I urge all midwives to share this advice far and wide. The upset and fear a comment from a little man across the pond can make is dangerous. Our women and birthing people need to know they are safe, autism is not a disease that needs irradicating but a neurodivergence to be accepted. And it is not the woman’s fault !!!!

Taking paracetamol during pregnancy remains safe and there is no evidence it causes autism in children.

RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY

Have you experienced an assisted (ie forceps or vacuum) birth?

If so, we are working with a team of researchers who are interested in your views on improving assisted birth outcomes. It would involve attending a meeting this week (online) with a view to be involved in future as part of a public-patient involvement (PPI) group informing the project.

If you’re interested, please email Chloe at chloe@birthtraumaassociation.org and she will send you some more details.

For families who received care at Swansea. Bay x

In light of the Llais report into Swansea maternity services published recently, which shared many distressing stories from families affected, the need for peer support has never been more urgent. The Swansea Bay Maternity Group invites families affected to join their online support meeting on 27 May. This follows on from a 2023 review into serious concerns about local maternity services.

The session will provide a safe, supportive space for families who want to share their stories or hear from others. You will also have the opportunity to hear from Leigh Day’s midwife and legal experts, who can provide guidance and insights. You will have the opportunity to raise questions either at the event or thereafter to our experts.

Concerns have been raised about maternity care in Swansea, and a review was commissioned in 2023. The review is essential to improve maternity services but has also identified a need for support for families, some of which feel ignored. A support group has been formed, which will be patient/family led and provide access to expert advice and support.

Join our public meeting.
Date: 12 February
Time: 4-6pm
Location: Village Hotel Swansea

Come along to share experiences, gain support from others, and for the chance to ask questions and gain insights from Leigh Day's experts, including a registered midwife and a medical negligence solicitor.

All are welcome to attend or you can register your interest by emailing swanseamaternitysupptgroup@gmail.com
