In this interview we discuss the relationship between hypothyroid symptoms and hidden thiamine deficiency, why tests are not accurate, and how thiamine can sometimes address nervous system dysregulation, gut issues and a whole host of other symptoms.
During my healing journey with Hashimoto’s, fatigue was one of my most significant symptoms. I also had low blood pressure. One of my physicians said “No wonder you’re so tired, your blood pressure is so low!” And then I discovered thiamine and my fatigue resolved and my blood pressure normalized!
In this week’s episode of the Thyroid Pharmacist Healing Conversations Podcast, I sit down with thiamine expert and nutritional therapist Elliot Overton to uncover what might be one of the most underrecognized root causes of thyroid fatigue, gut issues, POTS, and more: thiamine deficiency (vitamin B1).
Even if you’re eating a nutrient-rich diet, chronic stress, medications (like metronidazole), alcohol, gut inflammation, and even tea can block your body from absorbing or using thiamine properly. And guess what? Most standard tests won’t catch it.
Inside this episode, you'll learn:
- Why thiamine deficiency is often functional or localized—not detectable by blood tests
- How thiamine powers your mitochondria, brain, and gut
- Why symptoms like fatigue, dizziness, constipation, and brain fog may all tie back to low B1
- The best forms of thiamine: benfotiamine (for nerve pain + energy), TTFD (for gut + POTS), and sulbutiamine (for focus + mood)
- Why high-dose thiamine (600–1800 mg/day) can be a game-changer—sometimes overnight
- How to prevent side effects by combining it with magnesium, potassium, and a full B-complex
If you’ve tried everything and still feel off, this episode could be the missing piece. Thiamine changed my life, and I’ve seen it do the same for countless others.
