❗️Always ask the question if you think someone is considering su***de, it won’t make them more likely to do it.

❗️Always take someone seriously if they say they’re suicidal - it could save their life.

❗️If you’re the one struggling you are loved, there is support out there for you. Get in touch if you need support.

If someone you know is suicidal or you think they might be it is ok to ask, you will not put it in their head by asking.

You can say something like, are you having thoughts of su***de and if the answer is yes, you need to find out if they have a plan in place to see what support they need and how quickly e.g GP or 999.

Some tips for talking are -

🔹 Find the right time and place somewhere nice and quiet.
🔹Ask open questions like - you don’t seem yourself, what can I do to help?
🔹Offer reassurance let them know they are not alone and you are there.
🔹Be patient this might be the first time this person has opened up.
🔹 Leave silences for the person to think and respond.
🔹Don’t make false promises to minimise someone’s pain by saying things like - it’s all in your head, I know how you feel.
🔹Offer information about services as there are lots support services out there.

What to do if you’re feeling suicidal -

🔹Reach out - tell a trusted friend or family member, phone 111, go to your GP or crisis team if you have one or phone a helpline. You are not alone. Samaritans are open 24hrs a day 116123.
🔹Get to a safe place.
🔹Stay away from drugs and alcohol.

REMEMBER -

🔹You will be missed.
🔹There is help out there.
🔹Your emotions aren’t fixed they are constantly
changing.
🔹There are still things you can accomplish and
experience.
🔹Your capacity to experience positive emotions is equal to your capacity to experience negative ones.
🔹These feelings are almost always temporary.
🔹YOU CAN GET THROUGH THIS.
