Tuesday Morning Muster – Fairlands Valley Lakes 🇬🇧

Another solid turnout at The Muster Point this morning.

Big thank you to Dave Parris for bringing in the birthday cake.

21 again, right Dave? We’ll go with that.

Good brew. Good banter. Proper conversations.

And “Snotty” didn’t leave empty-handed — he’s got some military-themed reading to take home.

Because even when he's out of uniform, he's still dreaming about being in it.

This is what Tuesday mornings are about:

• Veterans reconnecting
• Stories being shared
• Support happening naturally
• No one sat at home alone

Every Tuesday
10am–12pm
Fairlands Valley Lakes, Stevenage

If you’re a veteran in Hertfordshire and haven’t been down yet, come and see what it’s about.

💪 £1,366 Raised for The Muster Point 💪

A huge thank you to Alex who recently took on the Arc of Attrition Marathon and raised an incredible £1,366 for The Muster Point.

The Arc is one of the toughest endurance events in the UK. Brutal coastal terrain. Relentless elevation. Weather that can turn in minutes. It demands serious physical and mental resilience.

Alex didn’t make it to the finish line this time — but that doesn’t take away from what he achieved.

He stepped up.
He pushed himself.
He raised vital funds that will directly support veterans across Hertfordshire.

That money helps us continue:
• Weekly Musters
• Peer support and connection
• Referrals to specialist services
• Creating spaces where veterans know they’re not alone

Sometimes the result isn’t the headline — the effort is.

Alex, thank you for putting yourself on the line for the veteran community.

Armed Forces Bill 2026 – The Covenant Is Being Rewritten

On 24 & 25 February, the Select Committee on the Armed Forces Bill begins hearing evidence on the Armed Forces Bill 2026.

This one matters.

The Bill proposes significant changes to the Armed Forces Covenant — the legal duty requiring public bodies to consider the needs of serving personnel, veterans and their families.
In simple terms:

➡️ Are we moving from warm words to real accountability?

Over two days, Parliament will question:

➡️ Royal British Legion
➡️ Help for Heroes
➡️ Combat Stress
➡️ Army Families Federation
➡️ NHS, DWP and Local Authority leads

The Covenant is already in law.
If these changes tighten enforcement and close the gaps between guidance and reality, it could be a turning point.

If not, it’s another missed opportunity.
Watch closely.

The First Ladies Muster – What a Start.

Today we launched the very first Ladies Muster, and it was exactly what it needed to be — supportive, welcoming and full of genuine connection.

A huge thank you to our friends who travelled down from Biggleswade to stand alongside us. That support means a lot.

Special recognition to Amanda for stepping forward and helping lead the session, and to our Patron Claire Parris for her continued commitment to creating spaces where women connected to the Armed Forces community can come together.

This is how it starts:
✔️ Conversation
✔️ Shared understanding
✔️ Reconnection
✔️ A space that belongs to you

The next Ladies Muster will take place on 15th March. If you’re a female veteran or connected to the Armed Forces community and looking for connection, you are welcome.
Stronger together.

Tomorrow we officially launch the Ladies Muster.

This afternoon a few of us from The Muster Point headed over to The Boot in Kimpton for a spot of lunch.

Great food, strong brews and plenty of laughs. It was brilliant to see Sarah out with us.

Sadly Andy’s dad couldn’t join us as he’d been taken into hospital. We’re all thinking of you and wishing him a swift recovery.

That’s what this community is about — turning up for each other.

This Sunday – Ladies Muster 🌸

This Sunday, The Muster Point Ladies are coming together again.

A dedicated space for women veterans and members of the Armed Forces community to connect, talk openly, and build genuine support networks — in a relaxed, welcoming environment.

We know that women can have very different experiences during and after service.

The Ladies Muster exists to provide a space where those conversations can happen comfortably, without pressure, and with people who truly understand.

If you’ve been thinking about coming along, this is your sign.

The Muster Point at the Herts Together launch

The Muster Point attended the launch of Herts Together at St Albans Cathedral.

The event marked the start of a year-long programme focused on uniting communities across Hertfordshire through collaboration, compassion, and shared responsibility. It brought together partners from across the voluntary, public, and community sectors, all committed to working together rather than in silos.

As a veteran-led organisation, we welcome initiatives that value lived experience, partnership working, and community-led solutions. We look forward to engaging further and ensuring veterans are part of these wider conversations across the county.

Meet the Team | Amanda Yates – Ladies Muster Lead

Meet Amanda Yates, one of our brilliant volunteers and the lead for the Ladies Muster 💙

Amanda is a veteran who understands first-hand how isolating life can feel after leaving the Armed Forces. Living with PTSD herself, she got involved with The Muster Point because she knows how important it is to feel part of something again, to know you are not alone and that there are people who truly get it.

Amanda leads the Ladies Muster with one clear aim: to create a relaxed, welcoming, women-only space where everyone feels comfortable from the moment they arrive. She recognises that women can have very different experiences in the military, and that mixed groups are not always the easiest place to open up. The Ladies Muster offers a safer space for honest conversations, trust, and real connection.

For Amanda, the most rewarding part is watching someone arrive feeling nervous or unsure, and slowly come out of their shell, building confidence, friendships, and a sense of belonging.

Her message to anyone thinking about coming along:
You don’t need to know anyone. You don’t need to share unless you want to. You can chat, listen, or simply sit quietly. You’ll be welcomed with open arms and accepted for who you are.

💙 Community. Understanding. Connection.
That’s what Amanda helps create at The Muster Point.

Meet the Team | Marc Wooster

Marc Wooster is one of the Directors of The Muster Point and takes the lead on our Sunday Muster, helping shape a welcoming, veteran-led space built on connection and shared experience.

Marc joined the British Army in 2008, serving as a Command Post Signaller in the Royal Artillery. After leaving service, he built a successful career as an IT Infrastructure Engineer in the motor retail sector, bringing strong communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills back into the veteran community.

Like many, Marc initially felt less connected after leaving the military. Discovering the scale and strength of the veteran presence in Stevenage changed that. Having navigated transition himself, he understands the importance of peer support, shared understanding, and belonging beyond the uniform.

As a Director, Marc is passionate about veteran-led activities that bring people together. He believes the friendships forged in service should not end when it does, and he focuses on creating accessible opportunities for connection, from regular meet-ups to shared experiences such as group visits to events like the Battle Proms at Hatfield House.

Marc is involved with The Muster Point for one simple reason: no veteran should ever feel alone.
