Monread Lodge Care Home Monread Lodge provides residential, nursing, dementia and respite care to the elderly.

Monread Lodge is a sixty-two room care home, which provides residential, nursing, dementia and respite care to the elderly. All accommodation is en-suite and located on the ground-floor for ease of access for those with limited mobility. The comfort and safety of those who live in our homes is our top priority. We're proud to have built a community where you or your loved ones feel welcome and at home. That's why our team are dedicated to ensuring that the experience for every person who joins us is as stress-free as possible. Those living with us at Monread Lodge can enjoy the spacious conservatory, dining room and a choice of comfortable lounges. There is also a central courtyard with an ornamental fishpond and even our very own chickens. The site also houses a 16-unit dedicated dementia unit, Knebworth Court, which was refurbished in November 2020 along with many other areas of the home. Monread Lodge also features plenty of private parking, extensive grounds and secure gardens and is conveniently situated within walking distance of the town of Knebworth and Woolmer Green, close to the mainline railway station and on a direct bus route.

These photos are just a small snap shot of our week. Theres been bowling, More...Sensory, music, games and bingo and there's even been time just to sit, chat and play cards. Always lots of fun at Monread and the positive feedback from the families really makes the time spent with the residents an honour and a day of good memories for all.

Singers galore this week. Sally is back from a 3 month visit to Australia and New Zealand. Our residents were very glad to see her back with her trusty clarinet. Residents from all around the home came to the main conservatory to welcome her back and join in with the music and song.

We also had a visiting singer called JOJO HEART, who very kindly came in and gave us a free session to see if we like her. Well lets just say bookings are in progress.

Music has become a big part here at Monread and in some form or another there is music, song, and dance. Even madness with instruments going on every day!

We've had a very pet orientated week this week. Every Wednesday we have a lovely visit from Sasha the therapy dog from Therapy Dogs UK, and her Handler Brian, which is pretty handy for one of our residents as they are friends from the local Model Railway Club.

I challenge anyone not to smile when that sweetheart walks into your room. It also goes to show how clever she is as she is now aware that Lisa our manager hides treats in her desk.
Little Melody comes in during the week to see her "nanny" so never a sad face mid week here at Monread!

Wow what a week we have had at Monread Lodge.

The fabulous Magenta Slipperz came to perform for us. An afternoon of memorable songs, singing and banter. Magenta, also know as "Mags" was so brilliant with our residents, by the end of the day they knew everyone's names, where they wanted to go on holiday, their music preferences and tied every bit of conversation into the relevance of the next song.

Mags even took the time to go to rooms to visit the residents who couldn't attend. Mags is going to become a regular visitor to our home, as they delivered a bit of sparkle on a somewhat dull and dreary month!

At Monread we have invested in some More...Sensory based games that really can challenge the mind. The new puzzles have been a great hit with everyone. In Knebworth Court there are also new sensory games on the wall, so that when our residents go for a wander there is still activities to undertake.

Here at Monread Lodge we had a games and More...Sensory day. There were lots of activities based on hand eye coordination, touch, sound and More...Movement. There was also time for lots of reminiscing and conversing using More Portal and rediscovering our childhood games.

We had so much fun at our Christmas Party on Saturday. We had the fantastic Jess from Mini Concerts come to entertain us. She was brilliant and would highly recommend.

This was a great afternoon for spending time with family and friends, we even managed a 4th generation family gathering.

We love Christmas here at Monread, and the celebrations this year will continue right up until the last possible moment of the Christmas period.

It's been a busy couple of weeks with entertainers coming to see us... We've had a Danny La Rue impersonator, Robbie Miller, John Ford, Performing Pets, Saad and the lovely Henry has returned after sitting his exams.

We have also had a visit from St Marys Church who gave us a lovely Carol Service, and a highlight of the week for the people that live with us, our local Knebworth School came to sing us some lovely songs dressed in their Christmas and Elf hats.

Tuesday morning madness.

This morning using the new More Portal, we tried a dance exercise session for More...Movement. Because the activities staff could not see the screen, one of our lovely residents led the class for us and did a fantastic job.

We finished the session off with a rowdy rendition of The Hokey Cokey. Now everyone is bright eyed and bushy tailed ready for the days activities. The characters went around the home saying good morning and doing 1:1 hokey cokey in the rooms, which made everyone laugh. We even got called absolute nutters, which we will take as a compliment!

Sometimes it's just nice to be able to do something that is quiet and relaxing. Sometimes the Hussle and Bussel around the home can be sensory overload. So, to be given the opportunity just to sit and read, colour, do puzzles or just chat proves much more beneficial.
