One of our lovely nurses, Lisa, kindly donated a fantastic projector and of course, we couldn’t wait to put it to the test!

Some of our residents on Romiley Household enjoyed a theatre-style afternoon with a special screening of "There's No Business Like Show Business", featuring the iconic Marilyn Monroe, on the big screen.

We set up the viewing in our in-house library, the darkest and cosiest room in the home, perfect for that true cinema experience!

Everyone had a great time, and we’re already planning our next movie afternoon. Huge thanks to Lisa for her thoughtful donation! 🎥✨

Our pink ladies pulled out all the stops for a full pamper morning, hair wash, blow dry, facial, and a full face of makeup with one of our lovely resident on our Bramhall household, who has always taken pride in her appearance, and she absolutely loves having her hair and makeup done. With the tunes playing (including plenty of Whitney Houston!), we had a proper sing and dance, it was the ultimate girly morning with the Pink Ladies!

Our resident found the blow dry especially relaxing and said so herself. We all had such a fun time and so many laughs, it honestly felt like getting ready for a big night out! With her fresh new look, she was all set to enjoy the rest of her day with her lovely partner.

Today, to honour International Day of Charity, we thought it would be lovely for some of our residents to create handmade cards filled with positive messages as a random act of kindness and little "pick-me-ups" for those who could use it.

What made this activity even more special was seeing a few residents who don’t usually join in on arts and crafts choose to take part, simply because it meant being kind and bringing happiness to others.

When the cards were delivered and opened, the smiles were contagious! One lady resident opened her card, giggled, and said, “Oh that’s so lovely… I hope it’s from a man!” Which had us chuckling!

Another resident smiled and said, “Wow, this is so kind, who is it from?” When we explained it was a random act of kindness from a fellow resident, she looked at our Wellbeing Lead, Kirsty, and said, “Nooo… I know who it’s from, it’s from YOU!” Kirsty laughed and replied, “Well, I may have helped a little…” All resident who recieved a card were so thankful, it was lovely to see that little twinkle in their eye when reading positive words about themselves.

It was a reminder that something as simple as a heartfelt message can truly lift someone’s spirits. We’re so proud of our residents for spreading kindness in the sweetest way. 💗

It was such a lovely afternoon in our Marple and Bramhall households as we marked Alzheimer’s Awareness Month with a special activity called “What Makes Me, Me.” We cut out loads of different images and asked residents to pick out the ones that reminded them of themselves, whether it was a favourite animal, hobby, place or memory.

We had such a giggle realising how well we actually know our residents, most of the time, we could guess exactly what they’d pick before they even said it! One resident picked out a picture of a cat, and their family, who were visiting at the time, showed us a photo of their 14-year-old cat at home – and it looked just like the one in the image!

A lot of residents were drawn to the baby picture, saying “look at his cheeky little face!” and it was so lovely to see so many of them choosing pictures to do with family, love, and especially music – in fact, every single resident picked something music-related, which just shows how strong that connection still is.

Activities like this are such a great way to get our residents chatting and reminiscing, especially those living with dementia. It helps bring out their personalities, spark memories, and gives them a chance to express themselves in their own way. Most of all, it’s just a lovely way to spend time together and celebrate everything that makes each of them unique. 🥰

This morning, our beloved Jolly Trolley transformed into a charming newspaper and magazine stand, bringing the latest reads right to our residents’ doors!

From morning papers to glossy magazines, it was a big hit with everyone! And for those who prefer to listen, our trolley now features built-in audiobooks, so there truly was something for everyone to enjoy.

We didn’t manage to capture many photos today, but the smiles and memories shared during our “Familiar Faces” reminiscence session were too special not to share!

This afternoon, our residents gathered around the Jolly Trolley for a fun and interactive game of “Who is this person?” One memorable moment came when a photo of Frank Sinatra appeared. One of our lovely ladies instantly recognised him, but couldn’t recall his name, until we played one of his classic songs. Within seconds, her face lit up and she proudly called out, “Frank Sinatra!!” Her pride and sense of accomplishment were priceless.

Another gentleman, who initially hesitated and said, “My memory is terrible,” ended up playing for over 20 minutes, identifying most of the faces without even needing clues. He left the session with a real boost in confidence and a big smile.

Reminiscence activities, especially when supported by music and visual prompts can Improve mood and reduce anxiety, strengthen cognitive function, create feelings of familiarity, boost self-esteem and confidence, and encourage social interaction. In this session, this was all true for our residents. 💛

We have a success on our Romiley (general nursing) Household this afternoon!

One of our residents, who has been spending the past few weeks in his room due to mobility issues, has been on the road to recovery. While he’s known that walking would help strengthen his legs, he’s also been feeling a bit unsure about getting back on his feet after being unwell.

Our Wellbeing Lead, Kirsty, along with the team on Romiley household, has been visiting him daily, gently encouraging him to take small steps when he felt ready. And today… he was ready! 🎉

When Kirsty arrived this afternoon, he was already up and fully dressed, a sign he was ready to give it a go! Together, they walked around the entire floor, three large corridors and four communal areas — an amazing achievement!

During their stroll, they stopped for a lovely chat with another resident who offered encouragement with a warm, “Keep it up mate, you’re doing well!” The two even had a laugh together, sharing a light-hearted moment about “being old and what they have to do!”

As he returned to his room, our resident smiled and said, “I didn’t realise how big this place is… and how much I’ve walked!” He was understandably tired, but proud. Kirsty reassured him of how well he had done, and they celebrated with a well-earned coffee and a chat.

Best of all? He’s agreed to try for a daily walk and even mentioned how nice it was to chat to the other gentleman, and that he’d like to talk with him again.

A heartwarming step forward, in more ways than one!
