I didn’t set out to run a gym. šŸ™…ā€ā™‚ļø
I set out to help people feel like themselves again- away from the ā€œintimidationā€ of a conventional gym.

When I started in fitness back in 2013, I was running outdoor bootcamps.
Rain, mud, equipment dragged across parks… and I saw people show up at 6am exhausted, stressed, and running on empty.

And I realised something:
It was never just about losing weight.
It wasn’t even about getting fitter.

This week marks 7 years since we opened the doors to Shapesmart Gym! šŸŽÆ

Before that, we spent 6 years running Stirling’s first outdoor group-based transformation program focused on personalisation and results.
We expanded into Falkirk, battled the Scottish winters šŸ„¶ā€¦ and eventually took the leap indoors.

Opening the gym was chaos
šŸ› ļø 16-hour days
šŸŽØ Paint-covered clothes
🄪 Living off Tesco meal deals
And running outdoor sessions in between (usually covered in paint šŸ§‘ā€šŸŽØ)

It wouldn’t have been possible without the support of a handful of family & friends šŸ¤

At the time we had 60 outdoor members ready to move in…
But 54 dropped off just before opening.
Turns out the word ā€œgymā€ can be intimidating 😬

Thankfully, we had already signed up 70 brand-new members in just 12 weeks šŸ”® and from there, things took off FAST šŸš€

Until COVID hit.
Again, 70% of our members cancelled overnight (understandably)
Doors closed.
Everyone’s routine shattered
Uncertainty everywhere.

For nearly 2 years, we did what we had to do to survive the restrictions & uncertainty. At times, it didn’t seem viable to continue
We could’ve quit. Certainly felt like it sometimes… But we didn’t.

We pushed through šŸ’Ŗ
Made sacrifices, learned hard lessons, adapted and actually came out better šŸ’« stronger and more resilient

I seen a picture the other day that made me think. Two cooked chickens šŸ“

One was burnt to a crisp after an hour @ 400 degrees
The other was cooked to perfection after three hours @ 150 degrees.

You don’t need to change everything. You just need to change one thing (consistently) 🧠

In Pursuit of results, most people try to overhaul their whole life at once…

100% Clean eating, daily workouts, 10k steps, early mornings, no sugar, more water, less stress…

Then burn out, fall off and dent confidence by week 3 -> guilt, self sabotage -> ā€œI’ll start again on Mondayā€ 😩

The problem with this strategy is that it doesn’t allow the time and focus required to develop the skills you need to sustain results

It’s like trying to write a best selling book without learning the alphabet first- it’s not going to happen āŒ

We often tell our clients ā€œonly fight one battle at a timeā€

Because real transformation comes from changing one thing at a time and letting that habit sink in and create momentum before moving on to the next

This is what I coach every client to do:
āœ… Start with small steps
āœ… Focus on ONE target
āœ… Stack wins
āœ… Build habits that stick over time

Drink 2L of water a day — every day
Then
Add an extra 10g of protein to each meal
Then
Go for a 10-min walk after dinner
Then

If you’ve ever thought that, I see you. And I need you to know this:

You’re not too far gone. And you’re not alone.

feeling nervous, intimidated, or even embarrassed is normal. In fact, it’s usually the driving force behind why our clients get such great success šŸ†
