I grew these. We ate them last night in a hearty cottage pie with mushrooms, mixed frozen vegetables, minced pork and ready done mash. A hearty meal suitable for a tiny budget that left us all full, nourished and with that autumnal warmth that cottage pie delivers.
Ready made mash, 85p 3 for 2 from is a game changer. No peeling, no boiling, no mess, no waste. Fork it, top the cottage pie and bake. Much cheaper than boiling potatoes and faffing about, and super quick. Ingredients- no emulsifiers or nasties, just potato, milk, butter, salt and pepper.
Mixed vegetable medley also from ยฃ1.65 for a kg. No mess, no waste, excellent quality.
5% fat minced pork ยฃ2.55 for 500g. Makes a tasty, lower fat, cheaper alternative to minced beef, and no-one in my house can even tell the difference.
These hacks make cooking more accessible, more affordable and more nutritious, they're not ultra processed, and provide nourishing meals for families and individuals. Cooking for 1? Opt for frozen. The amount of widows and single adults who can't be bothered to make big meals when they're cooking for one, I understand that entirely, frozen hacks and smaller packs are your best option. Portion size to your preference, no waste, no hassle.
