Throw back to Chester Marathon 2021 - my very first marathon! I can honestly say, I was proud I got round.

With Chester marathon happening this weekend it really does hold a special place in my heart. It is where it all started. I did return for 2022 rematch and then again for the metric marathon in 2023.

There’s something special about running into Wales, the village support and those hills - mile 15 onwards! In all seriousness, it was an awesome experience, however things did go wrong:

1. My GPS went awol and did not pick up a signal - did not know what pace I was doing and it only clicked in at mile 20. No Strava kudos - I had to manually input and screenshot a friend’s map of the course, just to prove I completed it.

2. I over dressed and quietly cooked as the October sun turned the roads into lava.

3. Wore no sunscreen!

4. Did not realise how underweight I was until the race photos came through. I did not fuel enough in training. I did it. Completed it. But became very cold at the end, hence the foil blanket!

What I did do right was:

1. I stuck to a training plan

2. I had several sports massages which enabled me to feel refreshed, prepared and ready. I needed them as my body was not use to the high mileage.

3. I did not change anything before race day. I wore the same shorts, trainers and hydration vest. Yep. It gave me that security - I wanted to know I had enough on me to survive for days!

4. Watermelon and mango slices after a race is truly out of this world divine! Mega refreshing and just hits the spot - it is now my go to after each race!

5. I smiled all the way through - I did have a cry along the way - as the support was unreal - strangers calling your name and cheerleading you on, was humbling, kind and unexpected.

Your first marathon, they’ll be ups and downs and things will definitely challenge you. Logistics, kit or emotions - the best thing to do is to have thought ahead, prepared and accept, sometimes it doesn’t go to plan. You will run it, you will get the miles done, if you are smiling all the way through it - you are absolutely winning! You are a proper champion!

The Great North Run is just a week away - here are Symmetry’s 7 day countdown to getting you feeling your best at that start line.

You’ve trained hard put the days, hours and runs in - on the day the goal is to either to run those miles and tick off the mega achievement of 13.1 miles or to challenge yourself at a new pace to chase a time.

Which ever one you chosen - believe, hold your head high and remember your why.

The week leading up to any race can be daunting and where you feel you should be out running this week - you really should abide by that taper.

Relax. Rest. Eat. Hydrate. These 4 things are super important to focus on this week - either you are a seasoned racer or it is your first half. This should be your mantra for the week.

If you manage to get two short runs in this week at a no pressure easy pace, brilliant - it is good sometimes to use these runs as a ‘shake out’, ‘calming the nerves’ or just keeping the legs turning over.

If you take some, all or use this post as a reminder to take care of your body, because it will take care of you on race day! Both physically and mentally.

Soak up the atmosphere. Enjoy the build up and whip round the course knowing you have given yourself the best opportunity to achieve.

I will be rooting for every Symmetry client and cannot wait to hear about your success at your post race massages. It has been a pleasure keeping you in ‘tip top’ condition.

Simon is one determined soul. He has truly fallen ‘head over heels’ for the love of running. He’s always got a race that he is working towards, or has been seen running at track events.

This is someone who commits, works hard and truly surprises himself with the outcome. Simon is truly chipping away at those PB’s.

We first started chatting over our experiences of completing the Chester Marathon - and hit it off.

Running for Simon is special, and there is something about running those miles that really changes you personally. Simon thrives off this feeling and is a run coach for his local run club - getting people into running and helping them start their own run journeys.

A proper belter of a photo, it does really sum up Simon’s love for running. Running tall, smiling and thriving off the atmosphere - no matter how tough - he’ll be enjoying it.

What I adore about Simon, there is never a bad race - if there was, he will always find the positives before the negatives.

Simon is cheerleader of others, thrives on supporting others and runs with real purpose/passion. A proper champ!

thank you for being an awesome client .sportmassage - I really appreciate you and can not wait to see your success!

Same time. Same place. Same race. Different roles.

2021 was the year I first ran Staffs Knot 5 - you can see by the smile - I did not know the course - came in placing 33rd - 33:35

2022 marshalled on the course - it was awesome to cheer, celebrate and encourage runners before they descended into the narrow trails (no photo, sorry)

2023 rematch and my word it was haawwwttt - came in placing 61st 34:03

2024 I was in the race village and this was my second event - offering pre/post race massages - fresh out the box and hands at the ready

2025 back on the start line Symmetry vest on - honestly, who knew in 2021 that I’d be in my own kit - mind blown! Came in placing 66th 35:32

Keep your race photos, ALWAYS - I say this too often, but you must - it shows your journey. Also, it is awesome to give back at race and support. I don’t dwell on times - and yes it wasn’t my fastest - did I work hard, o yes I did, that is all that matters.

The biggest joy of the evening was celebrating .sportmassage clients - they were loads of you lacing up, and I know how hard that course is - proud of you all!

You got round - tick
On a Wednesday night too - tick
Did it with big smiles - tick
Celebrated at the end - tick
Loved hearing all about at your post race massages this week - mega tick tick

What a TEAM! What a RUN! What a FANTASTIC running community!

Last night saw the debut of Symmetry as a four - we’ve been wearing our shirts in many races, but tonight at the Stafford County Showground Relays - we came together to whip round in style, legging it round a 2 mile course!

Mixed tarmac, trails and grass - an evening slickly put on by
sportmassage was there with hands and couch at the ready - then a quick costume change to join the team on the last leg.

These people are truly superb - they are both friends and clients - they’ve all individually achieved so many amazing running goals. Bucket-list races, PB’s and sporting experiences - I’d never have thought 17 months ago, that we’d have a team with Symmetry’s logo appearing at some really excellent races!

52 mixed teams and we placed 8th - this is out of this world! We certainly ran our little socks off! Over 300 teams (different categories) nearly 1000 runners and countless running tents!

Anna, and - totally honoured to have you on this journey - your support has been tremendous.

Thank you for championing me!

Symmetry is back at the County Showground Relays. An awesome evening, slickly ran by - a cracking 2 mile course with a team of 4 mixed, ladies, men’s or vets teams all coming to enjoy an evening of running. All traffic free and enclosed on the grounds of the County Showground - a true delight.

It has been a whole year since Symmetry pitched up and it is awesome to be back.

Couch.
Hands at the ready.
Symmetry flags flying high.
And a mixed .sportmassage team of 4 ready to peg it round. Mega proud of this. Yes, I’ll be running too.

Either you are after a leg freshen up pre race or after, come and say, hello and jump on that couch. We will be taking card payments on the evening.

If you haven’t got a team ready, do it, there is time to gather your crew and lace up those kicks. Head over to the Stafford Harriers website - click races - and enter.

Look forward to massaging, running and cheering you all on! Wednesday 11th June, 7.30pm

If you read this far, Symmetry will also be back at the Staffs Knott 5 miler set on Cannock Chase - Wednesday 16th July

Keep your race 📸 They celebrate, document and are a reminder of your achievements.

I’m totally over the moon with enjoying the feeling of not knowing a course, being in a crowd of racers I don’t know and taking in the sights.

Sometimes taking the pressure off, works, it isn’t always about a shiny new PB, and it can totally be just being present and experiencing a new course.

You can always give it some welly too.

The craziest achievement in these 3 photos - is that I’m running in .sportmassage kit. Yes, this has blown my mind - 17 months ago - I would not have thought this. Joining a race with your logo, brand and design makes me unbelievably proud. I do pinch myself to check in, that this is really happening.

Ultimately, it is also down to the awesome crowd of clients, that share, recommend and promote this small business. That makes running in this vest that much more special. Thank you.

Photos from left to right - pounding the streets of Stafford at the Stafford half marathon. Followed by Birmingham half, which was a phenomenally well organised event and finally, the hottest race I’ve done, topping the Chester metric in 2023, is the Chester half. A scenic 13.2 miles but with a steep dash uphill to the finish line.

No PB’s, enjoying being in the moment and keeping those legs turning over. Plus it is nice to add a race T the collection too.

If you read this far - it is like a game of, spot the difference. All 3 are sprint finishes - no matter how I felt. I would tell myself this. Run tall. Look ahead. Finish proud. No matter your pace.

If your read even further and would like to secure your massage due to your training block, everyday office desk job or you’ve got an event coming up - DM or visit the website - link in bio 🙂 June and July are heating up with bookings.

Two couches are better than one - super excited to be working with Jarryd, from and to be in the race village for Cannock Chase half/full marathon - slickly ran by

Both .sportmassage and Jarryd will be there early doors with Symmetry flags high and hands at the ready to support all you trail runners, before or after your race.

You’ll be taking in the beauty of the Chase, as you run the ‘switch backs’, catch your breath on the downhill and navigating through narrow trails. Totally awesome memories to make and what a Saturday race achievement too.

The race is nearly sold out, which is phenomenal - and is looking to be a fine day!

Come and say hello, and jump on a couch and freshen up those legs - we will be taking card payments on the day.

If you read this far - Jarryd is awesome and we first met in March 2024, as Jarryd was/is a client who was preparing for his first marathon. Symmetry refreshed those legs in the height of high mileage weeks. Jarryd, successfully smashing it out of the park - as he ran Stratford marathon, gaining GFA for London 2025 - again, he put in a MEGA effort and gained a cracking, shiny and phenomenal PB, considering the heat.

Jarryd sure knows how to train, and hard!

Either it be catching up at local races or local run routes close to home - we both have been championing each other!

If you read even further, June is certainly filling up quick, with May being full to the rafters. Lots of local races happening, now is a good time to secure your massage post or pre - race DM or visit the link in bio 🙂

Everyone needs a Jason on their team. He really does put in a great effort on race day.

is a proper race day tour guide too - he’ll be able to tell you the twists, turns and what to look out for on most, if not all local races. I don’t think there is a race he hasn’t ran or been part of.

He will also, warn you about the amount of hills a course has too!

I’ve been working with Jason for exactly a year now, that is crazy to say, and it has been an absolute pleasure. Being able to tailor treatments specifically to his goals and training load in the week has been awesome. Also, to hear and see the tremendous effort he’s put into this year’s training block, for the London marathon.

Jason set a goal and he truly went for it.

Taking in consideration the heat of the day in London, Jason achieved a cracking new PB. Mega congratulations!

When asked to choose a photo that Jason was proud of - he chose this one. I know this sprint finish well, at the midlands road relays. A race where you can go all out and is a real team effort - right up Jason’s street.

Thank you, Jason, for being a totally awesome client .sportmassage you are truly valued, I look forward to being part of your running journey and look forward to keeping you in ‘tip top’ condition.

If you have read this far - my next event is Saturday 17th May - on Cannock Chase - supporting the half and full marathon. It promises to be a good one! If you are racing it, I look forward to seeing you.

May and June are filling up quickly, with some weeks fully booked. I wouldn’t want to disappoint. If you would like to secure your booking DM or visit the website - link in bio 🙂

Getting mentally prepared for a whopping 26.2 miles is harder than you think. You’re coming to the final stages of the training plan, tweaking your goals and trialing out the last bit of kit.

Doing some visualising and remembering your ‘why’ is so important. No matter what mile you are on - you might go ‘o gosh, this is tough,’ trust me it will happen. Having that reason, purpose and why, ready in your mind is an excellent way of overcoming that really tough ‘dig deep’ moment.

We’ve all got a reason, purpose and want to accept the challenge of entering these epic events.

Hold your head high and look ahead, how do you want to feel when you come to that last 400m finish line push.

Strong. Proud. Determined.

Manifesting this feeling is super important. It will give you that boost, confidence and more importantly the determination to achieve this feeling.

Yes, you’ll be shattered but you want to feel ecstatic on what you’ve achieved.

Lastly, how will you celebrate?

Having something to look forward to is a MUST. You’ve worked hard. It could be as simple as a glorious soda and lime, beer or pizza. Something that screams victory for you! Getting this booked in with friends and family, is one fine way of extending the achievements!

Finally, recovery - you will feel like the ‘tin man’, stairs will be tough! Booking a massage in the week after the event will be totally one way to say ‘thank you’ to your legs for getting you round. Securing a booking for after the event, will take the stress off, trying to book one - when everyone else needs their leg freshen up. Worth doing ahead. I’ve been there.

Symmetry is totally rooting for all current clients and future clients involved in these epic events.

Couch. Hands. Will all be ready to support you.

If you would like to book in, DM or visit the website - link in bio 🙂

O my word! What a Sunday. Stafford half and Ashby 20 - my mind is blown! 15 months ago I would never have dreamt that Symmetry race vests would be pounding the tarmac of Stafford town!

Stafford half, always a tough course, with an added subway run thrown in to add an obstacle of tight turns and steep climbs to exit.

it always is a pleasure to run with you, and I’m honoured to have you as a clients, friends and running cheerleaders!

Proper smashed it, and some really surprising times for all of us. As we all know, running is a journey and we certainly all dug deep.

Anna Louise was out completing with many laps as part of her and training! Again, really superb results and a champion of .sportmassage

A real appreciation for these runner beans - who just effortlessly enjoy, work hard and get it done in style.

If you read this far, London and Manchester are creeping up - if you are need of a pre or post freshen up DM or visit the website - link in bio 🙂

O my word, this runner bean is phenomenal! If you know or have met Julie - she is one epic lady. If you haven’t met Julie, you need Julie on your team! She will celebrate, cheerlead and really get you through a tough run.

I am absolutely honoured that Julie took out .sportmassage race vest for another debut at the Chester 10K, and will be worn at the and finally finishing the Chester triple, with the half and full marathon.

Julie knows how to throw herself into a challenge - she trains hard and she’s really good at it too. A superb combination of varied running (trails and road) and strength and body conditioning. Proper strong!

It has and always is a pleasure working with Julie, and I’m over the moon to be part of her running journey.

Very much a celebration and appreciation post of what a truly terrific client, Julie is. Thank you!
