Now for the Manager's pick! đź“–

“Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks” is a heart-breaking tale based on true events that happened here in Eyam in 1666.💔

I first read it 25 years ago and was fascinated by the story of how the villagers lived through and survived the plague, but I never thought I would end up working here, sharing that story with you, our visitors!

It holds even more meaning now after the 2020 pandemic, as we went through some of the same things that the Eyam villagers did (social distancing, family groups)." Emma McBeath, Museum Manager.

Head to our website to order your copy and learn more about the history of the village.

Thank you to everyone who came along to our February meet ups to discuss The Boy From the Sea and / or joined us for our event with Garrett Carr and as always it was great to hear what you all had to say!

Our next book club choice, as voted for by you, is the Women’s Prize for Fiction shortlisted Fundamentally by Nussaibah Younis - a wildly funny and razor-sharp exploration of love, family, religion and the decisions we make in pursuit of belonging. We hosted Nussaibah’s very first event for Fundamentally in our Stockport shop last year and loved listening to her discuss the book - we hope you love it too and can’t wait to hear your thoughts.

Wednesday 1st April - Stockport
