CW: 🌱 Sibling Grief 🌱

When a baby dies, their brothers and sisters grieve too.
Even very young children sense that something has changed. They may feel sad, confused, worried, or even left out of the rituals of remembering.

🫂 Children need clear, age-appropriate explanations and lots of reassurance.
🎨 They often express their feelings through play, drawing, or storytelling, rather than words.
🤲 It’s important to give them space to ask questions, even the ones that feel hard to answer.
💞 Including siblings in acts of remembrance – like lighting a candle, planting a flower, or choosing a special keepsake – helps them feel connected and less alone.

No child should feel they have to grieve in silence.
With honesty, gentleness, and love, we can support siblings to navigate their grief while still feeling safe, seen, and held.

So often, they feel they have to be the “strong one” — the supporter, the protector, the practical one who holds everything together. But inside, they are grieving just as deeply.

Their pain can sometimes be overlooked, hidden behind the care they give to others. They may not always find the words to express it, but their love and their loss are real.

Today we pause to remember all partners who have lost a baby.
We honour your love, your grief, and the quiet ways you carry that loss.
You deserve care, support, and space to grieve too.

Whatever you’re feeling — sadness, anger, guilt, confusion, or even numbness — it’s valid.

CW: Language Matters – Baby Loss

Words can comfort, or they can wound.
When speaking to someone whose baby has died, the smallest phrases can make the biggest difference.

✨ Say: “I’m so sorry your baby died.”
✨ You can also say: “I’m thinking of you and [baby’s name].”
🚫 Avoid: “At least…” or “You can try again.”

There’s no need for big speeches or silver linings.
Gentle, simple words honour their grief and show that you see their baby’s life.

Your words can be a soft place to land in the hardest of moments.
Choose compassion over clichés — it truly matters.
