Lower back pain? Why do we check your pelvic alignment and shoulder symmetry first you may wonder? Rather than your specific area of pain 🤔🧐. Well this image is pretty self explanatory why if you have a close look. The majority of the time the location of your pain is different to that of the cause(s). Particularly in chronic cases, there are other dysfunctions or/and imbalances possibly worsening over time. Whilst we are unlikely to be completely symmetrical, which is completely okay, when the dissimilarities are too much things need to be addressed.

After most of us have had a lot of sitting, laying and probably walking but definitely not as much physical activity as we are used to, it's important that we get back to doing more but also that we don't overstress this for ourselves.
It can be really stressful and even degrading to find you feel so far away from your goals again and have gone backwards on your journey, whether this be with your sport performance, weight loss or injury recovery etc. Remember YOU will get there again it, will just take time ⏰.
If you're feeling super anxious, maybe your mental health isn't doing too well, have a lot of increased stress going on in your life or even other issues are taking your times priority, don't rush jumping back in the full swing of things if you can't! Likewise don't sit there waiting for things to happen, because they won't, put in the effort but take the time you need to avoid placing added pressure on yourself. You'll get there 💪🏻

Along with educating yourself on nutrition, exercise form, weight loss, getting hench and all of that goodness. You really need to learn about your body. I don’t mean how much can you deadlift or how far can you run, I mean what muscles allow you to do those exercises? What makes you move?!
Understanding what exactly moves your body is one of the most beneficial factors you can add to your training, daily life and especially injury recovery! For instance, by being aware of where and what your hip muscles are, you can realise how important your glutes are to everything. How you may be inadequately using them during squatting, therefore causing your quadriceps to overwork and potentially a lower back injury/pain.
No you don’t need to become a therapist overnight, but yes looking over some photos such as these and seeing what’s underneath your skin can massively open your mind enhancing your training and results.
~As a therapist it always makes my job easier when a client is interested and open to learning more about their own body, as once you leave the room it’s down to you to put in the extra work and put my advice to use!
