Yesterday was a very busy day in the home with something for everyone to enjoy! Alongside a visit from Rise Sports Therapy and our early Mother’s Day afternoon tea, we were also delighted to have our wonderful music therapist, Lynsey, with us throughout the day. 🎶

Here are some lovely snaps from our weekly choir, which takes place every Thursday at 3:00 PM on Marple Household. It’s always a joyful session.

Everyone is welcome to come along and join in! 🎤😊

Yesterday we held an early Mother’s Day afternoon tea and welcomed visitors to enjoy some tasty pickings and a gorgeous homemade cake, freshly prepared by our in-house kitchen. 🍰

The cake went down a treat, we had lots of empty plates by the end! Our Wellbeing Lead made sure to knock door-to-door so that nobody, especially our lovely ladies, missed out on the celebrations.

Today the celebrations continue! 🎉 We are holding our Mother’s Day Party at 2:30 PM, featuring a fantastic Elvis Presley tribute act. Visitors and loved ones are very welcome to come along and join the fun.

At Cherry Tree House, our Lead Assistant Psychologist Alina and Wellbeing Lead Kirsty recently teamed up to create a wonderful in-house “shopping experience” for our residents!

With fantastic support from our laundry team, who worked hard to ensure clothes were freshly washed, pressed, and ready to wear, we opened our very own clothes shop, “The Sunday Best.”

Residents were invited to pop in, browse the rails, try on outfits, and even head to the “checkout.” To make the experience feel even more authentic, we created our own currency, allowing residents to “pay” for their chosen items.

Our ladies in particular were in their element, with some returning for a second visit in the same day! It was lovely to see them holding outfits up and asking, “What do you think of this on me?” 👗

For many of us, a trip to the shops to pick out something new is something we can easily take for granted. Creating this in-house shopping experience allowed residents, including those living with dementia, to enjoy a familiar and meaningful activity in a safe and supportive environment.

Moments like these help bring a sense of everyday normality, independence, and self esteem, while giving residents the chance to treat themselves and add new additions to their wardobe. 💜

This Sunday is Mother’s Day and we have lots of lovely activities planned throughout the week. Loved ones are very welcome to join residents and spend time together. On Thursday we will be hosting a very special afternoon tea that visitors can enjoy with their loved ones, and on Friday we have a Mother’s Day party featuring a fantastic Elvis tribute act. Over the weekend there will also be plenty of activities for residents and their loved ones to enjoy together. 🌸

For those who are not celebrating Mother’s Day, we also have lots of other activities taking place this week including Rise sports therapy, our shopping experience, and music therapy, so there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Today our gents on Bredbury spent time in the sensory room as part of this week’s “Out of Space” theme for British Space Week, which celebrates the UK’s achievements and discoveries in space!

They loved the calming red lighting and watching the stars and moon light up the room. There was even some shadow puppet fun going on… which may or may not happen in space! 😄

This afternoon was a focus on 1:1 wellbeing sessions, including trips to the salon, musical sessions, sensory time and more. A lovely, relaxing and meaningul day for many residents!

Yesterday was World Book Day, and to celebrate we encouraged our team and residents to spend time reading together and sharing conversations through books.

We had some very meaningful engagement throughout the day. One gentleman opened a book and pointed to a picture of a yacht. He shared that he had owned a yacht had always dreamed of living somewhere beautiful on his boat. It was a dream of his that we hadn’t known about before, and it was wonderful to learn this while reading a book about yachts together.

Another gentleman was offered a new book but kindly declined, saying, “I’m okay, I’m reading my Bible all the way through.” He was referring to the new Bible that had been donated to him by St Chad’s Church last week, which was heartwarming to hear.

Our Wellbeing Lead also ensured that nobody missed out on the travelling library by visiting residents in all rooms, giving everyone the opportunity to choose a book and take part in the day.

It was lovely to see so many team members, especially on our Bramhall household, taking the time to sit with residents, read together, and share these special moments.

Yesterday we had a lovely visit from Claire from Musical Moments on our Bramhall Household. Claire led a wonderful interactive sensory hour which included a variety of songs and engaging activities for everyone to enjoy.

Residents had great fun catching bubbles, dancing with scarves, joining in with armchair movements, tapping tambourines, shaking maracas and singing along. We also had the pleasure of listening to Elvis, beautifully played by Claire on her cello! If you listen closely to the clip uploaded, you can hear one of our residents speaking about how lovely and deep the sound is.

Residents on our D+ Household were welcome to come and go as they pleased during the session. We were especially delighted to see a handful of our gentlemen, who usually prefer to be on the go, fully immersed in the session and engaged throughout.

Thank you, Claire! We’re already looking forward to your next visit. 😊

Every Thursday, our wonderful Music Therapist Lynsey visits and brings a fantastic variety of instruments along with her. Our residents – especially on Bredbury household – absolutely love exploring the different sounds and quickly become completely immersed in the music.

Recently, one of our gentlemen on Bredbury was so engrossed in playing the xylophone that when it was time for Lynsey to pack up, he became quite upset and said, “I just need two weeks with it – I could master this!” 💙

Hearing this inspired us to make music even more accessible for our residents. We decided it would be both beneficial and meaningful to purchase our own selection of instruments for everyone to enjoy at any time. Since then, they’ve become a much-loved part of our household-led activities on Bredbury.

On Friday, one of our gentlemen on Marple was feeling a little unsettled and unsure how he wanted to spend his time. Our Wellbeing Lead, Kirsty, knowing how much he enjoys choir on Thursdays, thought the xylophone might capture his interest ,and it certainly did! He was fully immersed for 35 minutes, completely focused on creating music and exploring different sounds. His restlessness disappeared as he became absorbed in the activity, later telling us, “It’s an absolutely beautiful sound.”
