Minibus outing 🚐🚐

This week we didn’t travel far, we went to a local coffee morning in the village.

The residents were very warmly welcomed, and enjoyed refreshments served by the volunteers.
They engaged in conversation and soon realised they had so much in common with others in attendance.

A visit to remember

Ketton pre school came to visit this week and the residents had tremendous fun interacting with them.

The little children sang some wonderful songs to entertain everyone, with actions as well.

The children enjoyed playing with our toys and playing ball games all the residents hope they come back soon. Thank you so much to Ketton Pre School we are truly grateful.

International men’s day

On Wednesday at Chater Lodge, came together for international men’s day.

International Mens Day, is a global event celebrating men and boys, positive role models, and men's health and wellbeing. Chater Lodge ‘s gents met in the cafe area for a men only meeting where our gentleman had the best afternoon talking health, football, food and reminiscing fond memories.

Resident’s Dennis and Michael said "it's nice to have a laugh, enjoy a pint or two and with the lads"

A fun afternoon was had by all.

Little Darwin’s visit

Brenda Depear came to visit with Darwin the therapy Pony which gave so much joy to the residents and children that visited on that day. The Chater Lodge team also wanted to meet Darwin.

Darwin certainly earns his keep as he is very busy visiting care homes, visits people with brain injuries and also motor bike accident patients . He also helps people with drugs and alcohol conditions.

Thank you Brenda for bringing Darwin to see us and spreading so much happiness to our home.

Every week we would like to introduce you to a member of the Chater Lodge Family.

We would like to introduce, Antony our brilliant Head of Maintenance.

"Hi, My name is Antony but everyone calls me Tony, I am Head of Maintenance at Chater Lodge. I have been working at Chater Lodge since January 2023. I work closely with the General Manager and Deputy Manager to make changes within the home that will benefit our resident’s.

In my spare time I am part of an amateur dramatics group and enjoy singing various songs, I was also part of a Rat pack group, you will often find me singing to entertain our resident’s".

Let’s dance the afternoon away💃

The residents had a wonderful afternoon dancing to all the trendy pop songs enjoying the music by the marvellous Annie Love.

Annie let the residents join in singing on the microphone to add to the fun.

Annie sang have ‘I told you lately that I love you’
And ‘Easy like Sunday Morning’ also singing more upbeat numbers such as ‘ Give it up baby give it Up ‘

🥧MAKING JAM TARTS🥧

Yesterday at Chater Lodge we weren’t afraid to roll up our sleeves and get stuck in! We spend a lovely morning rolling out our sweet pastry to make the most beautiful jam tarts! Everyone had a turn and used very generous amounts of jam which just helped make them the very best!

After all our work was done our lovely kitchen staff helped us bake them in the oven and we were able to enjoy them as an afternoon snack with a cup of tea!

Activities like these allow our residents to enhance their motor skills and using their hands and can also add a lovely reminiscence aspect for some!☺️

Residents, patients and colleagues got into the Halloween spirit of things by creating beautiful autumnal displays with painted and carved pumpkins, flowers and wreaths.

Many of our care homes and hospitals hosted fun-filled Halloween events with delicious treats, mocktails, live music entertainment, costume competitions and community celebrations.

It's safe to say that everyone had a spooktacular time. 👻

👻🎃 Bewitching Tricks and Spooky Treats 👻🎃

Springvale Court Care Home, in Wrekenton, , was a den of ghoulish activity as the home’s spooky Halloween Adams Family got into full swing.

Colleagues embraced the spirit of Halloween by dressing up as The Addams Family. Morticia, Gomez, Pugsley, Wednesday, Uncle Fester, Cousin Itt and Lurch all visited Trinity Square in Gateshead town centre to hand out goodie bags for children and adults, and everyone had the opportunity to have their photo taken with the Addams Family.

General Manager, Gemma Rooney, shared: “Our staff love any excuse for fancy dress day! – we’ve all had a brilliant time.”

The team at Springvale Court commented: “It has been such a fun day. It was wonderful to see everyone go to so much effort to get into the Halloween spirit. And seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces’’.

🔍 Thursday Night Murder Club at Caldy Manor 🕵️‍♀️

It was an evening to remember at Caldy Manor Care Home on the as residents, colleagues and friends from Heswall & District Ladies Circle turned detectives, suspects and stars in the home’s very own Thursday Murder Club-themed evening.

Inspired by Richard Osman’s much-loved mystery novels, there were hilarious plot twists and some truly Oscar-worthy performances, the night was packed with laughs and fantastic acting from everyone involved.

A huge thank you to all, the experience was a roaring success.

Safe to say… no one saw the ending coming! 😉

🏅 Silver Success for Hugh Myddelton at Enfield in Bloom 2025 🌸

We’re happy to share that Hugh Myddelton House Care Home in won Silver in the Best Communal Gardens category at the Enfield in Bloom 2025.

The team proudly received their certificate from the Mayor of Enfield, Margaret Greer, at the Chickenshed Theatre – a joyful moment for everyone involved.

A big thank you to all who helped make the gardens so beautiful this year, especially volunteer Pat and Resident Ambassador Rosa.

Jade Shea, General Manager at the home, said: “Our garden is not just a beautiful space it’s a source of comfort, activity and pride for everyone here. This award belongs to our entire community who have worked so hard to make it flourish.”

The Enfield in Bloom competition, held annually, honours the best in gardening and environmental efforts across the borough.

🎉 Rose Water Place Supports Local Fishing Charity 🎉

Rose Water Place Care Home in recently presented Cast A Thought charity with a cheque for £1,260 in support of their Fish and Chat project, which promotes mental health and wellbeing through the therapeutic benefits of angling.

Cast A Thought CIC empowers children, young people and adults through accessible and inclusive fishing activities that encourage mental wellness and connection with nature.

Colleagues and residents welcomed Dave and Helen from Cast A Thought to a small gathering at the home to celebrate and hand over the cheque, awarded on behalf of Barchester's Charitable Foundation.

Hadrian Rodriguez, General Manager at Rose Water Place, shared: “We are always keen to show as much support as we can to local charities and Cast A Thought ensures that every cast of the line brings hope, healing and togetherness in the community.”
