me, you find cooking a bit stressful, you can still get results from basic foods and basic meals. Now, with the Extra Easy plan and all the new tools available, it gives so much variety, there is never a need to feel deprived or to get bored.
Slimming World helped me understand what made me put on weight, and I have finally learnt how to keep the weight off, my whole way of eating has changed along with my mindset around food. You must get over the cravings, if high calorie foods are in the house, which, lets face it, they are always going to be, learn that you don’t need them.
At home, I still have every meal on the plan, my snacks are all still counted & my daily syns are still around 10 - 15. I do allow myself a bit of leeway on meals out and holidays, I am no saint but when back at home, its business as usual.
Having gone through several different consultants in my time, and I still enjoy going to group, never missing a week unless on holiday. I have been on many social teams for many years and have a lovely group of friends from them.
Slimming world is now my life, I am always asked why I keep going, well, I can’t imagine not going, keeping a check on things and having a nice couple of hours with people that I may inspire, that have like me, made the decision to change.
I really hope that I lead a good example to everyone, to show that after all the effort of losing weight, it is possible to enjoy being on the plan, keep slim and have a good social life without putting it all back on.
