Have you met Jack?

Meet Jack.

Jack experiences the world a little differently. We follow Jack’s journey to better understand how neurodivergence can affect communication, behaviour and the way people interact with the world around them.

Too often, behaviours linked to neurodivergent conditions such as autism or ADHD are misunderstood. When we take the time to understand what someone might be experiencing, we can respond with greater empathy, patience and support.

“Understand Jack: A Lesson in Neurodivergence” is part of the Neuro-Verse project, helping professionals and communities recognise neurodiversity and make small changes that can make a big difference for neurodivergent people.

This Neurodiversity Celebration Week, take a few minutes to watch Jack’s story and reflect on how understanding neurodiversity can help create more inclusive services and communities.

Neurodiversity is particularly important to recognise within the criminal justice system.

Research shows that between 60–90% of young people in custody have a learning difficulty, speech or communication need, or other neurodivergent condition.

Understanding these needs is vital to ensuring people receive the right support and are able to engage effectively with services.

During Neurodiversity Celebration Week, we highlight the importance of recognising neurodiversity and providing compassionate, person-centred support.

ADHD affects attention, focus and impulse control — but it can also bring strengths such as creativity, energy and problem-solving.

Around 4% of people in the UK have ADHD, although many people remain undiagnosed.

Understanding neurodiversity helps us create services that are more accessible, supportive and responsive to people’s individual needs.

Autism is a natural part of human diversity.

Around 700,000 people in the UK are autistic, each with their own strengths, experiences and support needs.

By improving understanding and adapting services to be more inclusive, we can help ensure autistic people feel respected, understood and supported.

This Neurodiversity Celebration Week, we’re recognising the importance of awareness, acceptance and inclusion.
