Back to school today!

Great to finally get back in the classroom and teach in person rather than on Zoom lectures. The first lesson is acupuncture points practical class so will be very "hands on".

Looking forward to seeing my first year students again.

Today, marks the start of the Chinese New Year of the Yin Metal Ox (also known as the White Cow).

To celebrate the Year of the Ox, click on the short video and continue reading to find out what the Year of the Ox has got in store for us all.

2020 was the beginning of a completely new 12 year and 60 year cycle– the rat being the first animal in the Chinese zodiac cycle and the Ox being the second -although it should have been the first. Legend has it that the crafty Rat tricked the Ox into giving him a ride, jumping off just before the finish line to come in first thus defining the order of the zodiac animals.

Until the 12th of February 2021, the world currently remains under the rulership of the gregarious and volatile Yang Metal Rat. The ancient Chinese attribute previous Metal Yang Rat years to political intrigue, change and reform – 2020 certainly turned out to be an unexpected and particularly difficult year to navigate. Like most people, I’m sure you are only too glad to see the back of one of the most turbulent years of our lifetime.

Although 2021 hasn’t exactly started well with yet another lockdown, and the Lotus Flower Clinic remains closed, from 12th February onwards, there will at least be a slight calming of events and a greater sense of stability. The combination of Ox and Metal could make 2021 a positive year.

You’re an Ox if you were born in the following years – 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997 and 2009. Princess Diana was a Metal Ox (born in 1961) and would have been 60 this year.

Other famous Ox’s include Walt Disney (1901), Margaret Thatcher (1925), Saddam Hussein (1937), George Clooney and Barack Obama (1961).

People born in the year of the Ox are considered quiet, inactive, slow, and calm – think of the Ox ploughing the field up and down – Ox people can be plodders and it will take them a long time to reach their goals, but they get there eventually.

Characteristically, the Ox is family orientated, hardworking, diligent, responsible, traditional, and very stubborn – think of the phrase “as stubborn as a mule!” If provoked, they can lose their temper and when they do, get out of their way as they will be like a charging bull!

I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know that whilst the Lotus Flower Clinic remains closed during the latest lockdown, as soon as things 'unlock', I will be back up again and running.

Until then, may the 'Chi' be you and may you enjoy an auspicious 2021!

Yay, Acupuncture Associates is back!

How I’ve missed my lovely Lotus Flower clinic and treating all my patients.

After completing all the necessary steps outlined by the British Acupuncture Council in line with government advice, the clinic is now open again and ‘Covid 19 secure’.

Whilst I can’t say I’m thrilled about all the PPE and cleaning, as always, my top priority is your health, safety, and wellbeing. I'd like to reassure you that I'm taking all the necessary precautions so that you can visit the clinic safely and confidently and benefit from my services in the 'new abnormal' climate.

So, if your health has suffered during lockdown or you simply feel in need of my services to energise your body, empty your mind and uplift your spirit, then do book yourself in for an appointment. You can email, text or call me on my mobile 07903 106560.

I would be only TOO delighted to welcome you back to The Lotus Flower Clinic.

23/03/2020

Due to the worsening situation of the coronavirus and on recent advice from my professional body, the British Acupuncture Council, regretfully, I will be suspending all acupuncture appointments until further notice and the clinic is now closed. This is obviously to prevent any unnecessary risk to your health and wellbeing, as well as my own, and to stop the imminent spread of this deadly virus. I will be contacting you personally if you have an appointment booked.

These are challenging times for all of us and I will do my best to continue supporting you with your health and wellbeing issues, although as you can appreciate, acupuncture isn’t something that can be done remotely.

In the meantime, please practise as much self-care as possible, whether this be in the form of yoga, meditation, going for a walk (being mindful of social distancing), having a relaxing bath, repeating mantras and affirmations and keeping your vitamin C levels up – drinking hot water with fresh slices of lemons – just a few of the things I’m doing to keep me mentally and physically sane during these troubling times.

Sending you positive Qi (chi) vibes.

Open for business and here for you!

I have just listened to a great webinar for acupuncturists about the impact of Coronavirus.

Like many of you, I am genuinely concerned about what is happening around the world, and especially the current situation in the UK which affects us all. Obviously, as an acupuncturist and health care provider, I have a duty of care, not only to my patients, but also to myself and the wider community at large. Your health and wellbeing is of paramount importance and will continue to be at the forefront of any decisions I make about whether to temporarily close the clinic.

Please rest assured I am currently monitoring the situation closely and following government advice. At the moment, acupuncture clinics are not classed as social settings so do not fall under the social gathering category. Nevertheless, the following precautions have been implemented and I will be personally screening all patients prior to any appointments.

• If you have a cold, newly developed dry persistent cough, flu like symptoms or a temperature above 37.8 degrees C, please refrain from attending the clinic and self-isolate.

• If you, or someone you have been in contact with, has travelled from the worst affected Covid 19 areas, please refrain from attending the clinic.

• If you are over the age of 70 and have a pre-existing medical condition such as asthma, diabetes or heart disease, please follow government advice about self isolation.

• Don’t be offended if I offer you hand sanitiser or ask you to wash your hands and forearms thoroughly (for at least 20 seconds) on arrival at the clinic.

• Avoid touching your mouth or face it at all possible during a treatment.

• Disinfecting work surfaces, card machine, door handles, light switches etc at regular intervals during the day.

In the meantime, can I reassure you that I continue to follow the British Acupuncture Council's strict hygiene standards which includes washing my hands before and after treatment using the handwashing techniques set out by the World Health Organisation.

Personally, I have no wish or intention to contract coronavirus and will be keeping myself in a good nutritional stance and high vibrational frequency. To be clear, I’m not letting this virus infect my mind and buying into the fear and panic buying even though I’m down to my last few loo rolls!

For the time being at least, it’s business as usual and I will continue to support you and your health and wellbeing for as long as it remains practically feasible.

Today, marks the start of the Chinese New Year of the Yang Metal Rat (also known as the Golden Rat) and to celebrate this occasion, watch out for the special offer in the video below.

As with many of the animals in the Chinese Zodiac, the Rat does not carry the same connotations of character as in Western tradition. The Rat is clever, tricky, active, tactical, thoughtful, sharp-sighted, witty and full of vitality. The rat is also brilliant, brainy with a sense of creativity. On the downside they can be timid, stubborn, volatile and selfish.

People born in 1912, 1924, 1936,1948,1960, 1972 1984, 1972 1984, 1996 or 2008 are members of the Rat Chinese zodiac sign.

Famous Rats include: Prince Harry, Prince Charles, Cameron Diaz, Shakespear and George Washington.
