🎅🎄MERRY CHRISTMAS ☃️❄️

Merry Christmas to all our residents, team members, families, loved ones and everyone from The Elms!

We've done some fantastic Christmas events in December, starting with our Christmas Fayre at the start of the month that was a huge success!

We headed into Christmas week with a great Christmas party, where Mansell sung to us whilst we ate food provided by our amazing head chef and spent time with our loved ones.

We've had a great Christmas month and are getting ready to head into 2025 with a bang!

🎅⭐️ CHRISTMAS FAYRE ❄️🍬

A massive thank you to everyone who came and supported our Christmas Fayre last week. It was a fantastic event at Staunton Village hall. It was so good that even "the big man himself", Santa, made a special appearance!

It was well-attended by residents, loved ones, visitors, the community and the team and we're so grateful to every single person who came and supported us. We raised an amazing £312, which will go towards the residents activities.

📝⭐ Successful Inductions 💚👩‍⚕️

A huge well done to our care assistants Vickie Head and Lucy Baker, who passed their inductions recently!

Both started with us in July/August and have been working through our new induction scheme. It's a pleasure and honour to be able to sign them off as "completed" and have them as completely established members of the team!

Vickie came to us with no prior care experiences, but has won residents, family members and the team over with her kind and generous nature, always wanting to do the best for people. She previously wanted to be a nurse, but has since decided that working at the Elms, providing hands-on care is the right role for her!

Lucy brings a wealth of experience, having worked in care for a long time. She has history with The Elms, as mum Jayne works here as a domestic assistant. Having already completed her level 5 health and social care qualification, Lucy has fitted into the team, bringing efficiency and new ideas into the role. You will see her mixing things up between caring and administering medication.

Well done, both!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ FIVE STAR RATING ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

A massive well done to head chef Tina and our kitchen team for achieving another five-star food hygiene rating from Environmental Health today!

Everything was perfect, from the tidiness of the kitchen, quality of food preparation, the paperwork and everything else the inspector looked at.

Thank you, Tina, it's an incredible achievement and we're all really proud of you.

🏆 Award Win🏆

Written by home manager Ben Miller:

Something happened before I came to The Elms that knocked my confidence. I don't really like blowing my own trumpet publicly anymore, I would much rather give the team the credit it's due for the hard work and effort that they put in. Social care is very much a team effort and I can't achieve much at The Elms without the team around me.

That being said, last Thursday I attended the Great British Care Awards, shortlisted for the "Care Manager of the Year" award. I kept it a secret from pretty much everyone. In the past I would have sung it loud and proud, but this year I haven't felt that I've deserved it.

The nomination was for a combination of some of the work I did in my previous job, the work I've done in my short tenure at The Elms and the little-known work I do in my spare time, coaching and mentoring other managers and leaders in social care for free. I believe that some of those people I mentor have achieved or done greater things than me this year and deserve more recognition than I do.

Regardless, I won Highly Commended at the awards! There were an incredible sixteen other managers in my category, so to achieve that award is a massive honour and one I will treasure forever.

When I took over as manager of The Elms, I promised the owners there would be awards and success and everything else that comes with outstanding care standards. I had no idea that I would win the first of those awards, but I'm proud and I know that others in the team can and will achieve similar.

The team is just getting started, things will get even better and I'm grateful to everyone associated with The Elms for making me so welcome these last five months and for trying to buy into the things I want to do.

❄️☃️ SNOW DAY ❄️☃️

Whilst everyone living at The Elms stays warm inside, enjoying Mindsong singing to them and lots of hot drinks, here are some photos of our beautiful home and surrounding area in the snow.

A massive thank you to everyone working at The Elms and in health and social care who has braved the weather today. Conditions aren't great, but care never stops!

☕🫖 Lydney Memory Cafe 🍺🎤

We're always keen to get out and about and enjoy local community events. Last week Lorraine went out with Liz, Peter, Jean, Mary and Marion to the Lydney Memory Cafe!

We always have fun when we go to the café! There are always lots of activities to enjoy and this week we had singing, dancing and winning raffle prizes as Marion took back a can of ale! "I'm saving this one!" she told us, when asked when she was going to drink it.

To cool off after all the partying, the group took a side trip to Mallard's Pike to enjoy the beautiful autumnal scenery - it's fantastic having so many great places to visit virtually on our doorstep!

🎧🎼 MUSIC TO THEIR EARS👩‍🎤💃

The Elms is excited to have partnered with the amazing Music for Memories, a charitable organisation that provides headsets for people with dementia with their favourite music preloaded onto it. Thank you so much to Linda Fuggle and her colleague Jackie from the charity for spending time with people here and supporting us on this venture.

What makes this special is that they don't just provide headsets with any old songs on, but spend time working with each individual to find the most meaningful and relevant songs to them, so that they can have the most person-centred experience possible.

Val was amazed when she had her headset and told us "thank you so much, what a good idea!" Irene even shed a happy tear in surprise when the headset played her husband's favourite song, which goes to show how powerful music is for everyone.

⚰️👻🕸️ SPOOKTACULAR HALLOWEEN PARTY 😈🗡️🦴

Yesterday everyone got in the Halloween spirit 👻 by joining us for our Halloween party!

Lightly Twnd provided the spooky tunes and residents, team members and visitors dressed up and danced, sang and ate!

Lucy Baker's terrifying daughter, Ruby, took home the prize for best costume and she was the life and soul of the party!

Thank you to everyone who attended our party and helped people living here have the best time! There were so many smiles and laughs!
