Today is World Sleep Day 😴 and, "How well are you sleeping?" is often one of the first questions I ask my health coaching clients. Because while most people acknowledge that a healthy lifestyle, good diet and regular exercise are all necessary for maintaining our health, an adequate amount of sleep is equally as important, and is all too frequently overlooked.

Undeniably without enough sleep, the human body quickly suffers; too little sleep can affect your metabolism, mood and brain function and is implicated in the development of many diseases.

Research has shown that sleep deprivation affects the brain in a similar way to drinking alcohol. To put this into perspective getting less than 6 hours of sleep impairs your brain function in the same way as drinking two bottles of beer. Source: Sleepstation

Aromatherapy is a pleasant and natural way to improve your sleep quality, particularly by inhaling lavender oil before bed, you can do this by either adding a few drops of organic essential oil to an oil burner and allowing the scent to fill your room or by massaging a pre-blended aromatherapy massage oil into your skin after a warm bath.

Do you have days when you're running from one task to the next without even taking a moment to breathe?

Treating unmanaged stress and anxiety is important for better mental health, and physical health, because inflammation builds up from stress, and inflammation can lead to chronic conditions.

When you are stressed and anxious this builds tension throughout your body. Your brain reacts to thoughts of fear and anxiety causing your muscles to tense up. Muscle tension is almost a reflex reaction to stress β€” your body's way of guarding against injury and pain, to brace for a moment that is not happening.

Remember to take timeout throughout the day to consciously breathe. I always ask my clients at the beginning of a massage to focus on their breathing, we start by taking three slow and steady breaths. Try it with me ☺️
