Just when we thought we'd had a great meeting - the next one is even better!! Today we made lunch for SEVENTY FIVE members/volunteers and the Main Hall at Poynton Civic Centre was definitely buzzing. Our House Band got everyone singing and dancing then Julia came in with a 70's disco theme - say no more, that's the music most of our members relate to - and they definitely 'rocked' some moves (if that's today's correct terminology) Take a look at the photos.

Many thanks to Julia Robertson (Fitness for Everyone) for suggesting a "Cow Boy/Girl" theme for our last meeting. And special thanks to all our members and volunteers who joined in the fun. We had a truly amazing 4 hours of fun; I don't think the two new couples knew what was going on - but they've promised to come back next meeting on 1st October.

This sounds like a wonderful event (if you don't mind being called an "older person"). Although it's free, don't forget...

TIME To TALK is today, 1.30-3.00pm at Poynton Civic Centre. If you have any Dementia or Memory Loss queries just drop in and have a chat with a professional adviser.
You could also pop into Poynton Golden Memories Group which will be in the Main Hall, 11am-3pm. We are a social support group for those living with Dementia and their spouse/carer. £10.00 per couple which includes entertainment, activities and lunch (soup, bread and cake😋).

Hopefully these will be available nationwide soon.

Hopefully these will be available nationwide soon.

These new seatbelt covers are being offered by Devon and Cornwall Police.

They are being offered free, to those with additional needs, to help make communication easier after incidents including road traffic collisions.

The seatbelt covers are a new initiative and give help to people with a speech, language or communication need which may create a barrier.

The seatbelt cover can be personalised and wrapped around an adult seatbelt using Velcro. A card inside the seatbelt cover allows the user to add their name, age, address, medical conditions or other information about how they like to be communicated with.

In the event of an emergency a first responder (someone from the blue light services) or a member of the public can look inside the seatbelt cover to get more information and understand how they can respond appropriately to a person’s individual needs to help make them feel safe again.

There is also an option for the seat belt wearer to use the information card to point to a picture showing which part of the body they have injured.

A little bit late, but just reporting on last week's Poynton Golden Memories' meeting. And, WOW, yet another fantastic get together where those with Dementia/Alzheimer's could relax and enjoy recognising familiar faces and surroundings whilst their spouse/relative/carer enjoyed catch-up with their peers. I

It's lovely to know that many members also meet at Weatherspoons, The Farmers, Dementia Disco's and other venues where they can have some 'normality' to looking after their loved one with Dementia along with enjoying an evening out.

At next week's meeting on 17th September there will also be a "Time to Talk" session, 1:30-3:00pm along the corridor. If you have a niggly query on any Dementia related issue - health, financial, well-being - you're welcome to 'drop in'.

An amazing PGM meeting last week, 20th August, when we helped celebrate our oldest member's 100th Birthday. Even King Charles (& his late mother, Queen Elizabeth) joined in the celebrations. Yvonne's daughters brought balloons, banners and - more importantly - delicious birthday cake and plenty of fizz to toast the 'Birthday Girl'. After lunch Poynton's local Ukelele band 'Parkulele' entertained with songs we could sing along to.

I might be blowing PGM's own trumpet, but I'm sure all our members would agree that joining a social group for those living with Dementia/Alzheimer's definitely helps those caring 24/7/356 with friendship and support whatever time of day or night.

If anyone would like to start a similar group wherever they are in U.K. we would be happy to help - see our website poyntongoldenmenories.org.uk.
