It's a beautiful day in St Neots! 🌞 We are moving from the quiet
and stillness of winter to spring, the season of the Wood element.🌳🌿🪵

In Chinese Medicine your body is seen as being deeply connected to nature and each season is associated with specific organs, emotions and elements. Changes in the environment may impact your body's internal balance. Acupuncture can help with the transition between the seasons by strengthening the organs most vulnerable in that season, supporting the immune system, preventing seasonal illnesses and harmonising your body's vital energy (Qi.)

You might consider acupuncture if you suffer from mood shifts at certain times of the year, have chronic conditions that flare up at particular times, struggle with low energy and fatigue, want to boost your immune system or as a general preventative approach to your health. 😊

Happy Lunar New Year of the Fire Horse! 🔥🐎 We need to hold onto our hats this year as the combination of Fire and Horse indicates intense, fast moving energy suggesting a time of rapid change and spontaneity. This lively energy means that it is important to stay in tune with our reserves so that we don't become burnt out. Acupuncture supports our resilience and overall wellbeing, helping to reduce stress, ease muscle tension and calm the nervous system. The beginning of a new year is a great time to prioritise our health and take time for ourselves so that we are better able to deal with what life brings us.😊

Does acupuncture hurt? 🤔

This is a common question and the short answer is usually no. As you can see from the photo ⬇️ acupuncture needles are hair thin, nothing like injection needles.

The experience of acupuncture is individual and personal. Some people might feel a subtle, dull ache others a tingling or heaviness. Occasionally needles maybe felt intensely or sometimes not at all. As a five element acupuncturist I only use a few needles during treatment.

Many people have told me that they are scared of needles but once they try acupuncture they find how deeply relaxing it can be.😊

Thinking of trying acupuncture? 🤔

If you are considering acupuncture, it is important to choose an acupuncturist who is properly trained. I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) and have undertaken a three year degree level course at the fantastic Acupuncture Academy in Leamington Spa. You can find out more about the BAcC here:

And if you have any questions I am always happy to chat! 😊

What is Gua Sha? 🤔

I often see people in my clinic with neck, shoulder and back pain or tightness and this is a technique I use along with acupuncture to help these symptoms.

Gua sha involves the use of a smooth edged tool, traditionally a ceramic soup spoon, but I use a jam jar lid to repeatedly stroke the skin. Oil is applied to the area and the tool is moved across the skin in upward and outward strokes.

Gua means "scrape" and Sha "sand" which refers to red marks called petechiae that appear on the skin. This scraping motion stimulates blood circulation, easing pain and inflammation. 😊

What is moxibustion? 🤔

Moxibustion is a warming technique that involves burning dried mugwort (moxa) on or near acupuncture points. This produces heat and stimulates Blood and Qi (vital energy) circulation. I use these moxa sticks in my clinic.⬇️

Moxa can be used to treat joint and muscle pain, digestive issues, fatigue, menstrual problems and to strengthen the immune system. It can even help turn a breech baby before childbirth!

It is amazing stuff and my patients love it! 😊

What a beautiful day it is in St Neots! 😎🌿Today is the Spring Equinox, when both the northern and southern hemispheres experience equal amounts of day and night. 🌎☀️🌙That's what acupuncture is all about too, creating a balance of day (Yang) and night (Yin) in the body so that we feel well. 😊☯️
