Monread Lodge Care Home Monread Lodge provides residential, nursing, dementia and respite care to the elderly.

Monread Lodge is a sixty-two room care home, which provides residential, nursing, dementia and respite care to the elderly. All accommodation is en-suite and located on the ground-floor for ease of access for those with limited mobility. The comfort and safety of those who live in our homes is our top priority. We're proud to have built a community where you or your loved ones feel welcome and at home. That's why our team are dedicated to ensuring that the experience for every person who joins us is as stress-free as possible. Those living with us at Monread Lodge can enjoy the spacious conservatory, dining room and a choice of comfortable lounges. There is also a central courtyard with an ornamental fishpond and even our very own chickens. The site also houses a 16-unit dedicated dementia unit, Knebworth Court, which was refurbished in November 2020 along with many other areas of the home. Monread Lodge also features plenty of private parking, extensive grounds and secure gardens and is conveniently situated within walking distance of the town of Knebworth and Woolmer Green, close to the mainline railway station and on a direct bus route.

On Saturday Morning we had a reminiscence activity that was based on our wedding days. We talked about dresses, the planning etc. We even read the difference in the vows from the 1950's and today. It was surprising that some agreed to say "obey" and some didn't. We had a quiz and a trivia session that enabled us to discover more about traditions, which created lots of talking points. Surprisingly even the gents got involved and even more surprisingly one gentleman could even remember his wedding anniversary !

Here at Monread we love our games. Whether its using the parachute, bowling or throwing to knock things down, or big floor games like bean bag toss and snakes and ladders, it's always fun to get the friendly competitions going. Everyone is so encouraging of each other and it makes for a good sociable morning or afternoon. Always fun and everyone can join in.

This week at Monread the wonderfully fluffy Melody came for a visit. All the residents love her and she's always eager to give kisses and cuddles. This has become the norm now when Melodys owner visits one of our residents. Melody has been visiting every week since she was 8 weeks old, so the residents have built quite a bond with her.

We have had the pleasure of both Sally and Saad coming for their monthly visits.

Saad is an absolute showman and manages to get everyone joining in, he even sent us song sheets so that everyone could have access to the lyrics, so there's no excuse not to sing.

Sally visited with her trusted Clarinet and played songs from all eras, and even managed some requests. Always a sense of excitement when those living with us know they are coming!

This week at Monread Lodge, we visited Borneo.

We packed our cases and checked our passports, and we were surrounded by sounds of the forest and baboons calling.

We learned about it being the oldest rain forest in the world and estimated to be over 140 million years old, and even watched a tribal dance from indigenous tribes. A great time had by all.

This week at Monread Lodge, we had our monthly visit from Performing Pets.

As promised, they brought their miniature Shetland Pony called Grayson to see us. He was adorable, and a very good boy letting everyone pet him. He is now 2 years old, and we have previously had a visit from his dad, who now lives in the field next to him.

We were also told that this type of pony used to be referred to as a Pit Pony, who spent most of their lives in the mines as they are very strong and good at pulling.

Grayson lives a luxurious life and will hopefully come back to see us all again soon.

Wow what a day!

The weather might have been horrendous but the day was filled with love, laughter, and at some points...mayhem, but everyone had fun. For two weeks prior to the day, the people who live with us had been making their tie dye tee shirts, and this was the first time they had shown them to their loved ones. Our lovely kitchen gurus once again outdid themselves, and the BBQ was amazing.

The activity room for the littleones proved to be a great success and there was a lot of intergenerational interaction, and More...Connection!

We celebrated International Vanilla Ice-cream Day, and Thomas did us proud.

Everyone enjoyed their ice creams - there was a choice of 99's, tubs, cones with sprinkles or chocolate and toffee sauce. Thomas also played the infamous ice-cream music as he went round the home. Great for More...Sensory and reminiscing.

We had our usual music and fun morning, but some of our ladies decided that they wanted to wear the Pom Pom as wigs, which made everyone laugh, whilst continuing to sing along to Elton John and the Beatles.

This was followed by a Straight Face Quiz. A person has to answer a question by using the word Sausage. This had the whole conservatory in hysterics, so much so our giggle muscles started to ache.
