Incredibly proud of my NHS Fife Addiction Services colleagues for the work they do and for showcasing this at the SDF conference 🫶🏼

Chaired by Trina Ritchie, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, this session focused on improving access and quality in treatment.

We had presentations from Katy MacLeod and Samantha Stewart, Scottish Drugs Forum on ‘Choices and support in medication assisted treatment’ and Kelly Renfrew and Susie Duff, NHS Fife on ‘Benzodiazepine prescribing in Fife’.

The session concluded with a panel discussion and Q&A with people with living experience. An insightful discussion on strengthening treatment pathways and improving outcomes.

People have reported sudden collapse after injecting or smoking he**in, with a rapid onset of overdose. Further testing is underway to identify the specific drugs involved in these clusters. However, there is concern that the he**in supply continues to be contaminated with substances like nitazenes—a potent opioid often many times stronger than he**in—significantly increasing the risk of overdose and death.

I’m so saddened to hear of Peter’s passing. A prominent figure, campaigning tirelessly for change.
