Monread Lodge Care Home Monread Lodge provides residential, nursing, dementia and respite care to the elderly.

Monread Lodge is a sixty-two room care home, which provides residential, nursing, dementia and respite care to the elderly. All accommodation is en-suite and located on the ground-floor for ease of access for those with limited mobility. The comfort and safety of those who live in our homes is our top priority. We're proud to have built a community where you or your loved ones feel welcome and at home. That's why our team are dedicated to ensuring that the experience for every person who joins us is as stress-free as possible. Those living with us at Monread Lodge can enjoy the spacious conservatory, dining room and a choice of comfortable lounges. There is also a central courtyard with an ornamental fishpond and even our very own chickens. The site also houses a 16-unit dedicated dementia unit, Knebworth Court, which was refurbished in November 2020 along with many other areas of the home. Monread Lodge also features plenty of private parking, extensive grounds and secure gardens and is conveniently situated within walking distance of the town of Knebworth and Woolmer Green, close to the mainline railway station and on a direct bus route.

Robbie Miller and Saad came for a visit this week to join in the celebrations for a big birthday in the home. Katie, our Activities Assistant even got her violin out of mothballs and did a duet with Saad, with a family member joining in with " I Cant Help Falling in Love with You".

Robbie did a 60's set which is always well enjoyed, next month it's going to be his famous country set. We can't wait!!

Elvis was definitely in the building. A great afternoon of fantastic music and singing. Elvis, or Karl EP Presley, was an awesome showman. He managed to get all the ladies swooning as he moved around the room serenading them. Lots of fun and interactions, and a bit of dancing - an afternoon full of fun, music and love.

This week at Monread we celebrated Doris' 100th Birthday. The whole home, residents and staff, were invited to the party held by her family.

The week was a musical extravaganza with Robbie Miller, Saad and his Piano and finally Karl EP Presley who serenaded all the ladies.

Katie even managed a duet with Saad, playing her violin for the first time in 6 years in honour of Doris.

Mother's Day is always a time for family and thanking our mums for everything that they do. The rooms at Monread are awash with vases and flowers and gifts. It was lovely seeing multi generational visits from families this weekend. Everyone felt the love.

Here at Monread Lodge, every Wednesday brings a special visitor: Sasha, a gentle and well‑loved therapy dog. Her owner, Brian Tansley, rescued the Border Collie two years ago and has since trained her to provide comfort and companionship to others. Their weekly visits have become a cherished part of life at the home, greeted with genuine excitement from both those living with us and team members.

Katie, the Lifestyle Assistant, says Sasha’s visit is the highlight of her week, and it’s clear the feeling is shared throughout the home. Residents light up when Sasha trots in with her calm, even temperament, and Brian’s warm presence adds to the joy of the moment.

Brian is closely connected to Monread Lodge through a friendship with one of the residents from the local model railway club. He keeps busy with Sasha’s schedule and hopes to expand their visits to more care homes and even a children’s home, all while ensuring Sasha enjoys plenty of daily walks.

These photos are just a small snap shot of our week. Theres been bowling, More...Sensory, music, games and bingo and there's even been time just to sit, chat and play cards. Always lots of fun at Monread and the positive feedback from the families really makes the time spent with the residents an honour and a day of good memories for all.

Singers galore this week. Sally is back from a 3 month visit to Australia and New Zealand. Our residents were very glad to see her back with her trusty clarinet. Residents from all around the home came to the main conservatory to welcome her back and join in with the music and song.

We also had a visiting singer called JOJO HEART, who very kindly came in and gave us a free session to see if we like her. Well lets just say bookings are in progress.

Music has become a big part here at Monread and in some form or another there is music, song, and dance. Even madness with instruments going on every day!

We've had a very pet orientated week this week. Every Wednesday we have a lovely visit from Sasha the therapy dog from Therapy Dogs UK, and her Handler Brian, which is pretty handy for one of our residents as they are friends from the local Model Railway Club.

I challenge anyone not to smile when that sweetheart walks into your room. It also goes to show how clever she is as she is now aware that Lisa our manager hides treats in her desk.
Little Melody comes in during the week to see her "nanny" so never a sad face mid week here at Monread!

Wow what a week we have had at Monread Lodge.

The fabulous Magenta Slipperz came to perform for us. An afternoon of memorable songs, singing and banter. Magenta, also know as "Mags" was so brilliant with our residents, by the end of the day they knew everyone's names, where they wanted to go on holiday, their music preferences and tied every bit of conversation into the relevance of the next song.

Mags even took the time to go to rooms to visit the residents who couldn't attend. Mags is going to become a regular visitor to our home, as they delivered a bit of sparkle on a somewhat dull and dreary month!
