That's me just parted with £570 for the 19th time to maintain my title 'Osteopath'.

It is a legal requirement to be registered with the General Osteopathic Council to call yourself an Osteopath, and there's a lot of work that has to go into maintaining this title in the form of CPD (continued professional development).

Over a 3 year period we need to complete 90 hours, 45 of which need to be learning with others; it can be a fairly isolated profession for many of us. We need to show our yearly hours when registering every year. In this past 3 year cycle, I completed at least 142 hours of CPD.

Standards of CPD must include:

A – Communication and patient partnership

B –Knowledge Skills & Performance

C - Safety & Quality in Practice

D – Professionalism

Additionally, we also need to do one objective activity over the 3 year period, which may include patient feedback, case discussion, a clinical audit or peer observation. At the end of the 3 year period our CPD undergoes a Peer Review by a colleague. I did 4 peer reviews for other osteos this year.

I wrote a blog about it a year ago. Have a read if you fancy

If you'd like to learn more about the General Osteopathic Council check this link

Osteopaths have a rich knowledge of anatomy and physiology, a deep understanding of the workings of the body and are heavily regulated by the GOsC

On the rare occasion like this morning where I wake early and actually get up, I so enjoy the peace and quiet of the world here in my lovely home...and I get a snuggle with my dog Fizz 💙

Tonight, I'm catching up with two of my newest friends, a meeting that we've kept up with monthly since we did a course together some time ago. We call ourselves The Sages (long story..) and we all look forward to seeing each other very much. Kate and Petra are both physiotherapists with completely different backgrounds and from completely different countries! I feel very lucky to have met them.

From the course we did, we were encouraged to look at our values and its tonight's theme of chat.

Values were not a new concept to us, but I certainly hadn't really thought about it as deeply before. That is, what values mean, how they make us feel, and what would happen if we honour those values.

I'm still finding my way around it all, but I've settled on a couple that feel right for now, which are evolving as I continue to ponder over it all.

What are your values, and how do they affect how you show up the world?

I received this text from someone who has attended many of my classes but is still learning lots about her body.

In this class, I spent time teaching attendees the difference between hip, pelvis, and lumbar spine movements in detail. How we can allow all those parts to move together, and how we can choose to dissociate them too, depending on the task in hand.

We also explored how the ribcage can move and then be placed on top of the pelvis.

We also experienced how if we allow our shoulder blades to move up the ribcage on shoulder movements, the arms and the weights we were holding become lighter, rather than drawing them down as is often cued.

We noticed that when we allow for natural movement, the core switches on automatically without having to pull it in.

These are all the things I'm always bringing people's attention to. It's so interesting how doing it a little differently can help it land in a different way.

All this in one hour.

My Pilates classes are held in local halls (full) but also on Zoom. If you fancy joining the Zoom class, you'd be most welcome.

That's me off now for 2 weeks 😊

I'll still be here, occasionally checking messages and emails. I'm back in the clinic and studio on Monday 2nd June.

You can book an appointment online at https://talltreesaberfoyle.co.uk/ , the first appointment available is currently 11th June. People do reschedule appointments, so if you're in need please pop yourself on the Waiting List from the booking page, and I can contact you if an space becomes available.

I might do the occasional post over my time off. If there's any requests for a particular subject regarding your pain, health and wellbeing, please message me.

I hope you're all able to enjoy the sunshine. See you soon 😎

I wrote a blog, summarising my experience of the weekend at a JEMS course in Harrogate.

As always, I learn so much at these courses. The two subjects explored were Happy Hips & Hypermobility.

Enjoy with a cuppa. Maybe I could help you?

Here we are! , me and a sassy skeleton 😁

Yesterday was JEMS° tastic. It was so fab to see a few familiar faces, meet new ones, and explore our bodies through movement.

The room was full of clinical practitioners: physiotherapists, chiropractors, and osteopaths, plus other movement experts, all of us certified in this approach.

The themes of the day were Happy Hips and Hypermobility, each being a huge subject on their own but interwoven together, providing us with new tools to help us help our patients, and, consolidating years of knowledge to mastery level.

I love how we are all invited to share what we found when given a movement task because every one of us experienced something completely different.

Experiencing things very 'other', hardly ever to do with the actual structure.

Sooo interesting!

I'll write it all up in a blog soon.

Thank you, 🌳

📚Book recommendation!!📚

I loved listening to this book on as the author herself reads it. She has a lovely voice with a soft Texan accent, with all the perfect pauses and words highlighted that you might get from reading it? I'll read it that way, too, some day.

I think this book is so important to read if you're a health practitioner of any kind, but I also think all parents, partners, and business leaders..anyone really, would benefit in absorbing this book.

It enhances the art of communication and collaboration, which is paramount for effective and efficient interviews and meetings. It allows people to think AND be heard.

Allowing for Time, for someone to Think whilst you really Listen and don't talk, don't finish their sentence, don't give advice really opens up the mind of that person and only good things are found out, thought of, happen.

Let me know what you think. Are there any other recommendations out there?
