David Ollerenshaw

David keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes, taking care of our books and finances.

On the day of a funeral, you’ll often see him behind the wheel of one of our limousines, offering a calm and friendly presence.

Away from work, David enjoys motorbike meets on his trike Percy and looking out new good food spots.

⚰️ Supplier Spotlight – J C Walwyn & Sons ⚰️

We are proud to work with JC Walwyn & Sons, one of England & Wales’ leading coffin and casket makers.

Family-run since 1947, Walwyn’s began from humble beginnings in Ashbourne and has grown into a trusted name in the funeral profession. Still proudly led by the Walwyn family today, they craft over 25,000 coffins every year, from traditional wood finishes to eco-friendly choices and bespoke designs.

Every coffin is delivered with the same care, craftsmanship, and attention to detail that has been at the heart of the business for over 75 years.

It’s an honour to work alongside such a dedicated family business, helping us provide families with meaningful and personal choices for their loved ones. 🌹

We’re so proud of Helen for stepping in front of the camera to share more about her role here at Memories Funeral Service. Helen is often the first friendly face families see, and she gently guides them when visiting their loved one in our chapel of rest.

This is her first time filming a video like this (yes, she has a little script in hand 📄), but we think she’s done brilliantly. Her warmth, compassion, and dedication to families shine through every word.

Please join us in showing Helen some support, we know how much families value the care she gives every single day. 🌷

✨ We are proud to share our brand-new welcome video ✨

In it, you’ll hear directly from some of the families we’ve had the privilege to care for, as they share their own experiences with us. You’ll also see a little more of who we are, as Helen and I talk about what matters most to us in our work.

At Memories Funeral Service, everything we do is about dignity, compassion, and supporting families when they need it most. This video will also be featured on our website, but we wanted you to see it here first.

🎥 Watch below and let us know what you think, we’d love to hear your thoughts.

Helen Ollerenshaw

Helen is the warm and welcoming voice you’ll often hear first at Memories Funeral Service. She guides families with care, from those first conversations to visiting loved ones in our chapel of rest.

Alongside her husband David, Helen proudly owns and runs the business. She has been in funerals since 2018, after many years working at the local primary school.

Away from work, Helen enjoys the finer things in life, whether that’s discovering new Mediterranean dishes, unwinding on a sunny beach, or exploring the history and charm of Europe’s old cities.

🏍️✨ We had a fantastic day yesterday at Roughley’s Bike Show in Stockport!

It was great for the four of us, Simon, David, Helen and Adam, to spend the day together supporting such a brilliant event and the amazing work that Roughley’s do for the community. Helen even did a bit of moonlighting behind the bar, which went down a treat! 🍻

And to top it off, David’s trike “Percy” went and won Best Trike in Show 2025 🏆👏

A big thank you to everyone who came along and made it such a memorable day. Roll on next year!

🌸 Supplier Spotlight – Gresty’s Florist 🌸

We are proud to work with Gresty’s Florist, a family business that has been part of Stockport’s story for generations.

Founded by Marjorie and Ernest Gresty, the business began from their living room and a small market stall. From there, they moved to Edgeley before finally settling into their long-standing home on the A6, where the shop remains a much-loved local landmark.

Now run by their children and grandchildren, Gresty’s continues to deliver the same family values, care, and creativity that built their name. They specialise in personalised floral tributes and provide flowers for every occasion, from weddings, birthdays and Valentine’s Day to funerals and lasting grave products. Alongside their bespoke arrangements, they also run a small garden centre.

For us, Gresty’s is more than just a florist, they are trusted partners who share our commitment to compassion and detail when supporting families. 💐

What a send off!

For Andrew there was only one way he could arrive at the chapel for his final journey. As his friends and family applauded his fun, and fitting arrival it was clear what an impact he made on everyone.

A true fan of sport, particularly the beautiful game our amazing team wore shirts from the archives of his beloved

For a man who was a much loved character by not only his generation but those that followed he was laid to rest with a very emotional tribute and surrounded with sunflowers lovingly placed by his nearest and dearest.

Hello,

We’re excited to share something new we’re doing here at Memories Funeral Service in Romiley. From next month, we’ll be putting a “What’s On in Romiley” community noticeboard in our window.

The idea is simple, we want to create a space where people can easily see what’s happening locally. From coffee mornings and church services, to charity events, club meetings, and family activities, if it’s something for the Romiley community, we’d love to help spread the word. The board will be updated each month so there’s always something fresh to see.

If you run a group, host events, or have news you’d like to share with local people, please do get in touch and we’ll include it. You can email us at info@memoriesfuneralservice.com or call us on 0161 302 9753.

We hope the noticeboard will become a friendly hub for the community, and we’d also like you to know that if there are other ways we can support your group or get involved in local projects, we’d be very happy to have a chat.

Let’s make Romiley an even more connected and welcoming place together.

Pictures to follow

With warm wishes,
David and Helen Ollerenshaw

For centuries, flowers have played a meaningful role in funerals, offering beauty, symbolism, and comfort when words fall short.

In ancient times, fragrant blooms were used to mask the scent of death, but their purpose quickly grew beyond the practical. The Victorians turned flowers into a language of mourning, with each bloom holding its own meaning.

Lilies came to symbolise the restored innocence of the soul. Rosemary was for remembrance. White roses, eternal love.

Today, floral tributes remain a powerful expression of grief, respect, and love. A way of saying goodbye, gently, colourfully, and from the heart.

🌿 What flowers do you associate with someone you’ve lost?

The black tailcoat, top hat, and cane were inspired by Victorian formalwear, chosen to symbolise dignity, respect, and solemnity at a time when mourning customs were deeply ritualised.

The top hat became iconic, not for fashion, but as a mark of honour. In the past, funeral directors would doff their hat as the hearse passed.

Even today, the uniform reflects the timeless values we hold dear: respect, tradition, and care.
