DRUM MAKING WORKSHOP:
Saturday 23rd August
Dorrie Joy is an artist and drum maker. She has been making drums for 25 years, and holding ceremonial spaces and workshop journeys for over 13 years. www.dorriejoy.co.uk or Instagram/ Facebook Dorrie Joy Artist.
We are hosting Dorrie at lakeside cottage smithy lane Marple bridge SK65NS.
Offering a group opportunity to take part in this very special drum making workshop β Dorrie is a Red Road woman who works in affiliation with Northern Drum and the School of Movement Medicine β And comes highly recommended.
For this workshop we will be working with elemental ceremony and simple hands on ritual in alignment with the land and the season. We will be embarking upon a deeply personal and unique journey together to create our own shamanic drums. These drums are crafted as soul vessels of belonging, filled with our intentions, our life presence and our soul songs.
βAll the materials Dorrie uses are hand prepared, ethically and locally sourced with honour and care. Frames are hand steamed sustainably sourced ash. The standard size frame will be 16β but 14β and 18β are available if you prefer.
Skins available are: deer, reindeer, goat, buffalo and horse. Each skin is unique and filled with character and spirit.
Contact Dorrie after booking your place and paying your deposit, and we can connect to talk about the right drum for you, WhatsApp is 07842286779.
We will be working with a native Tarascan frame drum design which makes a medicine wheel in a beautiful, balanced, prayerful way, with a woven cross design in the centre. You may bring a crystal or stone, wood or fabric etc, that sits well in your palm, for the centrepiece if you wish. No worries if not, the woven design looks beautiful with or without a stone.
Wear comfortable clothing and come well rested. Eat well beforehand and prepare for a day of physical stamina, mental attention and prayerful intention. A day of homecoming, trusting the tender wisdom in your hands.
We will be working mainly on floor level.
Let us know if there is any condition you may need support with or awareness of.
Our workshop will finish with a drum blessing, in the evening.
The investment for this workshop is Β£250.
Because the main bulk of the work is in the gathering and preparing of materials ready for the workshop, you will need to pay in advance, or a deposit of Β£150 when you book and then the balance can be paid on the day.
