Manchester. Boston. London. 3 super big marathons. The training is tough going. The race is the icing on the cake. The training is the celebration.

This is your time to celebrate, enjoy and soak up the atmosphere. Yes, shiny PB’s are great but having a blast and making memories will last longer.

The crowd will be your greatest cheerleader. Use them. Embrace it. Wave. Smile. Run tall. You will be truly terrific.

If you do PB totally tell people about it, but also tell them how good the race was. How you felt. What is like to be there. The support.

As you will most definitely inspire, spark and your ‘good time’ might be the only encouragement they need to sign up and run a marathon.

Getting your race day medals in order is a great strategy to have. A great tactic to use if the second half of your race, is going to plan or maybe not how you hoped.

This is okay. These things happen.

Race day can be unpredictable, but trying to keep the mind occupied with goals and keeping them simple too. Works.

Don’t over complicate the medals. Bronze will always be, to get round. The silver and the gold could be about consistency, hitting a desired pace at each K or mile.

I’ve even used my medals to how I want it feel.

Finish strong. With a smile. Not feel sick at the finish line.

Yep, sometimes we can push ourselves too much on race day. You don’t want your memory of the race where you become super poorly.

This strategy has comfortably worked for me and it might be something to trial on your race day.

I’m here for the training, but I’m also totally here for the recovery too. You are disciplined to train, but you need the same discipline in your recovery process and needs.

Massage.
Sleep.
Fuel.
Coffee dates.
Naps.
Siestas.
Cake.
Seeing friends and family.
Sofa sitting.
Reading a book.
Massage.

These will help your body restore, strengthen and heal so you are ready for next big milestone, swim or adventure.

Long run. Done. Race bib. Arrived. The taper weeks before the big day. You will be truly amazing. I wish I could share more positive highlights that has come from entering marathons. I’d be needing a 20+ gram carousel.

You will mostly certainly be proud of the…

The training.
The time spent on your feet.
The people you meet.
The friends you make.
The kit you trial out.
The consistency.
The I’m not going to give up moments.
The I’m not going to fail.
The no more early morning runs.
The no more late evening runs.
The I’m stronger than I thought.
The determination that grips you.
The challenge which seemed so far away is now in your grasp.

Be proud. Run tall. Remember your why. You are absolutely champion.

If you read this far, working with London and Manchester marathoners is amazing. Hearing their stories, reasons and goals is inspiring. Also, their training too - either their first, second or sixth - we all learn something new from challenging ourselves. I just need to run a marathon in Symmetry’s race kit 🧡🩷🩵

Starting fresh. Staring over. Restarting. Just starting. These are the biggest achievements. We learn. You move forward. Be proud of the firsts and the journey it takes you.

Each new client. Each regular client. Those clients that have been with me from the start. You have seen this journey evolve. Thank you for being truly awesome.

You make this little side quest the most enjoyable!

If you read this far and thinking, I need to book in. I’m taking bookings from May - these marathoners are certainly needing some TLC. DM or visit the website. Link in bio.

Well what a hoot of a run. It was so blinking awesome seeing so many Symmetry clients BP and get round with the biggest smiles. Made my day chatting to you all, as we debriefed on the new course route.

The sun surely had its hat on!

Went out for consistency and wanted each mile close to that 7 minute mark. We quietly did that and sat comfortably between the 1.30 and 1.40 pacers. It was really refreshing to take the pressure off and just enjoy a race - no commitment, no pace goals and no running on empty.

These legs have still got it.

A new course that seemed to feel quicker and more of a route you can chunk rather than thinking, I’ve got this stretch to do. Shorter segments, chunked and small bites - enough to keep the brain working.

Always awesome running with a real grafter and amazes me each time - he just knows how to race, and well too. A proper Symmetry OG

If you read this far Manchester and London is happening very soon. April and May is certainly hot months for maintenance and keeping you runners in ‘tip top’ condition. If you are wanting to lock a date in - DM or visit the website - link in bio.

True story. My first event I begged, stole and borrowed my equipment. Friends and family rallied round. A gazebo ready for the skip, an A frame borrowed from a friend and armed with insta print business cards.

Starting out at events solo, to eventually reaching out and working with some really skilled therapists. This is where events became easier, we had a team - knowledgeable, skilled and all round nice people. Who were happy to pitch up with no guarantee anyone would jump on our couches.

O but they did!

I’m so proud of Symmetry, 7 events - 2 of those for charity. Either being part of, or solely responsible for pitching up in the race village with our flags pitched up high. Not shabby for being over 2 years old.

Events really do build community - seeing people at the start line and wishing them luck, to admiring their finish medal. To even discussing the course while you sooth their legs.

These events are magic and it is nice to see repeat racers hopping on and thanking you for the support.

We will be at Merrell Cannock Chase Challenge - 10K, half and full marathon. If you are signed up look forward to seeing you there.
