Yesterday was a day of movement and fun!

In the morning, our Wellbeing Lead led armchair exercises with a variety of ball games on Romiley and Maple households.

In the afternoon, our Bredbury and Bramhall households were visited by Louise from Rise Sports for their sports therapy session. It was another great session, with Louise bringing along a variety of sports equipment, our residents especially loved the giant beach ball! 🏐

A great day full of movement enjoyment for everyone involved 💙

Yesterday we enjoyed our weekly art therapy session led by Jane, artist from Creative Mojo 💛

It was a particularly special session as we were also celebrating one of our residents’ birthdays, and she’s one of our regular art therapy attendees too. During the session we played her favourite songs, and she treated us all to a confident and wonderful rendition of “My Way” by Frank Sinatra, earning a huge round of applause from everyone in the room 👏🎶

Our birthday lady was treated with not one but two birthday cakes, one kindly brought in by her family and one freshly made by our in-house kitchen. We thought it would be a lovely idea for our art group to sing Happy Birthday together and share one of the cakes during art therapy with Jane and the group. It was such a nice addition to the session and everyone really enjoyed getting involved with the singing Happy Birthday (and eating the cake!)

This week’s art theme was also extra special, as it followed Activity Professionals Week last week. Jane and our residents wanted to take the time to highlight and celebrate the fantastic work of our Activities and Wellbeing team here in the home.

Thank you, Jane, for another wonderful art therapy session!

Today is Burns Night 🥁

Burns Night is a Scottish tradition held each year to celebrate the life and poetry of Robert Burns, one of Scotland’s most loved poets and, of course, traditional food like haggis!

Our in-house kitchen and wellbeing team teamed up today to give residents the chance to taste-test haggis and learn a little more about the tradition. Haggis, poems, a few fun chat prompts, and plenty of conversation were delivered to each household, and it was a joy to see so many residents getting involved.

We saw lots of first-time haggis tasters, some who decided it wasn’t for them, and quite a few who said they’d happily have it again… but with tatties next time! 🥔😄

A big thank you to Bradbury’s Chap, Fi, for reading the poem aloud for residents. It’s safe to say the haggis itself was hit and miss but we were so happy to see so many residents give it a go and enjoy being part of the tradition.

This evening, residents will round Burns Night off with bagpipes and relax with a cold beer!

Cherry Tree Choir, official launch! 🎶

Thursday marked the official launch of our weekly Cherry Tree Choir, led by our wonderful music therapist, Lynsey. Residents joined in with many well-known sounds and songs and were seriously impressive, confidently singing together and recalling lyrics without needing to look at the sheet.

All residents, staff, family members, and visitors are very welcome to join in. The choir takes place every Thursday at 3:00 pm, held at Marple. We’d love to see you there! 🎵💙 Thank you Lynsey, for another fantastic music therapy day!

We wanted to share a small example of what our wellbeing 1:1 sessions can look like, as you may sometimes see these listed on our planner. Here are a few snaps from a recent 1:1 session with a gentleman living on our D+ household.

For some residents, a meaningful 1:1 may involve sitting together for 30–60 minutes focused on one activity they enjoy. For others, it may be an hour spent doing several different things. Our approach is always person-centred, we meet each resident where they are and respond to how they are feeling on the day.

During this particular session, our gentleman spent time chatting about his family, proudly sharing photographs and talking about the love he has for them. He also enjoyed putting together his new bird feeder and choosing the best position outside his window so he could watch the birds. The session also included a little bit of painting.

Sometimes, the most meaningful 1:1s are simply about going at the resident’s pace, following their interests, and spending unrushed time together socially. These moments allow the focus to be entirely on the individual, supporting their wellbeing, identity, and emotional connection.💙

Yesterday, St Chad’s Church in Romiley visited Cherry Tree House for their monthly service, and it was truly wonderful. The service was centred around unconditional positive regard (love), and it was heartwarming to see so many residents fully engaged throughout.

One lady was repeating and paraphrasing verses from the passages read aloud, nodding along as she listened, while many residents joined in so confidently with the hymns.

During the prayers, St Chad’s prayed for everyone at Cherry Tree House, our residents, their families, and our team, which was a deeply touching moment for all present.

One of our residents, who was once a preacher himself, summed it up perfectly when he said, “I think that went really well,” before thanking the other residents for attending. That truly says it all.

At the end of the service, St Chad’s live pianist played the familiar song “Peace to You” while blessing each resident and stopping for a short chat with everyone. This is a part of the service our residents especially enjoy.

During the service, one lady asked if we could sing “You Are My Sunshine” next time. Later, one of the St Chad’s team members stopped to sing it with her individually. She absolutely loved it and afterwards said to our team, with a big proud smile, “I just sang a song.”

St Chad’s Church have also kindly offered to donate large-print Bibles for our residents, which we are very grateful for.

Thank you, St Chad’s Church, for everything you do for our residents.

Each Thursday, our wonderful Music Therapist, Lynsey, travels around the whole home from morning until late afternoon, offering both 1:1 music therapy sessions and group music therapy for our residents.

From this Thursday (22nd), we are delighted to announce the launch of the Cherry Tree House Choir, led by Lynsey.
🕒 Every Thursday at 3:00 PM
📍 Marple
👥 Open to all residents, staff, relatives, and visitors – everyone is welcome!

Last week, Lynsey held a small choir rehearsal ahead of the official launch to test the waters, and what a fabulous rehearsal it was!

One particularly special moment came from one of our ladies on the General Nursing household. Some of you may remember a post last month when she attended a Christmas choir, the first activity she had joined in for five years, which was a huge milestone.

On Thursday, with Lynsey’s gentle encouragement, she joined us once again and even asked if she could attend the choir regularly. She didn’t stop there – she requested a few songs too, including “an upbeat Elvis one!”

We are so hopeful this will become a regular activity for her. This resident is one of Lynsey’s regular 1:1 music therapy sessions, which she receives weekly, and it is wonderful to see how this is building her confidence to attend musical groups outside of her room.

She has even said she plans to attend our Valentine’s Party featuring an Elvis tribute!

A huge thank you to Lynsey for the incredible work she does. Moments like these truly show the power of music therapy and the difference it makes. 🌟

Last week we had one of those moments that reminds us why 1:1 wellbeing is so important.

One of our gentlemen, who used to be a teacher and a minister, asked Kirsty, our Wellbeing Lead, if we had a Bible. He explained that his own was very well worn. After seeing how well a recent 1:1 session had gone for another resident, we thought it would be lovely for him to visit the library. As he lives on a different floor, it was also a nice change of scenery and a chance to visit another household.

When offered the idea, he absolutely lit up and said, “Yes, I would love to.”
A lady nearby overheard and called out, “Can I come too?” What started as a 1:1 soon turned into a small group as a few more residents heard we were heading to the library and wanted to join, the more the merrier!

Once in the library, our gent chose a couple of books and then, while looking out of the window, began to recite from memory:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

Together, he and Kirsty found the full passage (John 1:1), and he was also able to choose a new Bible for himself. He did incredibly well, reading with confidence and holding everyone’s attention, our other residents were listening and smiling intently. He is, of course, a minister!

What made the moment even more special was that his wife arrived to visit just in time to hear him read the full passage aloud to our little group.

Afterwards, we had a lovely, meaningful conversation. Our gent spoke about how he has always wanted to visit a specific cave in Greece where John laid his head, and he and his wife chatted together about the many Greek islands they have visited over the years.

It was a great day for him, he was engaged, connected, and fully in the moment. These are the moments that really stay with us 💫

Our first social club of the year returned yesterday, held at Marple Household, and what a fantastic afternoon it was! The amazing Rebecca Done was our guest star, performing classic songs from across the decades. Rebecca always brings her charming personality along with her incredible vocals, which truly lift the energy in the room and get everyone moving and singing along.

Cold beers were served throughout as usual, and they’re always a firm favourite. It was wonderful to see so many residents dancing together, encouraging one another, and socialising. Some genuinely meaningful connections were made across the group yesterday afternoon, and that’s exactly what our social clubs are all about, connecting, moving, and having fun with great company and great music.

A huge thank you to Rebecca Done for another fabulous performance! And a big thank you to everyone who helped make sure our residents had such a fabulous afternoon, bringing the energy, getting up to dance!
