Sharon Moore Equine

Sharon Moore Equine Coach and Equine Sports Massage Therapist I am a qualified Equine Sports Massage Therapist and BHS Stage 2 Coach, and am fully insured for all my services.

I am a member of the International Association of Animal Therapists and The British Horse Society which means that I do regular training to ensure that my skills and knowledge are up-to-date. New services will become available in future so keep a look out for updates and offers. I have been riding all of my life and decided to train for equine qualifications as part of a career change plan. I gained my BHS Stage 2 riding and care in 2015 (with distinctions), and then the Stage 3 care and lunge in 2016. I then focussed on competing my own horse before achieving the Stage 2 coaching in May 2022 and am now training for the Stage 3 coaching. and ride. I currently compete in endurance and wanted to be able to aid my horse's recovery after a long ride, and keep her in prime condition. Hence I decided to add massage therapy to my skills! I completed my Level 3 diploma in Equine Sports Massage and Rehabilitation Therapy at Meadowbrook Academy in May 2022 with 98% on the assessment day. Please contact me to find out how I can help you with your horse's performance and welfare through massage therapy, and through coaching in flatwork, jumping and groundwork. I am insured for lunging and groundwork if you need someone to do this for you. I am also insured to ride your horse but have decided to (temporarily) withdraw this service due to recovering from injury. I currently cover Staffordshire and can travel further for group bookings. https://iaat.org.uk/
https://www.bhs.org.uk/

Please note that horses need to be clean and dry for massage sessions. It is impossible to perform, and rather uncomfortable for them, if they are not. I also need an area to carry out massage protected from the elements as much as possible i.e. out of the rain or heat, and with sufficient space to perform massage and stretches safely. A stable is fine provided I can move around your horse safely. Loosely tied, or held, outside of the stable is also fine (dependent on weather!). I will ask you to walk and trot your horse for the initial assessment. Preferably a flat surface such as school or yard but we can work with whatever space you have available. Horses need to be registered with a vet prior to massage. You do not need vet permission for a massage unless there is an underlying health issue. I will take full history details during my initial assessment and ask that you sign a waiver that all relevant information has been given to me. Coaching can take place in any suitable area that you want to ride in e.g. field or school. Note that I do not have access to a school so you will need to book a school if required at your cost. I will coach in any weather provided it is safe to do so.

24h notice of cancellation is required for all services. Cancellation at short notice will incur a 50% fee.

Off peak parking at Birches Valley - that's week days during term time not school holidays currently.
Addressing one of the issues raised in the rider survey I circulated

Great news for Cannock Chase riders! 🐎

We are thrilled to announce that Birches Valley at Cannock Chase now has provision for off-peak horsebox parking! Another positive outcome from our current Cannock Chase National Landscape Farming in Protected Landscapes project.

The website has been updated, and there will be a permissive route from the parking area directly to the bridleways. Many thanks to the Foresty England Team at Cannock Chase.

We hope this provision will encourage riders who prefer or need facilities such as toilets nearby and address the requests for more secure-feeling parking from some riders in our survey.

Our Cannock Chase resource for horse riders is gathering pace! πŸš€

Our project lead, Sharon, has been a force of nature. She's been out in all weathers scouting routes and parking spots, and working closely with stakeholders to make sure every voice is heard. 🌧️

A massive THANK YOU to the 101 riders who shared their thoughts via our survey on the future of the Chase. Your feedback has been invaluable to the project, and the results are in! πŸ—ΊοΈ

πŸ’‘ Here’s what we’ve learned about how you ride πŸ’‘
β€’ Solo vs. social - while most enjoy a ride with friends, over half of you love the peace of a solo ride through the trees 🌲

β€’ The 10km sweet spot - 70% of you usually cover between 5–10km per ride πŸ“
β€’ Walk this way - a third of our community aren't just in the saddle, they're leading their horses on foot, too! 🚢
β€’ Go your own way - many of you know the Chase trails so well that you decide your route as you go πŸ—Ύ

πŸ›‘ The challenges πŸ›‘
Grab your neckstrap, it's not always a smooth ride... You’ve highlighted that loose dogs, road crossings, and busy sections are the biggest hurdles on the Chase trails right now.

πŸ’ The wish list πŸ’
We heard you loud and clear! You’re dreaming of:

βœ… Clearer waymarking & better maps
βœ… Dedicated parking with actual facilities
βœ… More grassy paths to explore
βœ… Educational info for other users of the chase

We’re taking all of this on board to make your experience of the Chase even better for you and your horses. What’s one thing that would make your next ride at Cannock Chase perfect? Let us know in the comments! πŸ‘‡

πŸ’š The project is funded by Cannock Chase National Landscape Farming in Protected Landscapes and BHS's Ride Out Fund. πŸ’š

πŸ“£If you’ve used roads with a horse or pony in the previous year, we would love to hear from you! It can be with your own or one you loan or share, or even one you only occasionally exercise. We would like to hear about your activity and experiences when using public roads together as well as your thoughts about road safety.

Who has a fire horse? My little Amber has a fire horse temperament. And I was born in a fire horse year 😊 She's been with me for almost two years now. She's as real sweetie, loves a fuss, always getting into mischief and a little sensitive to her surroundings. If she's worried I need to stand quietly and reassure her. I'm hoping to back her this year and restart my endurance journey. I had a little sit on her last year but waiting for some better weather as I don't have an arena, just a muddy field! I'll be sharing our journey πŸ₯°

Came across lots of deer today. This lot weren't bothered about my dogs. Fortunately they were both attached to my canicross harness so were calm and quiet. Saw deer all over the Chase, walked 13km and saw deer in five different locations. Plus lots as I was driving out. Might be a record for me in a single day!
How do your horses react to deer? Mine isn't bothered by them as they have often crossed our path on the Chase. The only time she worried was when two stags were clashing antlers...lots of prancing and a hasty exit from that area!
Another time a few deer ran in front of us being chased by a barking dog 😑 No owner in sight. My horse wasn't bothered but then they looped back round behind us with the barking dog still in pursuit. Cue some prancing!

Is your favourite local bridleway being obstructed and you’re not sure what to do, well not to fear the access team is here. πŸ¦ΈπŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ

Here are our recommended first steps you take:
🌲 Identify the location of the issue
🌲 Take photos of the issue if possible
🌲 Check the online map of rights of way in your county/authority area
🌲 Report the issue via the online reporting portal for the county/authority
🌲 Even if the problem has already been reported, REPORT IT AGAIN!
🌲 Allow the authority a reasonable time to respond to the report
🌲 Follow up the report if you do not receive a satisfactory response within a reasonable time
🌲 Raise with the Parish Council if you are dissatisfied with the response from the county/authority

If you’ve reported an issue and need further support, please email access@bhs.org.uk

The start of one of my favourite bridleways going up Cherryslade πŸ‡If you're lucky you might spot some deer. A couple were ahead of me, then several more appeared and headed up into the bracken. Just visible in second photo 🦌 The Chase is a rather large area and tricky to navigate but do use the OS app or plot a route before you go. We will have routes on the BHS website and OS in the future

One of the lovely grassy bridleways on my route today. Steep one in some sections but soft underfoot (or hoof πŸ˜‰). Checking a route for the British Horse Society / Cannock Chase National Landscape FiPL funded project. Couple of issues found elsewhere that I'll be reporting here: https://prow.staffordshire.gov.uk/standardmap.aspx
Anyone can register and report issues.

Final call for our survey of rider opinions as part of a Farming in Protected Landscapes Project (January-March 2026) that aims to produce mapped routes for riding on Cannock Chase and surrounding areas. These routes will use the existing bridleways with a view to improving access and assisting riders in making informed decisions about where it is permitted to ride on Cannock Chase. Parts of Cannock Chase are a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) protected by wildlife law and are impacted by visitors going off permitted routes. We’d love to hear your views and gather information whether you ride there regularly or occasionally. Deadline 30 January 2026.

Thanks to everyone that has filled this in so far. Just a few days left....deadline 30th Jan. After that I will collate the responses and feed back to relevant parties. Route planning is in progress and I will be out route checking this week hopefully.

I'm delighted to be working with British Horse Society on a mapping project at Cannock Chase. It is funded by a Farming in Protected Landscapes grant and run in conjunction with Cannock Chase National Landscape and the landowners - Cannock Chase Forest - Forestry England and Staffordshire County Council being the largest ones.

We have a short survey we'd appreciate horse riders, and those on foot with a horse, filling in whether you're a regular visitor or occasional visitor to the Chase. In particular let us know any favourite areas or problems that you encounter. https://forms.office.com/pages/responsepage.aspx?id=Pxp2YZ8PvUOozuOehIJNnmW0EY4ntSBKj1KTb-Vh0lxURVZLNFJQU1k2VjZGMDZTNjZGSlA0QlNTNS4u&route=shorturl

Deadline is 30th January
