As we settle into our visit to Kambia, Sierra Leone, the Clarity Occupational Health team has been overwhelmed — not by the challenges, but by the warmth, resilience, and generosity of spirit we’ve experienced in every village, school, and meeting so far.
These first few days have reminded us what inclusion in action truly looks like — not in policies, but in the people who welcome us, walk beside us, and share their stories with us.
Highlights So Far
Welcome Ceremony
Our visit began with a warm welcome — outlining the plans ahead and reconnecting with the local teams already doing this work on the ground.
Sunday Worship & Community Connection
We were honoured to walk with RRC children to a local church service, joining in worship and reflection — a beautiful reminder of the spiritual strength at the heart of these communities.
Meeting the Paramount Chief
In Magbema Chiefdom, we met with local authorities to learn about ongoing development efforts and how inclusion fits into district priorities.
Exploring Local Culture
A visit to Bamoi Luma’s bustling weekly market gave us a chance to learn about daily livelihoods, small business life, and the incredible energy of the community.
Time With Children at RRC
We returned to the Residential Rehabilitation Centre, spending joyful, grounding hours playing games, sharing gifts, and listening to the powerful stories of the children and staff.
The School Walk
One of the most moving experiences so far was walking with the children to school at sunrise — alongside Ya Alimamy, Adama, and Isata. These walks, often long and difficult, are a daily journey of courage. It’s an experience we’ll carry with us long after we leave.
Meeting District Stakeholders
We met with key government offices, including the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender & Children’s Affairs, to explore ways of strengthening support for disabled children and vulnerable youth.
Village of Hope Welcome
The visit to the Village of Hope was filled with music, dance, and celebration. It’s not just a name — it’s a real reflection of what’s being built here through partnership.
Deepening the Partnership
In dedicated working sessions, WESOFOD’s leadership shared the organisation’s journey, challenges, and opportunities — opening the door for future collaboration grounded in trust.
We’re also incredibly proud to be joined on this journey by Honorary Chief Dawn Veal (Ya Alimamy). Her presence brings both expertise and deep empathy to every step of this mission, and it’s been a privilege to witness her connection with the local communities here in Kambia.
We’ve seen a lot in just a few days — and yet, this is only the beginning.
As always, we’re grateful to walk this path alongside WESOFOD, the local communities, and partners .
