We had the first of our V.E. Day celebrations today, kicking things off with a party featuring the wonderful singer Rebecca Done. She brought an amazing World War II–themed performance, singing classic British songs from the 40s like “We’ll Meet Again” and other favourites.

Wow, what a party,she had so many people up on their feet, while others were happily waving their flags.

During the party, our kitchen team joined in for a dance and handed out ice creams and choc ices, and there were even ice-cold beers to give it that real party feeling.

Each household is now decorated with V.E. Day bunting and Union Jack flags, which has really brought everything to life. One of our residents, who usually prefers the quiet of his own room and isn’t a fan of big groups, came out to see what was going on. He looked around and asked, “What’s going on?” We had a lovely little conversation about V.E. Day and why we’d put up all the decorations. He simply said, “Good, I like that, and I like the flags,” which was just so lovely to hear from him. 💙

Thank you, Rebecca, for bringing so much joy, we’ve had a great afternoon.

🌸 What’s on this week at Cherry Tree House 🌸

We’re delighted to share another engaging and meaningful week of activities for our residents, with a special focus on our VE Day celebrations 🇬🇧

Throughout the week, residents will enjoy a variety of enriching experiences including quizzes, music therapy sessions, animal visits, and themed activities, all designed to promote wellbeing, connection, and enjoyment.

We’ll also be recognising National Nurses Week and ending the week with a relaxing movie afternoon 🎬

It’s set to be a wonderful week filled with music, celebration, and togetherness. We look forward to sharing these special moments with our residents and all visitors are welcome💙

This afternoon we took part in “Time for a Cuppa” to support Dementia U.K. ☕

Our bake sale was held in our reception area, where residents and visitors could pick their favourite sweet treats, have a chat, and spend time together with team members, other residents and visitors. Some residents also enjoyed a little walk outside in the sunshine while they were there.

We had a great afternoon as well as raising money for a great cause! We’re pleased to share that we raised £74. A big thank you to our team and the kind visitors who stopped by to donate, every little bit helps 💙

We’ve had a full week of 1:1 wellbeing sessions, and they continue to play such an important role in supporting our residents, especially for those who prefer quieter, more personal time over group activities.

Each session is person-centred and tailored to individual interests. With the lovely weather this week, some residents have enjoyed spending their time outdoors, making the most of the sunshine.

Yesterday, one of our ladies from Romiley household decided she’d like a trip to the shops. She shared that she hadn’t been in such a long time, so it was a special outing. She treated herself to a new magazine, a body spray, and some chocolate. When she returned, she was already looking forward to next time, she’d love to go clothes shopping!

On Friday, we are hosting a “Time for a Cuppa” event in support of Dementia UK. We warmly invite residents, visitors and the community to our reception area for a slice of cake and a cuppa, while helping to raise awareness and vital funds for this important cause close to all of our hearts.

We look forward to welcoming you and coming together for a lovely afternoon of support, conversation, and community spirit 💙🍰☕️

As we approach VE Day, we are proud to be displaying our commemorative posters throughout the home as we reflect on this important moment in history.

VE Day (Victory in Europe Day) marks 8 May 1945, the day the Second World War in Europe came to an end. It is a time to remember and give thanks for the courage, resilience, and sacrifice of those who served, as well as the families and communities who supported them through such challenging years.

Many of our residents have personal memories of the end of the Second World War, and VE Day holds deep meaning within our home. It is a special opportunity for us to come together, share stories, and pay our respects to all those who contributed to the peace we are fortunate to have today.

To mark the occasion, we will be hosting a variety of activities throughout the week in May. We are hoping to begin with a garden party on the 5th, weather permitting, and there will be something for everyone to enjoy, with plenty of chances to get involved, socialise, and celebrate together. 🌹
