Rare and very special Birthday celebrations 🎂🎉

At Tallington Lodge, we had double the reason to celebrate this week. As the world marked the 100th birthday of the legendary naturalist David Attenborough, we were also honouring a very special milestone much closer to home.

Our wonderful resident Ted reached his own centenary on the very same day—making it a truly remarkable shared birthday. Surrounded by friends, staff, and celebration, Ted shared his advice for life:

“Whatever you decide to do in life, make sure you do it well—and with passion.”

The celebrations were made even more special as fellow residents created a beautiful 100th birthday card for Ted, which was proudly presented by Joan, who has also reached the incredible milestone of 100.

Ted also received a birthday card from His Majesty the King, marking this very special occasion, and in return, he shared his own birthday message for Sir David Attenborough—one centenarian to another.

While Sir David has spent a lifetime telling the story of our planet, we feel just as privileged to celebrate Ted’s incredible life, filled with his own achievements, memories, and wisdom.

We were also delighted that this special shared milestone was featured by the Stamford Mercury, helping us share Ted’s wonderful story with the wider community.

Today was a beautiful reminder that a diagnosis does not define a person 💛

We had the pleasure of welcoming one of our gentlemen, Norman back into the kitchen — a former chef who resided in Spain, very much in the spirit of Keith Floyd, always enjoying a little drink while he cooked 🍷 With passion, flair, and a love for cooking that clearly never fades, he spent the morning preparing sandwiches for tea time and even created a delicious Mediterranean dish.

Moments like these show just how important it is to nurture purpose and keep passions alive for those living with dementia. While memory may change, identity, skills, and lifelong interests remain deeply rooted. By reconnecting with familiar routines and meaningful activities, we can spark confidence, reduce anxiety, and bring real joy to someone’s day.

It’s not just about keeping busy — it’s about preserving dignity, celebrating individuality, and reminding each person that they are still capable, valued, and very much themselves.

We had a fantastic time over the bank holiday weekend supporting the Uffington Village Scarecrow Festival! 🌾 Uffington Village Lincolnshire Uffington Lincs

We spent a couple of weeks working hard to prepare our scarecrow, which was themed around Sir David Attenborough as part of the village-wide celebration of his 100th birthday. Ours, of course, featured our mascot giraffe—something we’re well known for—making it a perfect fit for both the theme and our identity. 🦒

Our residents had a lovely time meeting everyone from the village. They really enjoyed exploring, seeing all the wonderful scarecrows, and taking part in everything the festival had to offer. There were so many creative and interesting things to see and do—it was a truly special weekend for all involved!

As it’s Pet Therapy Month, we also spent some time meeting and feeding the alpacas 🦙—the residents absolutely loved spending time with the fluffy bunch! 🦙

Ready, steady, bake….

What a brilliant (and slightly messy!) day we had upstairs 😄

Everyone got stuck in making their own afternoon tea—scones, cupcakes, jam sandwiches, cheese & cucumber… a proper spread! There was flour flying, a bit of guesswork with the recipes, and lots of helping hands. Plenty of laughs along the way too.

It was lovely to see everyone working together, supporting each other and just enjoying being part of it. Moments like this really matter—keeping hands busy, sharing a purpose, and having a good giggle together.

And of course, the best bit… sitting down afterwards to enjoy it all! A well-earned cuppa (and even a cheeky beer for some 🍺) while tucking into their own homemade treats—nothing tastes better than something you’ve made yourself.

David’s Wish 🌟

We had the privilege of supporting David in a deeply meaningful wish — a special visit to spend precious time with his brother, Charles.

We travelled to Sleaford Manor, where we were warmly welcomed by his brother’s family. What followed was a truly beautiful afternoon, filled with togetherness, warmth, and connection. Surrounded by loved ones, David and his brother shared quiet moments side by side, holding hands, reminiscing, and simply enjoying being in each other’s presence.

The room was filled with laughter, smiles, and an overwhelming sense of love. While there were certainly emotional moments, the day was defined by joy, closeness, and the comfort of family coming together.

It was a heartfelt and unforgettable experience, and we are so honoured to have helped make this wish possible 💙

Coffee morning at the Tallington village hall!

Once a month on a Thursday we support the Tallington Village Hall with their coffee morning! It’s a lovely gathering where all of the community come together and get to know each other! Our residents absolutely love meeting everyone and having a chat, some cake and a cuppa! Sometimes we even have a bit of a boogie!
