We had such a lovely church service this afternoon, thanks to the wonderful volunteers from St Chad’s Church of England in Romiley. It was held on our general nursing / Romiley household, and it really was one of those feel-good afternoons!

Residents were so engaged joining in loudly and clearly with the Lord’s Prayer, chatting with the volunteers, and really soaking up the whole service. One resident was absolutely glowing with pride after singing along to the hymns from memory. She kept saying, “Did you hear my singing?” it was so sweet and heartwarming.

And after the story of Samuel was read, two residents spoke up and said, “That was really nice!” which just says it all, really.

Huge thank you to St Chad’s for your warmth, kindness, and the effort you put into every visit. It really means a lot to us and our residents 💛

We had a brilliant Halloween-themed art therapy session yesterday afternoon with the lovely Jane from Creative Mojo. As always, it was a fab mix of creativity and a good natter.

This time, we worked on a pumpkin candy-themed piece and it turned out amazing! The residents were so proud of what they created. One of our residents even hand-painted the giant pumpkin completely on their own, such talent and concentration!

Another resident decided to gift his artwork to one of his grandchildren as a little keepsake from Grandad, such a sweet moment. 🥰

It’s always lovely to see everyone getting stuck in, having fun, and showing off their artistic flair. Roll on the next session! 🎨✨

One of our lovely residents in the general nursing household has been feeling a little under the weather and low in spirits over the past few weeks. Yesterday, our wonderful Wellbeing Coordinator, Rachel, popped in for a check-in, a daily part of the personalised support our wellbeing team offers to residents who might be in need of a little company and a gentle lift.

During their chat, the resident mentioned that she had missed out on our recent pumpkin painting activity while she was in hospital. When Rachel asked what might help brighten her day, she simply said, “Some painting.”

Without missing a beat, Rachel brought the activity to her, recreating last week’s pumpkin painting session as a relaxed 1:1 experience. The result? Laughter, connection, and a truly lovely afternoon. It was clear that the simple act of being creative together, in a quiet and focused way, really lifted her mood.

Sometimes, that dedicated one-to-one time, a bit of gentle conversation, and something purposeful to do can be the best kind of therapy. We are so proud of this resident for saying what she needed and for opening herself up to taking part in something she once loved, even when it’s not always easy, and we sometimes just want to stay in bed!

There’s a gentle lesson here for all of us.

A huge thank you to everyone who has kindly donated newspapers and magazines for our residents here at Cherry Tree! Thanks to your generosity, our newspaper round this morning managed to stretch across the entire home - that’s all four of our large households!

Some of our lovely visitors have also been bringing in papers and magazines after their relatives at home have finished with them. Even though they’re second-hand, they’re still within a great timeframe of 3–5 days, which means our residents can stay happily up to date with current affairs and enjoy a good variety of reading material.

A few of our gentlemen who are no longer able to read the paper themselves had a lovely 1:1 session with our Wellbeing Lead, who read the news aloud and sparked some thoughtful conversation about politics and world events, an intelligent and engaging chat that they really appreciated this morning.

Small acts of kindness like this truly make a big difference. Thank you again for your continued support! 💛

Here’s a look at our planner for next week!

We’re starting off on Monday with our weekly art therapy session to inspire creativity and relaxation. On Tuesday, we welcome back St. Chad’s Church for our monthly church service. Later in the week, Romiley Household will be getting into the spooky spirit with their Halloween party, featuring a fantastic live performance by singer Elizabeth Grace. Then on Saturday, we’re excited to host our Halloween Special Visitors' Afternoon, where residents and their loved ones can enjoy a live performance by the wonderfully talented Anthony Lye on keyboard, followed by some festive pumpkin decorating. It’s shaping up to be a fun and heartwarming week for everyone!

Some snaps from a lovely 1:1 session this afternoon with our fabulous resident on Romiley household and our wellbeing lead, Kirsty.

This resident is a real fashionista, she used to design her own clothes back in the day, and even created her own children’s clothing too! Her love for fashion and design has never faded, and she always enjoys getting involved in anything creative, especially arts and crafts.

With it being spooky season, Kirsty thought it would be fun for the two of them to design a Halloween-themed handbag together, and she was all for it! As soon as Kirsty asked, she lit up and said, “Oh yes, I would love to!”

She put so much care into her design and was so proud of her finished spooky handbag… and honestly, so are we! 👜🎃 She even tried it on afterwards with the biggest smile on her face.

It’s a lovely reminder that person-centred activities don’t always have to be big or spectacular. Sometimes, it’s the small, meaningful things, things that resonate with a person’s interests and history, that have the greatest impact. 💛

We had another lovely day of music therapy across the home today, led by our brilliant music therapist, Lynsey.

She started the morning over in our general nursing household, Romiley, doing her usual 1:1 sessions and, as always, brought along her magical bag of instruments. One of our residents there, who prefers to stay in her room, sees Lynsey every Thursday. When our wellbeing lead Kirsty popped in for a chat this morning and mentioned Lynsey was in, the resident smiled and said, “Yes, she comes every Thursday, I’ve been expecting her, I’ve been looking forward to it.” Honestly, that’s music to all our ears. 💛

Lynsey then moved over to our dementia households, Bramhall and Bredbury, for a mix of 1:1 and group sessions. The group in Bramhall had an especially brilliant session today. We’ve got three residents who’ve been joining in since the very beginning, and today they were completely immersed, tapping along on tambourines and drums, fully in the moment, really responding to the rhythm and beat of the music.

So special to see the joy and connection that music brings. 🥁💫
