Why do we glorify burnout and call it ambition?

I’ve been sitting with this question after a powerful session with a client who felt “less than” for not working full time. And honestly? I see this everywhere—as a counsellor, as a midwife, as a human.

Capitalism taught us that our value lies in our productivity. That rest must be earned. That exhaustion equals dedication.

But you are not a machine.
You don’t have to be constantly overwhelmed to be worthy.
Rest isn’t laziness—it’s life-giving.

Your humanity was never meant to be conditional.

You are enough, even when you’re still.
