Our Cannock Chase resource for horse riders is gathering pace! π
Our project lead, Sharon, has been a force of nature. She's been out in all weathers scouting routes and parking spots, and working closely with stakeholders to make sure every voice is heard. π§οΈ
A massive THANK YOU to the 101 riders who shared their thoughts via our survey on the future of the Chase. Your feedback has been invaluable to the project, and the results are in! πΊοΈ
π‘ Hereβs what weβve learned about how you ride π‘
β’ Solo vs. social - while most enjoy a ride with friends, over half of you love the peace of a solo ride through the trees π²
β’ The 10km sweet spot - 70% of you usually cover between 5β10km per ride π
β’ Walk this way - a third of our community aren't just in the saddle, they're leading their horses on foot, too! πΆ
β’ Go your own way - many of you know the Chase trails so well that you decide your route as you go πΎ
π The challenges π
Grab your neckstrap, it's not always a smooth ride... Youβve highlighted that loose dogs, road crossings, and busy sections are the biggest hurdles on the Chase trails right now.
π The wish list π
We heard you loud and clear! Youβre dreaming of:
β
Clearer waymarking & better maps
β
Dedicated parking with actual facilities
β
More grassy paths to explore
β
Educational info for other users of the chase
Weβre taking all of this on board to make your experience of the Chase even better for you and your horses. Whatβs one thing that would make your next ride at Cannock Chase perfect? Let us know in the comments! π
π The project is funded by Cannock Chase National Landscape Farming in Protected Landscapes and BHS's Ride Out Fund. π
