🧠 Scientists have discovered a remarkable way to double the brain’s waste clearance system—not with drugs or surgery, but simply by massaging the skin.

A team from the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) has shown in mice that gently stimulating the lymphatic vessels under the skin of the face and neck can dramatically boost cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow. This process helps flush out toxins and waste products from the brain, including harmful proteins linked to Alzheimer’s disease. Using a specially designed mechanical stimulator, researchers restored CSF drainage to youthful levels in aged mice, suggesting a safe, non-invasive strategy to improve brain health.

Even more exciting, the study mapped previously unknown drainage routes from the brain to superficial lymph nodes through facial lymphatics—pathways that remain active even in older animals. This discovery completes the anatomical picture of CSF outflow and hints at future wearable or clinical devices designed to enhance brain cleansing.

While more research is needed before human applications, this gentle mechanical approach may open the door to new therapies aimed at preventing or slowing neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

Great article here around bone health for women 💪

More than half the women in the UK over the age of 50 will suffer a fracture. But can more awareness – and some heavy lifting – help us beat many of the effects of osteoporosis?

Exciting research into MS and potential solutions 🙂

Exciting research into MS and potential solutions 🙂

In a groundbreaking study, scientists have pinpointed two specific gut bacteria that may play a direct role in triggering multiple sclerosis (MS) — a finding that could pave the way for new treatments or even prevention strategies.

👥 Researchers at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich studied 81 identical twin pairs — where one twin had MS and the other did not — and uncovered striking differences in their gut microbiomes.

🚨 The suspects?

Eisenbergiella tayi and Lachnoclostridium — bacteria found in much higher levels in the twins with MS. When introduced into mice, these microbes caused MS-like symptoms.

💡 It’s the most compelling evidence yet connecting gut health to MS. By manipulating the microbiome, we may be able to halt or slow the progression of this autoimmune disease.

The gut-brain axis just became even more critical to understanding neurological health.

Keeping you moving

Hi, I am Jocelyn and I believe that massage therapy can be beneficial for everyone. My brand of sport and remedial massage has a holistic focus, always working closely with clients to tailor the approach and treatment to individual client need. I strongly believe in the importance of treating the person as a whole, rather than just an injury or condition whilst attempting to dispel the “no pain, no gain” stereotype of sports massage.

I am a lifelong sport enthusiast, both competing and following a number of sports, I currently play touch rugby, tennis and enjoy Muay Thai boxing. I have first-hand experience of the benefits of massage to relieve sporting stretches and strains.

I have been practicing Holistic Massage for 3 years, holding a Level 5 Sport and Remedial Massage Therapy Diploma from the Massage Training Institute (MTI). In addition, I am qualified in Hot Stone Massage, a technique which can be used to support relaxation as well as targeting any niggles.
