Then & Now 🖤

In 1883, funerals looked very different. Horse-drawn hearses, hand-written notices, small local gatherings.

Today, we help families plan services with photo tributes, favourite songs, personal touches like football shirts, motorbikes, or memory tables filled with treasures.

But beneath all the changes, one thing is exactly the same:

Families still need someone they can trust.

From our founder in 1883, right through to his great-great-great-granddaughter, Cassie and her team today, our promise has always been simple: to look after your loved one as we would our own.

Thank you to every family who has trusted us with someone they love. It is, and always has been, a privilege.

On Friday, we had the profound privilege of conducting the funeral service for Martin, a husband, father, son, brother and dedicated paramedic whose spirit touched the lives of all who knew him.

Throughout the service, we were reminded of the extraordinary love and strength that Martin embodied. His selflessness, courage, and commitment to serving others were the true hallmarks of his character. He exemplified compassion and bravery from boy to man.

We were deeply moved as Martin's colleagues formed a guard of honour, paying tribute to his service. Their solemn salute was a poignant reminder of the profound impact Martin had on his community.

Our hearts ache for his beautiful wife and his precious five-year-old son, who now carry the weight of his absence.

Days like these remind us that we must cherish each moment, hug our loved ones a little tighter, and live with a renewed sense of purpose and gratitude. For in honouring Martin's legacy, we honour the preciousness of every life.

Martin was one of life's 'good ones' a beautiful soul, and one who's light we will forever carry forward.

Have you heard about the National Day of Reflection on 23 March?

It’s to mark one year from the start of the UK lockdown and to support all the people who’ve been bereaved in that time.

To take part you can join the national minute's silence at 12 noon, shine a light on your doorstep at 8pm, and reach out to anyone you know who’s having a tough time. There are colouring in sheets you can put in your window to show support, and also some free online talks with grief experts and celebs. Visit the Marie Curie website to find out more.

On 23 March, let's come together to reflect on our collective loss, support those who’ve been bereaved, and hope for a brighter future.

Remember every memory, everything that made you laugh and all the small things that remind you of that special loved one, talk about them, talk to them and when you do smile and remember all the love you shared together.
